Abstract:We consider a purely algebraic result. Then given a circle or cyclic group of prime order action on a manifold, we will use it to estimate the lower bound of the number of fixed points. Abstract:Based on a fixed point theorem by Shi and Ye for amenable group actions on dendrites, we show that if X is a Peano continuum having the property that for any there are only finitely many circles in X with diameters , then there exists no expansive polycyclic group action on X . As a corollary, we obtain that local dendrites and Peano continua containing no -curves admit no expansive polycyclic group actions.

Abstract:Let $A$ be an annulus in the plane $\mathbb R^2$ and $g:A\rightarrow A$ be a boundary components preserving homeomorphism which is distal and has no periodic points. Then there is a continuous decomposition of $A$ into $g$-invariant circles such that all the restrictions of $g$ on them share a common irrational rotation number and all these circles are linearly ordered by the inclusion relation on the sets of bounded components of their complements in $\mathbb R^2$.

Abstract:In this work we consider foliations of compact manifolds whose holonomy pseudo-group is expansive, and analyze their number of compact leaves. Our main result is that in the codimension-one case this number is at most finite, and we give examples of such foliations having one compact leaf.

Abstract:We study a system of intervals $I_1,\ldots,I_k$ on the real line and a continuous map $f$ with $f(I_1 \cup I_2 \cup \ldots \cup I_k)\supseteq I_1 \cup I_2 \cup \ldots \cup I_k$. It's conjectured that there exists a periodic point of period $\le k$ in $I_1\cup \ldots \cup I_k$. In this paper, we prove the conjecture by a discretization method and reduce the initial problem to an interesting combinatorial lemma concerning cyclic permutations. We also obtain a non-concentration property of periodic points of small periods in intervals.

Abstract:In this paper, we study discrete spectrum of invariant measures for countable discrete amenable group actions. We show that an invariant measure has discrete spectrum if and only if it has bounded measure complexity. We also prove that, discrete spectrum can be characterized via measure-theoretic complexity using names of a partition and the Hamming distance, and it turns out to be equivalent to both mean equicontinuity and equicontinuity in the mean.

Effective equidistribution of orbits under semisimple groups on congruence quotients

Abstract:We prove an effective equidistribution result for periodic orbits of semisimple groups on congruence quotients of an ambient semisimple group. This extends previous work of Einsiedler, Margulis and Venkatesh. The main new feature is that we allow for periodic orbits of semisimple groups with nontrivial centralizer in the ambient group. Our proof uses crucially an effective closing lemma from work with Lindenstrauss, Margulis, Mohammadi, and Shah.

Abstract:A subgroup of is Möbius-like if every element is conjugate to an element of . In general, a Möbius-like subgroup of is not necessarily (semi-)conjugate to a subgroup of , as discovered by Kovačević (Trans Am Math Soc 351:4823–4835, 1999). Here we determine simple dynamical criteria for the existence of such a (semi-)conjugacy. We show that Möbius-like subgroups of which are elementary (namely, preserving a Borel probability measure), are semi-conjugate to subgroups of . On the other hand, we provide an example of elementary subgroup of satisfying that every non-trivial element fixes at most 2 points, which is not isomorphic to any subgroup of . Finally, we show that non-elementary, non-locally discrete subgroups acting with at most N fixed points are conjugate to a dense subgroup of some finite central extension of .

Abstract:Let $g\colon L\rightarrow L$ be an atoroidal, endperiodic map on an infinite type surface $L$ with no boundary and finitely many ends, each of which is accumulated by genus. By work of Landry, Minsky, and Taylor, $g$ is isotopic to a spun pseudo-Anosov map $f$. We show that spun pseudo-Anosov maps minimize the number of periodic points of period $n$ for sufficiently high $n$ over all maps in their homotopy class, strengthening a theorem of Landry, Minsky, and Taylor. We also show that the same theorem holds for atoroidal Handel--Miller maps when you only consider periodic points that lie in the intersection of the stable and unstable laminations.

Abstract:The weak mean equicontinuity for a countable discrete amenable group G acting continuously on a compact metrizable space X is studied. It is shown that weak mean equicontinuity, continuously pointwise ergodicity and uniformity are coincided. Moreover, we prove that ( X , G ) is mean equicontinuous if and only if the product system is weak mean equicontinuous.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a compact metric space and $G$ a finitely generated group. Suppose $\phi:G\rightarrow {\rm Homeo}(X)$ is a continuous action. We show that if $\phi$ is both distal and expansive, then $X$ must be finite. A counterexample is constructed to show the necessity of finite generation condition on $G$. This is also a supplement to a result due to Auslander-Glasner-Weiss which says that every distal action by a finitely generated group on a zero-dimensional compactum is equicontinuous.
Periodicity of tiles in finite Abelian groups

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce the concept of periodic tiling (PT) property for finite abelian groups. A group has the PT property if any non-periodic set that tiles the group by translation has a periodic tiling complement. This property extends the scope beyond groups with the Hajós property. We classify all cyclic groups having the PT property. Additionally, we construct groups that possess the PT property but without the Hajós property. As byproduct, we identify new groups for which the implication ``Tile $\Longrightarrow$ Spectral" holds. For elementary $p$-groups having the PT property, we show that a tile must be a complete set of representatives of the cosets of some subgroup, by analyzing the structure of tiles.

Abstract:The fixed-point spectrum of a locally compact second countable group G on lp is defined to be the set of real numbers p such that every action by affine isometries of G on lp admits a fixed-point. We show that this set is either empty, or is equal to a set of one of the following forms : [1,\pc[, [1,\pc[\{2} for some \pc<\infty or \pc=\infty, or [1,\pc], [1,\pc]\{2} for some pc<infty. This answers a question closely related to a conjecture of C. Drutu which asserts that the fixed-point spectrum is connected for isometric actions on Lp(0,1). We also study the topological properties of the fixed-point spectrum on Lp(X,\mu) for general measure spaces (X,\mu), and show partial results toward the conjecture for actions on Lp(0,1). In particular, we prove that the spectrum F_{L^{\infty}(X,\mu)(G,\pi) of actions with linear part \pi is either empty, or an interval of the form [1,\pc] or [1,\infty[, whenever \pi is an orthogonal representation associated to a measure-preserving ergodic action on a finite measure space (X,\mu).
