Abstract:The speed of permanent magnet synchronous motor was acquired using reduced-order Luenberger observer constructed from stator q-axis current and speed equation. The observer is simple and achieves fast convergence with the eigenvalues setting. The system controller was designed using direct feedback linearization control. The system features fast speed tracking and torque response. Matlab simulation result proves the efficiency and feasibility of the system design.

Abstract:The relationship between the rotation speed of an ultrasonic motor (USM) and its driving frequencybehaves nonlinearly with time-variability, and which limits its practical applications. In this paper, we show theresearch on the speed control techniques of a traveling-wave-type ultrasonic motor. At first, the relation betweenthe rotation speed and feedback voltage from a sensor, which is a segment (isolated electrode) of the piezoelectricceramic element bonded on the stator of the USM, is derived. And a speed controller for the USM is designed andmanufactured. Secondly, aiming at losing balance between the CW and CCW rotation speed, a balancing compen-sation algorithm is put forward, and which is implemented with hardware. The experimental results show that af-ter putting the controller and balancing compensation controller into the driver, the speed of the USM possesses oflinearity and time-invariability with a command voltage, and the CW rotation speed of the USM have a better ac-cordance with the CCW.

Abstract:The resonant frequency of the ultrasonic motor drifts during motor operating as the temperature rising.The frequency drifting has a great effect on the output performance of the motor,such as speed,efficiency.So the function of frequency tracking is needed in the driving circuit.The relation between input voltage and frequency was analyzed using the equivalent circuit,then the effect of the temperature and load on dynamic impedance,resonant frequency,driving voltage and the speed were analyzed by experiment respectively.A new frequency tracking control strategy with driving voltage was advanced based on the control of input voltage.At last,a 60mm diameter traveling-wave ultrasonic motor was tested in this research,The speed fluctuation was tested below 5.1%,6.3%,6.4%,the efficiency of the motor increases about 0.88%,5.3% and 3.1% under no-load,light-load and heavy-loads respectively.

Abstract:Phase difference between voltage and current is called impedance phase characteristic which reflects stator's resonance characteristic of ultrasonic motor(USM).Closed loop control of USM is realized in using phase-locked loop through gathering phase difference signal between voltage and current.Using this method there's no need to set isolated pole.By experiments it is proved that the infection of temperature change to USM can be compensated by tracking phase difference,which makes motor run on initial setting point.When setting value is changed,the circuit can follow up phase diversification,making motor run steadily.

Abstract:Ultrasonic motor is difierent from traditi- onal electromagnetic motor and it is driven bv friction force.It is characterized by rapidly dynamic perfor- mance and high resolution.Based on its character,this paper introduces a precise position control metho- d.Firstly,the paper points out the essentials of high resolution and stepping characteristic of ultrasonic motor in theory and experiment.Next,based on this characteristic of the motor,the paper discusses high precise position control strategy named stepping- position control method and the factors that influence position precision are analyzed.By the stepping- position control method,high precise position control (0.010°) have been realized by the experimental hybrid transducer type ultrasonic motor,which demonstrates its potential for driving high precise mechanical system,such as MEMS.

Abstract:As running,the resonant frequency of ultrasonic motor will drift,which then leads to the decrease of speed and the decline of efficiency.For realizing the function of frequency tracking in driving power,the fundamental of frequency tracking based on keeping voltage-current phase difference unchanged was expounded,and the frequency tracking system for ultrasoinc motor was realized with phase-locked loop(PLL) CD4046.In conclusion,experimental results prove that the method is feasible.

Abstract:An introduction was made on the computer control system for the piezoelectric traveling-wave motor with emphasis put on introducing its control principle, and the circuit for control. The experimental results show that under the control of our software, the piezoelectric traveling-wave motor can be operated with any step program of angle/time, in which, the step-angle can vary from 0.15��/step to any value, and a high resolution of angle is realized with far low-cost. Besides, this computer control system also has the function of testing that makes it possible to measure the dynamic operation curves of the ultrasonic motor, in this way, the system also provides a powerful tool for researching or improving the motor performances.

Abstract:Fast steering mirrors (FSM) driven by Piezoelectric transducer (PZT) are widely used in various precision stable tracking systems. Aiming to counteract the hysteresis and non-linear interference in PZT, this work applies a radial basis function (RBF) neural network to approximate its nonlinearity. Adaptive backstepping sliding mode (ABSM) controller combinewith a sliding mode control method and backstepping control is designed. Combining the characteristics of PZT and voice coil motors (VCM), the FSM driven by VCM is designed as the power sub-system to ensure that the large-angle deflection of the FSM can match a wider field of view. The FSM driven by PZT is designed as a correction sub-system, which can adjust the system error within a small range. Finally, the power sub-system and the correction sub-system are combined into a two-level precision tracking system. The simulation results show that the maximum steady-state error of the system is about 15 μrad, and the root mean square error is about 10 μrad. Compared with the traditional PI controller, the error is reduced by about 75%, the response speed is up to 10 ms, and the output is smooth without some serious viberation.

Abstract:The trajectory control is an important link of output performance for a 2-DOF spherical traveling wave type ultrasonic motor.Here,the trajectory tracking control was presented with a 2-DOF spherical ultrasonic motor with 3 stators.Firstly,the minimum norm of the circumferential angular velocity of the traveling wave peak point on the surface of the stators was taken as an optimizing target for the motor.Then combination of a single stator's speed adjusting and the vector principle of a motor's operating was taken as the model of the motor's operating mode.In order to measure the attitude of the spherical rotor,a method to detect its position based on the operating principle of a mouse was adopted. Then,the phase-difference of the driving voltage of each stator was calculated with the moror's operating mode.With a neuron PID algorithm,the closeloop trajectory tracking control of the motor was realized.The results showed that in every direction the error is controlled within 2 pulses.The study results provided a reference for design and performance improvement of multi-DOF spherical traveling wave ultrasonic motors.
An Improved Frequency Tracking Strategy in Ultrasonic Transducer

Abstract:The realization of automatic frequency tracking is of great significance in ultrasonic transducer due to its wide application area in nowadays industrial manufacture. However, excessive overshoot current, serious overheating and long response time remain the urgent issue. To tackle these existing ultrasonic frequency tracking problem, this paper proposes a hybrid technique that integrates fuzzy control theory with PID control on the system. The technique involves coarse adjustment by fuzzy control and accurate adjustment by PID. Then, direct digital synthesizer (DDS) is used to generate required PWM wave with high accuracy. Initial driving frequency of the system and its corresponding phase difference of the feedback voltage and current can both be acquired during sweep frequency test before the tracking process, which corresponds to the parallel resonant point where the current is the minimum. This phase difference is also regarded as the target tracking value. During the tracking process, fuzzy control will be adopted when phase difference value error between feedback value and target value is greater than 10%, or PID will be used. Current difference AI and change rate AI/Af are used as two input values while driving frequency is the output value in fuzzy control when coarse adjustment is needed. Incremental PID arithmetic is used when accurate adjustment is needed. The result shows that the technique can reduce overshoot current of the ultrasonic transducer by approximately 8%, shorten the time for achieving stabilization of the system by 12%. In conclusion, this novel hybrid technique can quickly and stably track the frequency of parallel resonant point of the ultrasonic transducer system, meanwhile keep the whole system operating more efficiency and stable.

Abstract:A measurement and control system based on personal computer(PC) is developed for ultrasonic motor.Speed of ultrasonic motor is unstable in long time running because of the change of piezoelectric ceramics characteristic.The problem is solved in this system.Fluctuation of motor speed could be controlled within 3 % based on proportional integral(PI) control algorithm.Experimental results also show that fuzzy plus PI controller is feasible for precise position control of ultrasonic motor in this system,and position precision could be implemented within 0.09°.

Abstract:The relationslup between the rotation speed of an ultrasonic motor and its driving frequency behaves nonlinear with time-variability. Furthermore the performances of the USM when rotating clock-wise (CW) and counter-clock-wise (CCW) are inconsistent. As a result, the practical applications of USM are limited. In this paper, we show the research on the speed control techniques of a traveling-wave-type ultrasonic motor, and aiming at losing balance between the CW and CCW rotation speed, a balancing compensation algorithm is put forward. The experimental results show that after putting the speed controller and balancing compensation controller together into the driver, the speed of the USM possesses of linearity and time-invariability with a command voltage, and the CW rotation speed of the USM have a better accordance, with the CCW.

Abstract:An operator representing the inverse dynamics of hysteretic effects inherent to piezoceramic actuators is used to enhance the tracking accuracy of a piezoceramic-driven positioning system when subject to dynamic reference input signals covering a wide frequency range. An open-loop tracking controller and a closed-loop tracking controller are developed based on the new inverse algorithm and are experimentally shown to achieve high-accuracy tracking control.

Abstract:The hysteresis characteristic of piezoelectric actuators is one of the major deficiencies in a wide variety of precise tracking positioning controls. In this paper, a novel mathematical model is proposed to describe hysteresis precisely and an open-loop tracking controller is implemented with the proposed model to compensate the hysteresis for tracking periodic sinusoidal inputs. Finally, some tracking control experiments based on a micro-positioning stage for the desired sinusoidal trajectory are performed according to the proposed method and the experimental results demonstrate that the positioning precision is noticeably improved in the open-loop operation compared to the conventional open-loop control without any compensation. In comparison to the regular PID closed-loop controller, the proposed feedforward control method has better tracking performance.

Abstract:There is a series of heating problems in running of the ultrasonic motor that will decrease the resonant frequency and affect the stability of its output.The fixed frequency was used in traditional method to drive the motor where the temperature rise was overlooked.To solve the problem,the speed control system of ultrasonic motor was designed based on temperature feedback on LabVIEW.A K-type thermocouple was used to measure the temperature,and the relationship between the temperature and the frequency was summarized.The motor frequency at work was adjusted according to the temperature.The stability of the output was maintained during the period of temperature rise.

Abstract:An integrated control strategy for piezo-actuated nanopositioning stages is proposed in this paper. The aim is to achieve high-speed and high-precision tracking control of nanopositioning stages. For this purpose, a direct inverse compensation method is firstly applied to eliminate the hysteresis nonlinearity without involving inverse model calculation. Then, an inside-the-loop input shaper is designed to suppress the vibration of the compensated system. A Smith predictor is introduced to prevent the potential closed-loop instability caused by the time delay of the inside-the-loop input shaper. Finally, a high-gain feedback controller is employed to handle the disturbances and modeling errors. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control method, comparative experiments are carried out on a piezoelectric actuated stage. The results show that the proposed control approach increases the tracking bandwidth of the stage from 22.6Hz to 510Hz.

Abstract:Focusing on the application demand of ultrasonic motors in the field of space laser communication, a position control method is proposed in this study. Unlike other existing localization methods, this method is based on beat traveling wave theory, which possesses a particular performance in ultrasonic motors. In order to make the speed predictably drop to zero, the frequency difference of the two-phase drive signals is changed during normal operation. This motor deceleration stage is used to establish the positioning scheme. According to this scheme, the finite element analysis with commercial software ADINA is utilized to study the positioning characteristics and support the feasibility, adding details to the scheme. An experimental setup that depends on a DDS signal generator is built to validate this method. The data proves that it can achieve effective average results of about 15 arc-sec under open-loop control at low speed and fluctuate within 0.5 mrad, which can meet the requirement for engineering. Compared to conventional position control methods, it has attractive features of short positioning time, noiseless operation and simple control. This method provides selectivity for engineering applications of ultrasonic motors.

Abstract:This paper presents the design and experimental implementation of an inversion-based feedforward controller to achieve accurate tracking and fast scanning for an atomic force microscopy (AFM). The proposed controller reduces the tracking error by inverting the vibration dynamics and the hysteresis of the piezoelectric tube scanner (PTS). The hysteresis is compensated by directly constructing an inverse Prandtl-Ishlinskii model, while the vibration dynamics is suppressed by a zero magnitude error tracking controller. A comparison of the experimental images using the proposed controller and a dc-gain open-loop controller is given. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed controller.

Abstract:Piezoelectric ultrasonic motor, a fractional horsepower motor, is different from conventional electromagnetic motor. It combines the features such as lightweight package, high driving torque at low speed, quick response, low consume, zero backlash, self-braking at zero power, no electromagnetic disturbance and noise, and high heat-stability in wicked environment. In this paper, we propose a new type of stepping piezoelectric micro-motor using wiggle vibration mode and three-dimensional contacts between the rotor and stator. Micro-vibration behavior and vibration mode shape of the prototype have been investigated using advanced POLYTEC PSV-300-F laser Doppler vibrometer. The piezoelectric micro-motor has potential applications for camera auto focus lenses, medical apparatus, micro-robots, micro-satellites, precise positioning, micro-machining, aerospace instruments, laser communication, etc. Here, using such two piezoelectric motors an improved manipulator with two degrees of freedom has been realized.
