Abstract:On the basis of establishing the finite element model for turbine′s diaphragm, and determining restraint-and load-boundary conditions, calculation and analysis of diaphragm′s strength for nozzle No.8 of a 600MW steam turbine have been carried out. The established model can basically represent the mechanical condition of turbine′s diaphragm, and the result of calculation tallies well with the report in related literature and experimental results.

Abstract:This article presents a study on applying the fracture mechanics-based method to predict the fatigue crack growth (FCG) characteristics of the turbine disc in a turboshaft engine. According to the stress analysis results, the electric discharge machining (EDM) method introduced notches for initiating cracks of a specific size into the critical locations of the turbine disc. The FCG of these cracks under cyclic load was predicted utilising a three-dimensional (3D) numerical analysis method and a simplified rectangular plate model with relevant fracture mechanics properties. Meanwhile, the full-scale spin test was performed using a pre-flawed turbine disc under intentional loads at an isothermal temperature. After the test, the crack surface fractography and the quantitative fracture striation analysis revealed the practical crack propagation behaviour. There was a relatively small difference between the experimental results and the 3D finite element method, which indicated the good pre-dictability of FEM for turbine disc crack growth. Furthermore, the rectangular plate models could predict the front stage of steady-state crack growth but were overall conservative due to their inability to precisely calculate the effects of crack growth and structure geometry on the stress intensity factor.

Abstract:In this paper, it is introduced Lemaire's non-linear low-cyclic continuous fatigue damage cumulative theory and tri-axiality factor, it is established the calculation model of low-cyclic fatigue life loss for rotor of turbine,using the results of test of low-cyclic fatigue test for material simple test to calculate the rotor's low-cyclic fatigue loss under the condition of complicated stress,and calculated the low-cyclic fatigue life loss of the rotor of turbine under the condition of complicated stress,and undertook the comparative analysis of the results of the calculation.The results of the analysis show that multiaxial damage cumulative model represents relatively accurately the process of rotor's low-cyclic fatigue life non-linear cumulative damage and approaches the actual situation of the engineering.

Abstract:Using ANSYSinfinite element analysis software,the thermal structural coupled calculation for rotor,with or without a central bore,of a 135 MW steam turbine unit under coldstate startingup condition has been carried out,the stress and strain in case of existed shaftseal grooves as well as in case of simplifying them into smooth shaft under same boundary condition and initial condition having obtained respectively.Selecting corresponding characteristic points of the governing stage and the first stage of medium pressure,the calculation results before and after simplifying the shaftseal grooves have been compared and analysed.It shows that the model of shaftseal grooves to be suitable for accurate calculation,while the calculated result of simplified smooth shaft model to be somewhat safer.These results provide reference for calculating the risky section of rotor for steam turbines.

Abstract:The structural characteristics, temperature environment and mechanical load of a multi-stage disc-shared complex shrunk-on rotor for nuclear steam turbine were studied, while its stress and temperature distribution calculated using Abaqus finite element software under assembly and steady operation conditions. Simultaneously, the effect of magnitude of assembly interference between the disc and main shaft on operation safety of the rotor was analyzed. Results show that the maximum temperature on surface of the shrunk-on rotor may reach up to 250°C in steady-state operation; from the inlet to the outlet, the rotor temperature decreases gradually along the axial direction; the temperature of last disc at outlet end is lower than 70°C; the effects of centrifugal load and thermal expansion on the contact stress are relatively obvious under steady-state operation condition; the reduction amplitude of contact stress produced by interference in the initial stage of assembly is relatively great during steady-state operation, however, under the existing magnitude of interference, safe operation of the shrunk-on rotor can still be guaranteed.

The ratio of section stress and the maximum stress are regarded as standard to estimate structure design rationality. It is compared with two dimensional finite difference result of high pressure blade ring, and I adopt new design scheme of high pressure blade ring with half circle groovy which can availability reduce stress of high pressure blade ring.

Abstract:Severe stress concentration occurs around circular vent holes of an industrial turbine sealing disk. This paper investigates the structural design and optimization for the vent holes to effectively reduce the maximum von Mises stress and improve the fatigue life of the turbine sealing disk. An efficient integrated design optimization method is presented based on a novel non-circular vent hole design method in combination with a variable dimension sub-model method, a self-developed modeling and meshing tool, and the Multi-Island Genetic Algorithm. The proposed non-circular vent hole is biaxial symmetric and consists of four smoothly connected arcs. The variable dimension sub-model method is utilized to obtain accurate results in the fields around the vent holes within the computationally acceptable time. The modeling and meshing tool is developed by using the Tcl/Tk Scripts to rebuild the geometry and generate the high-quality hexahedral mesh automatically. The Multi-Island Genetic Algorithm is adopted to solve the studied constrained optimization problem. After optimization, the maximum von Mises stress is reduced from 1305.644 MPa to 963.435 MPa, and the fatigue life is increased from 3091 cycles to 30297 cycles. The results show that the proposed design and optimization methods can significantly improve the performance of the turbine sealing disk along with the remarkable drop in stress concentration.

Abstract:Based on the element analysis ANSYS program,this paper analyzes the strength and stiffness for the bearing system of heavy-duty Gas turbine.The bearing system is a single equipment accompanied with machine.It is used repeatedly.It could both hang the bare machine and the complete machine with base.Considering this,the structure form of bearing system was determined.Using mixed modeling method,the maximum stress and displacement of the bearing system were calculated.The stress centralization of the geometry structure and the effect of the crescent costal board are researched.In virtue of reduplicative calculations,we confirm the optimum design as the shop drawing of the bearing system.

Abstract:A three dimentional finite element analysis of the temperature field and the thermal stress field regarding a 50MW steam turbine's high pressure cylinder in a powr plant under different operation conditions has been carried out. The results show, the position of calculated max. stress tallies completely with that of the cracked cylinder, providing important technical basis for evaluating the steam cylinder's safety and calculating the said cylinder's residual service-life.

Abstract:Fan discs are critical components of an aero engine. In this paper, contact stress and life prediction of a turbine fan disc were investigated. A simplified pin/disc model was conducted to simulate the practical working condition under applied loads using finite element (FE) analysis. This study is devoted to examining the effects of interface condition of pin/disc such as gap and coefficient upon the maximum stress. The FE model indicated that the maximum stress occurs at the top right corner in the second pin hole, and larger gap or friction coefficient has a significant effect on the maximum stress. In addition, FE analysis without considering friction is also conducted. The results show that the dangerous point is similar to the result which considers friction and the stress state is relatively larger than that of considering friction. Finally, based on FE analysis result, life prediction for the fan disc is conducted to combine the material S-N curve, mean stress effects and concentration stress factor obtained bymeans of FE method.

Abstract:Turbine blades are one of the key components in a typical turbofan engine, which plays an important role in flight safety. In this paper, we establish a establishes a three-dimensional finite element model of the turbine blades, then analyses the strength of the blade in complicated conditions under the joint function of temperature load, centrifugal load, and aerodynamic load. Furthermore, contact analysis of blade tenon and dovetail slot is also carried out to study the stress based on the contact elements. Finally, the Von Mises stress-strain distributions are obtained to acquire the several dangerous points and maximum Von Mises stress, which provide the basis for life prediction of turbine blade.

Abstract:As the main bearing part in a turbine blade, the root carries most of the loads of the whole blade. The improvement of the root structure can be used to enhance the operation reliability of steam turbine. The research on design optimization for double-T root and rim of a turbine blade was conducted by three-dimensional finite element method. Based on the APDL (ANSYS parametric design language), a multi-variable parametric model of the double-T root and rim was established. Twelve characteristic geometrical variables of the root-rim were optimized to minimize the maximum equivalent stress. The optimal structure of the double-T root-rim is obtained through the optimization. Compared with the original structure, the equivalent stress level of the root and rim has a significant reduction. Specifically, the maximum equivalent stress of root and rim reduces by 14.25% and 13.59%, respectively.

Abstract:With the growing of wind turbine manufacturing order of magnitude,the transmission torque increases,therefore,it is increasingly important for the gear design,otherwise the gear is soon damaged caused by fatigue pitting.Accurate modeling for a pair of gears of MW class wind turbine is built with the finite element method parametric APDL,and then a finite element model is generated after meshing to calculate the gear contact stress and bending stress in meshing.Afterwards the contact stress is verified by comparing with the contact stress theory formula of GB/T3480-1997,and we come to know that the gear contact stress distribution and the location where maximum stress occurs as well as the bending stress is much smaller than the contact stress.Thus it is possible to study the wind turbine gears of different materials,different profiles rapidly,and provide basis for the design of gear.

Abstract:By using three-dimensional analysis method of FEM,the numerical simulation was conducted for the lining and surrounding rock of the surge thaft of Bulunkou-Konggur hydropower station.It evaluated the stability of the surge shaft in running stage and proposed specific recommendations to improve the stability of the supporting structure through the analysis of the lining and surrounding rock of the surge shaft stress and deformation.The result can provide a reference for the design of throttled surge shaft with long and narrow upper chamber of similar projects.

Abstract:The development of turbine blade root style is one of the key problems in the blade design technology as the root carries most of the loads of the whole blade. The optimal design problem and the corresponding numerical method were established for a straddle root structure with the minimum equivalent stress of the root and rim as the optimal objective. A multi-variable parametric model of the blade and rim, which took eight critical geometrical variables of the root and rim as design variables, was built by APDL (ANSYS parametric design language) and the optimal problem was numerically solved by combining pattern search algorithm with finite element method. The results indicate that the optimized structure has better strength performance, whose maximum equivalent stress of the root sharply decreased by 25.18% comparing with the original design. It eventually confirms the feasibility and validity of the proposed optimal design method.

Abstract:As the capacity and thermal parameters of turbine generator become larger and higher, the strength design plays increasingly important part in manufacturing process while the traditional strength check method based on the nominal stress which is modified by the stress concentration factor has many disadvantages. The paper proposed Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to analyze the local stress which is more accurate and convenient to seek the dangerous failure point. The possible running conditions which maybe encountered in field are needed to be adequately considered in design process. Two phase short circuit which is the unavoidable condition in the unit’s running porcess plays significant impact on the shafts strength life and the unit’s life-cycle. The paper analyzes the fatigue evaluation of two phase short circuit to enhance the design reasonability as a typical case study. Using FEA and fatigue evaluation methods, more details of the shafts structures and the running processes are taken into accounts which make the dseign process more reliable.

Abstract:In order to have exact foundation in the decision of the danger point of steam turbine rotor in linear thermal-stress inspection and life-span management system,calculation of finite number of elements of thermal-stress coupled-field for 135 MW steam turbine rotor under the cold starting-up condition was calculated.The temperature and stress distribution of two different rotor model with and without central hole were calculated,with the same geometrical dimension,same boundary conditions and same initial conditions.The result shows that the two rotor models do not have great difference in the stress of outer surface,but have great difference in the stress of central position.

Abstract:Fatigue strength of torsion shaft is theoretically analyzed by using the method of the finite element way.According to the analysis of the stress distribution and stress values on the transition-arc between the torsion shaft journal and spline under the external load,it shows that the weakness is the tooth root of spline located in the transition-arc.Then an optimized arc radius is identified by analyzing the characteristics of the different transition-arc radius.And experimental study is also carried out to verify the correctness of the theoretical researching results.

Abstract:During load rejection process, the rotation rate, head and discharge change a lot and the internal flow of the runner is complex, leading to fatigue cyclic loads on the runner. In some cases, fatigue cracks appear at the stress concentration location of the runner. This paper studied the dynamic stresses of a pump-turbine runner during load rejection process in turbine mode using finite element method. The hydraulic loads were obtained from CFD analysis, and the clearance flow was taken into consideration in the CFD simulation. The variation of performance characteristics was calculated through the one-dimensional method of characteristic (1D-MOC). The results show that the pressure on outer surfaces of runner changed the stress of the runner, and the rotation rate had a great influence on the dynamic stresses of the runner.
