Abstract:Severe thermal gradients during direct energy deposition (DED) generates complex residual deformation (RD), which has a negative impact on product quality. Existing research indicates that curvature is an important parameter for evaluating the RD of repaired components using DED. However, it is challenging to accurately measure the full-field curvature in different directions. To address this problem, we propose a new phase-shifting technique, the prism translation method (PTM), which can synchronously process the fringes in the optical path of different shearing directions. In this study, the principle of PTM and its governing equations are presented. In conjunction with PTM, we designed a CGS system and utilized it to analyze the full-field RD of the square stainless-steel repaired component. In the cladding area, the curvature of the repaired component is greater at the end of the cladding area than at the beginning, and greater in the middle than at the boundary. The magnitude of RD in the scanning direction is larger than that in the deposition direction. Furthermore, to evaluate the influence of the scanning path on RD, we propose two new evaluation indicators based on the relationship between the curvature and scanning path: distribution coefficient ( $${\nabla }_{space}$$ ) and amplitude coefficient ( $${\nabla }_{value}$$ ). Experimental results demonstrate that $${\nabla }_{space}$$ and $${\nabla }_{value}$$ can clearly describe the influence of the scanning path on the distribution and amplitude of RD, and PTM has advantages of high efficiency, simplicity of operation, and low cost.
