Abstract:By using PDP (plasma display panel) characteristics of self-luminescence, thin structure, high brightness and uniform luminescence, a novel surface lamp-house based on PDP technology was developed to apply in a special space which needs thin illuminator. To overcome PDP'S shortage of low luminous ef- ficiency, many important modifications are accomplished in panel structure, phosphors material, working gas, manufacturing process and drive circuit. The improved surface lamp-house has parameters as follows.thickness less than 4 ram, luminance more than 350 cd/m2, color temperature 6500 K and luminous effi-ciency 4 lm/w. The study result of surface light source PDP will help to improve the photoelectric proper-ties of image PDP.

Abstract:A software platform was built to simulate the distribution of LED's light intensity. Starting with lighting mechanism of LED, we, used theory of geometry optics and physic optics to finish our work successfully, and at the same time, we did some testing as well. We simulated several common LEDs and compared results of the. simulation of different types. By doing so, some useful conclusions about the relationship between LED's valid illumination distance and radiation angle were found.

Abstract:A mercury-free flat fluorescent lamp with an arclike electrode is developed to improve luminance and luminous efficacy and to prevent discharge contraction. The influences of the rising time of a driving waveform and the gas mixture under different gas pressures on luminance and luminous efficacy are studied. The experimental results show that the luminance and luminous efficacy increase as the gas pressure and Xe content increase. The luminance of about 7500 cd/m(2) can be achieved at a pressure of 60 kPa with Ne-Xe (30%). The maximum luminous efficacy of the system, including the inverter, is about 23.7 lm/W at a pressure of 50 kPa with Ne-Xe (30%). Compared with the gas mixture of Ne-Xe (30%), when the gas mixture of Ne-Xe (32%)-He (8%) is used, the luminance and ignition voltage increase. In addition, the luminous efficacy for a steep rising edge of a waveform within 400 ns can be increased about 10% higher than that for a gradual rising edge above 800 ns.

Abstract:The luminescence characteristics of mercury-free flat fluorescent lamp (FFL) with arc-shape anodes utilizing dielectric barrier discharge were investigated by comparing its luminance uniformity with that of the conventional FFL with beeline-shape anodes and measuring the variation of its luminance and luminous efficacy with discharge gap, dielectric thickness, xenon concentration and total gas pressure of mixture gas. The experimental results show that the steady diffusive micro-discharge can be obtained at a high gas pressure even near to 1 atmosphere pressure when the narrow pulse-width voltage waveform is applied, and the luminance and luminous efficacy can both be improved with the increase of discharge gap, whereas the luminous efficacy rises and gradually reaches to a saturation value with the increase of dielectric thickness. Under the driving pulse with frequency of 65 kHz and peak voltage of 2.2 kV, the novel FFLs with a diagonal size of 12 inches demonstrate the luminance of over 6400 cd/m2, luminous efficacy of over 22 lm/w, and luminance uniformity of over 86%.

Abstract:Through analyzing the effects of ultra high pressure (UHP) mercury lamp's dimension and its distance from the detector on the measurement of light distribution curve, an automatic equipment based on computer interface technique and photoelectric conversion technique was constructed to obtain the exact light distribution curve of UHP lamps. Program time delay and software filtering were used to delete the interference of the drive current and the mechanical vibration, so the measuring precision was improved. The data measured by the equipment not only can comply with the requirement of illumination system simulation, but also can help the light source designer to ameliorate the UHP lamp's burner and electrode.

Research on the Dimming Characteristics of Short Arc Ultra-high Pressure Mercury Lamps for Projection Applications

Abstract:The voltage, current and power are measured for short arc ultra-high pressure mercury lamps (UHP) with rating power 250 W driven by 50 Hz square waveform power supply. It is found that the curve slope of voltage-current characteristics is positive in most of the power range, and negative around 170 W. The photometric, colorimetric and electric parameters are measured with an integrating sphere system couple with a spectrometer in UHP dimming experiments. The results show luminous flux increases with power linearly. The luminous efficacy and color rendering index (CRI) reduce with power reduction because of the decrease of spectral continuum. The mercury pressure are calculated with the full width at the half maximum (FWHM) of 546 nm spectral band, which is 6.2-11.0 nm according to the mercury pressure 15.3-25.8 MPa for UHP power 43-258 W.

Abstract:This paper introduces the key technologies of low wattage ceramic metal halide lamps(CMHs),which include sovling the matched-sealing of Nb and the ceramic capillary with Dy2O3-Al2O3-SiO2 frit system,controlling frit leakage and corrosion,solving the ignition problem with radioactive gas 85Kr filling in the arc tubes.In order to optimize the parameters of CMHs,some diagnostic methods were used,such as X-ray transmission,infrared imaging,X-ray tomography,and scanning electron microscope.The CMHs with power of 20,35,70 and 150W have been put into mass production,whose parameters are better than those in the national standard.The CMHs with 70W power and 3,000K color temperature have luminous efficacy 89 lm/W,color rendering 92,lumen maintenance 82% at 8,000h.

Abstract:Research and build a power system for driving xenon lamp fast discharge. In order to extend life and reduce the initial discharge inductance of xenon lamp, pulse strong pre-ignition technology was used to study discharge current characteristics of xenon lamp. It was obtained shortest rise time and half-width of the discharge current waveforms was respectively 1.09μs and 2.32μs.

Abstract:For many years the low pressure mercury lamps are widely used in general lighting and ultraviolet radiation. Because of its strong 254 nm ultraviolet and 185 nm vacuum ultraviolet radiation, it has played a very active role in environment, agriculture and medical fields. In environmental treatments, 254 nm radiation has been used for disinfecting the air and water, while the 185 nm radiation is applied to the degradation of organic matter. In this paper, the 185 nm radiation of high output low pressure mercury lamp, with 80 cm in length, was measured in a customized vacuum chamber based on Keitz method. The radiant characteristics of the lamp was discussed, indicating that the 185 nm radiant efficiency reached the maximum of 11% at the cold spot temperature 70 degrees C while it is negatively related to the discharge current.

Abstract:In order to study the methods to enhance the efficacy of electrodeless lamp,volt-ampere characteristics,illuminance and emission spectrum have been investigated in home-built electrodeless lamp experimental system with an electrodeless lamp in shape like QL 85 lamp.The results show that lamp current increases as lamp voltage increases in non-discharge,the current decreases first and then increases as the voltage increases in discharge.The illuminance of electrodeless lamp increases linearly with discharge power increasing,and it decreases linearly with power decreasing.The emission spectrum is different for different bulb and lighting time.The spectrum of Ar 811.5 nm,76.5 nm,750.4 nm and Hg 313.2 nm decrease with lighting time.While the intensity of Hg 407.8 nm increases with lighting time.

Abstract:Mercury free flat fluorescent lamp(FFL) has a cheerful prospect in many areas,such as backlight for LCD and lighting since it is environmental,long life and has a short response time.Traditionally,the driving power supply of FFL including two or more stage,in this paper,a switching power supply driving circuit with single stage,which can drive the FFL efficiently,was proposed and analyzed.Finally a circuit prototype was build and efficiency was compared with the traditional one;it shows the designed circuit can improve the luminous efficiency of FFL with higher converter efficiency and lower costs.

Abstract:As a kind of new electric light source,electrodeless discharge lamps(EDL) are based on high-frequency electromagnetic induction and non-polar gas discharge.Visible light is emitted as a result of Hg 253.7 nm resonance spectrum line inspiring phosphor.In order to study the influence of discharge parameters on the luminescence characteristics of EDL,firstly,the luminescence mechanism of EDL is theoretically analyzed,combined with the finite element simulation of Maxwell 3D.Then,the influences of discharge parameters such as cold spot temperature,gas pressure and input power on Hg 253.7 nm line and ICP visible radiation are experimentally studied by atomic emission spectral analysis.It is found that the relative intensity of Hg 253.7 nm line is distributed in a nearly normal fashion with the variation of three parameters separately,and visible illuminance increases with cold temperature.The results are qualitatively analyzed by gas discharge theory,which is important to the improvement of EDL' lighting effect.

Abstract:White light LED,with its energy saving,enviornment protection,high responsibility,long life,reliability,will rapidly substitue daylight lamp and incandescent lamp,and will finally be the main products in average illuminating sector.This research is set in the place where illumination is required.Take,for example,working in cars or dark outdoors,direct current of 12V,or 24V is usually given.The system adopts SG3524 chip as the core,matching with piezoelectricity circuit,modifying mu-circuit,and power supply change-over circuit to form a high-power white light LED constant-current controllable system,with wide application,low cost,simple maintenance.The system functiones well after plenty of tests.

Abstract:Focusing on the design and running condition of the reflectors in the lamp boxes,an experiment has been designed to confirm the quantization of the reflector's influence on the flash lamps radiation and neodymium glass fluorescence.The flash lamp radiation is measured by the high current diode.The neodymium glass fluorescence is recorded by the measurement system designed and manufactured by ourselves.Meanwhile,a high speed camera is used to observe the discharge channel.Results indi-cate that the reflector can improve the flash lamp radiation by 89% and the neodymium glass fluorescence by 78%.More impor-tant,the reason of flash lamp's"turning white"while running has been found.The reflector will induce the discharge channel forming near the reflector,making the lamp wall near the reflector be ablated excessively.

Abstract:Ultraviolet light emitting diodes (UV LEDs) have become widespread in chemical research as highly efficient light sources for photochemistry and photopolymerization. However, in more complex experimental setups requiring highly concentrated light and highly spatially resolved patterning of the light, high-pressure mercury arc lamps are still widely used because they emit intense UV light from a compact arc volume that can be efficiently coupled into optical systems. Advances in the deposition and p-type doping of gallium nitride have recently permitted the manufacture of UV LEDs capable of replacing mercury arc lamps also in these applications. These UV LEDs exceed the spectral radiance of mercury lamps even at the intense I-line at 365 nm. Here we present the successful exchange of a high-pressure mercury arc lamp for a new generation UV LED as a light source in photolithographic chemistry and its use in the fabrication of high-density DNA microarrays. We show that the improved light radiance and efficiency of these LEDs offer substantial practical, economic and ecological advantages, including faster synthesis, lower hardware costs, very long lifetime, an >85-fold reduction in electricity consumption and the elimination of mercury waste and contamination.

Abstract:The luminous efficien is the key parameter of electric light sources energy-saving performance. From the point of view of experiment, This article first calculates the spectrum power distribution of incandescent lamp, fluorescent lamp, high-pressure sodium lamp and the metal-halide lamp, then calculates the ratio of visible spectrum power to the whole spectrum power in order to prove theoretically that incandescent lamps have the low light efficiency, while the high-pressure sodium lamps and the metal-halide lamps have the higher light efficiency.
