Abstract:Objective:The ability of oral bacteria to adhere to surfaces is associated with their pathogenicity. The objective of this study was to compare ability of 5 bacteria strains (S.mutans ATCC25175, Actinomyces.viscosus ATCC15987,Lactobacillus ATCC4546, P.gingivalis ATCC33277, P.intermedia ATCC25611) attach to collagen-treated hydroxyapatite (C-HA) beads, and the actions of oral bacteria on dental caries was discussed. Methods:The adherent percent of bacteria to C-HA was detected by radioisotope scintillation counter. The adhesion model in vitro was used to quantify adsorptive cells through thymidine labeling and counts per minute (CPM) was used to describe the adhesive percent of bacteria. Results:The study indicated that adhesion of all the test strains to collagen-treated hydroxyapatite (C-HA) have statistic significantly, their rates of adherence were different(P0.01).Actinomyces.viscosus exhibited the strongest binding to C-HA, Lactobacillus and P.gingival attached poorly, while, the avidity of S.mutans and P.intermedia species for collagen would seem to be at least. Conclusions:Different bacteria have different rate of adherence. The selective adhesion of bacteria close associated with cariogenic nature.Actinomyces.viscosus?Lactobacillus and P.gingivalis exhibited strong binding to C-HA, and the adherence of bacteria to teeth surfaces may play an important role in their local aggregation.
