Abstract:An ultrasonic pulse-echo method was put forward to diagnose insulation condition of generator stator bars. Based on this method, a statistical minimal velocity, a statistical average velocity, and an attenuation coefficient of ultrasonic longitudinal waves propagated in stator insulation were measured, and a statistical defect rate were measured also. Three sets of stator bars in-service for 16, 18 and 23 year periods respectively in three generators (300MW, 18kV) and a new stator bar were tested in laboratory, several stator windings in a generator were also tested to examine the on-site testing capability of this method. The experimental results indicated that statistical minimal velocity and statistical average velocity decrease with insulation in-service time, the decrease of statistical minimal velocity is larger than that of statistical average velocity, and that statistical defect rate measured on sever-aged insulation is greater. The on-site ultrasonic testing results demonstrated that two velocity parameters are measured practically in the condition of generator light maintenance. It is effective and practical to use ultrasonic pulse-echo method for insulation condition diagnosis of generator stator bars.

Abstract:The detection and recognition of defects in insulation is a significant investigation for insulation diagnosis. In our laboratory, an ultrasonic testing system has been developed and used for insulation diagnosis of large generators. Using this system with lower frequency transducers, experiments were performed on actual stator bars. The results showed that, the 0.5~1.2 MHz frequency transducers could be used for the manufacturing quality test of stator bars. The 0.5~0.8 MHz transducers are more effective for aging assessment of aged stator bars. They are sensitive to the degradation and the internal mechanical damages of aged stator insulation

Abstract:Voids or cracks in basin insulators inside a GIS (gas-insulated metal-enclosed switchgear) could trigger partial discharges or surface flashover under electrical stresses, threatening safe GIS operation. For this paper, some epoxy composite specimens were made from similar materials and manufacturing processes to make 252 kV GIS basin insulators. Some voids with different diameters or cracks with different diameters and orientations were artificially made in the specimens with different thicknesses. An ultrasonic pulse-echo system was set up, and ultrasonic tests were carried out on the specimens with voids or cracks. A method to calculate the depth of a defect was proposed by the propagation time of defect reflected waves. The results showed that a depth of 50 mm, a diameter φ of 2 mm void, and a diameter φ of 1 mm crack in epoxy composite insulation were detected by the ultrasonic system using a 1 MHz transducer.

Abstract:The fracture of ceramic post insulators in substations is a very important factor which disturbs the normal working of high-voltage (HV) substations. Every year there are some serious grid accidents caused by the fracture of ceramic post insulators in some countries. The fracture is usually caused by the propagation of the crack. Therefore, in this paper, an ultrasonic on-line test method for inspecting automatically the internal crack of the energised porcelain post insulator at 220kV substations is introduced to prevent the fracture. The correlative ultrasonic detection technology of the energised ceramic post insulators is investigated. Furthermore, an inspection mechanism and robotised inspection system with good insulation safety property and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) performance are designed. The experimental results show that, even in the high-voltage and strong magnetic field circumstance in substations, the live-line remote inspection of energised porcelain post insulators can be accomplished safely, conveniently, steadily, reliably and effectively with this method.

Abstract:对谏壁电厂 7号机 (18kV ,30 0MW )更换线棒进行了多因子加速老化试验 ,在线棒的不同老化阶段进行了局部放电和超声波声速试验。试验发现 ,局部放电平均值是反映绝缘缺陷最好的参数 ,在局部放电统计参数中 ,放电平均值相位分布的偏斜度最能反映绝缘的老化程度。超声波声速试验的结果显示出 ,超声波声速可以表征发电机定子绝缘老化状态 ;随着线棒老化时间增长 ,其超声波声速明显降低。两项试验结果一致地表明 ,绝缘老化是由于其内部出现了微观缺陷

Abstract:An intelligent system is developed to assess the remaining life of large generators insulation. In this system, a method based on ultrasonic pulse-echo testing, development tool of virtual instrument techniques, a data base of the statistic ultrasonic velocity values measured on stator bars operating in three 300 MW generators for 16, 18 and 23 years respectively and a standby stator bar are used. By the measurements of a statistic minimal velocity and a statistic average velocity, this system can predict intelligently a most reliable remaining life and a 95% reliable remaining life for large generators. Plant field tests are performed on a 300 MW generator in-service for 23 years. The results demonstrated the assessment of remaining life is significant for the reliable operating of large generators.

Abstract:为了研究大型发电机主绝缘的老化机理，评估其剩余寿命，需要对其定子试样线棒进行多因子应力综合老化试验，并测试能反映其老化程度的特性参数。文章对测试过程中影响检测结果的关键环节——电极系统进行了实验研究，提出了采用超低电阻混合漆料作为局部放电和介质损耗测量电极的技术方案。实验结果表明，该技术方案不但能消除传统铝箔电极对局部放电测量产生的影响，而且能保证介质损耗测量时的准确度。该漆料是检测发电机定子线棒老化特性比较理想的电极材料。

Abstract:Insulation components are prone to form internal defects during the production process, which can have adverse effects on its stable operation. Thus the effective detection and diagnosis holds immense importance. In this paper, an ultrasonic testing platform is designed to bubbles/cracks detect and verify the effectiveness and feasibility of this method. To address the issue of resolving weak acoustic signals to determine and distinguish defect types, a diagnosis method is proposed. The time and frequency domain information of defect echoes are obtained by discrete wavelet decomposition, and the defect features are reduced by linear discriminant analysis. Moreover, a step-by-step diagnosis model of typical defects is established by combining sparrow optimization algorithm and backpropagation neural network. This method enables the identification of various defect types and morphological characteristics, enhancing the sensitivity of the ultrasonic testing method, which can provide effective support for defect detection of insulators.

Abstract:A set of acoustic detection facility developed by our research group is used to investigate defects and aging in stator bar insulation, which have subjected to electrical, thermal and mechanical stresses for 1000 hours, respectively. The acoustic signal analysis in time domain, frequency domain and wavelet transform at four different scales has been conducted, respectively. It is observed that frequency components concentrate mainly about 1kHz for specimens unaged, while shift to 2kHz for specimens subjected to electrical stress or mechanical stresses. A new high frequency component at 6kHz is characteristic of the specimens subjected to thermal stress. It is suggested that electrical or mechanical stress aging would lead to decrease in block density of insulation with epoxy/mica and thermal aging should be contributed to delamination of the insulation. This acoustic detection system is effective for finding defects in stator winding insulation of generator.

Abstract:To improve the accuracy and validity of ultrasonic detection for insulation pull rod, a suitable ultrasonic focusing probe and the corresponding analysis system are developed in this paper, considering the material property, structure characteristic and the features of typical internal defects. In addition, a series of samples containing typical defects were tested to acquire the time-domain and frequency-domain characteristics, based on which an effective method that use the echo amplitude of defect and the second peak of spectrum to identify the defects is proposed. Experimental results show that in case of void defects, the time interval between surface echo and defect echo increases with the increase of defect depth. On the contrary, the second peak of spectrum has negative correlation with the depth and size of the void defects. When insulation pull rob is subjected to strong stress, the insulation pull rob appears layered and degummed, which result in the echo of time-domain and frequency-domain was distorted a lot. In conclusion, the combination of the time-domain and frequency-domain characteristics can successfully diagnosis defects in insulation pull rod.
Research on Acousto-optic Joint Detection and Visual Diagnosis Method of Power Equipment

Abstract:Inclusions, pores, and cracks in the insulation materials of electrical equipment is increasing, leading to the continuous occurrence of insulation cracking and burning, which seriously threatens the safe and stable operation of the power grid. In the cause of above problems, this paper proposes a joint detection and diagnosis method for the outdoor insulation status, using image matching and image fusion technology to fuse the ultrasound and ultraviolet results, and thus quickly locate the corona discharge of high-voltage devices. First, based on the optimized multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm and the ultrasonic single helix sensor array, an ultrasonic positioning visualization method of corona discharge is proposed. Subsequently, based on the refracted light path realizing the ultraviolet imaging, the visualization of the ultraviolet positioning is presented. Ultimately, the result of image fusion is provided. The positioning error evaluation of each part is carried out in the meantime. Facts proved the proposed algorithm is in high accuracy and good adaptability. Moreover, the proposed visualization method is faster locating insulation fault, and has broad application prospects.
Using impact-echo to assess the aged stator insulation of generators

Abstract:This paper describes a new nondestructive test method, based on transient stress wave propagation, to assess the aging condition of stator bars in generators. The method is called the impact-echo method. In this method, a stress pulse is introduced into an object by mechanical impact on its surface, and this pulse undergoes multiple reflections between opposite faces of the object The surface displacement of the object, caused by the reflected pulse, is monitored at a location adjacent to the point of impact, and the frequency of successive arrivals is determined. Since the displacement waveform will alter with the increase of voids and delaminations at mica/epoxy interface due to insulation aging, impact-echo tests were performed to study the displacement changes of stator bars in the period of accelerated aging test. The experimental results demonstrated that the impact-echo method could be used successfully to assess the aging condition of insulation.

Abstract:对大型电动机环氧云母绝缘线棒进行了多因子加速老化试验 ,在不同老化阶段进行了交流电流、击穿电压测量。根据交流电流曲线的特点 ,提出了求取第二电流急增点电压的新方法——逐点拟合法 ,并分析了第二电流急增点电压与剩余击穿电压的相关性。结果表明 :逐点拟合法能准确地求取第二电流急增点电压 ,且用此电压值推算环氧云母主绝缘的剩余击穿电压是有效的

Abstract:Aiming at the problems of single technical means and difficult quantitative analysis in the process of insulation defect detection of high voltage switchgear, in this paper, the effects of bubble and crack on the stress distribution of insulation diaphragm under electric field were studied by finite element method. On this basis, an ultrasonic stress detection method for insulation defects of high voltage switchgear was proposed. A detection system in this study was constructed, and the artificial simulated defect samples placed in the high voltage switchgear were also tested. Our study show that the average error of defect size was 0.24mm. The experimental results show that this method can effectively detect and quantitatively analyze the insulation defects in high voltage switchgear, and the detection results have high accuracy.

Abstract:The internal insulation defect is the main reason for the failure of high voltage switchgear. At present, there is a lack of effective technical means and methods for live detection of switchgear insulation defects. In this study, the artificial bee colony algorithm was improved to estimate the parameters of ultrasonic echo, then the imaging detection method of ultrasonic echo was proposed. Finally, the live detection system of switchgear based on ultrasonic echo imaging was constructed. Through test verification, it is concluded that: the improved artificial bee colony algorithm has high precision parameter estimation results, and the estimation error was less than 1%. Finally, the live detection system of switchgear based on ultrasonic echo imaging was applied in the field. The results show that: this system can fully reflect the internal defect morphology of switchgear insulation and can also meet the accuracy and real-time requirements of switchgear live detection system based on ultrasonic echo imaging.

Abstract:Seven hundred fifty kilovolt extra-high voltage (EHV) shunt reactors are important power equipment that stabilize the normal operation of an entire 750 kV power grid. Internal winding faults of a reactor could be a difficult issue when the reactor is in service, and result in sudden equipment failure and significant economic losses. To prevent sudden catastrophic failure of equipment, online detection should be implemented to evaluate the state of the reactor properties when requested. In this paper, a noninvasive method based on online impulse frequency analysis was proposed and developed to detect internal winding faults of a 750 kV EHV shunt reactor. Initially, the safe implementation of the online detecting device was verified before field installation. Unlike in previous work, the online detecting device was modified and improved according to the specific situation of shunt reactors. Original fingerprints of 750 kV EHV shunt reactors were obtained and analyzed after site installation and normal operation of the detecting device. A fault simulation test was implemented to validate the method. This paper provides guidance on actual implementation of online impulse frequency response analysis on power equipment.

Abstract:大型发电机在长期的运行过程中,由于定子线圈的电流与定子槽内横向磁场的作用使得槽部线棒承受相当大的电磁力,定子槽楔长期在机械应力作用下会发生松动现象。定子槽楔发生松动会导致定子线棒在电磁力的作用下产生电磁振动,从而加剧定子线棒绝缘的机械磨损及槽内放电引起的绝缘腐蚀,这直接威胁着大型发电机的安全运行。文章综述了大电机定子槽楔的作用和大电机中松动槽楔的存在可能导致的危害,介绍了国内外多种检测槽楔松动的技术和方法,并分析了它们的优缺点,最后重点介绍了本实验室在槽楔松动检测方面的最新成果。

Abstract:ABSTACT: Based on dynamic mechanical analysis, aging diagnosis of large generator winding insulation, subjected to combined stresses including electrical, thermal, mechanical vibration and thermal cycling factors under simulated conditions, is introduced and a novel method used to characterize the insulation aging condition of stator bar specimen with dynamic mechanical parameters is developed in this paper. The dynamic mechanical experiments were conducted in different multi-stress aging periods and the relationships between the insulation aging condition and mechanical characteristic parameters are discussed. It has been proved by experiments that the dynamic mechanical operators, such as dynamic modulus, temperature of glass transition, dynamic mechanical loss peak value, width of half a peak value and apparent activation energy of glass transition are the valuable indicators of the delamination and fracture behavior of stator winding insulation.

Abstract:The epoxy/mica insulation in a generator stator deteriorates under the conditions of thermal, electrical, vibrational and thermo-mechanical stresses when the generator is running. To assess the insulation aging status and to understand the deterioration process, an ultra-wide band partial discharge testing method was adopted in this study. A multi-stress accelerated aging equipment was established to imitate the actual service conditions. Obvious change in the waveforms of discharge pulses was observed when the epoxy/mica insulation was under accelerated aging condition in the laboratory. The test results indicated the formation and growth of voids in the insulation during the aging process. Furthermore, optical microscopy and SEM were used to examine the insulation. Delamination and cracks in the insulation were observed which accorded with the ultra-wide band partial discharge test results.

Abstract:为研究铁芯损伤电磁感应检测(electromagnetic core imperfection detector,ELCID)法在诊断发电机定子铁芯绝缘损伤问题方面的有效性,根据ELCID法的基本原理,分析了ELCID设备的结构及应用,同时运用Ansoft Maxwell软件,建立了基于有限元法的定子铁芯仿真模型,分析了对于不同位置的故障点,以及不同程度的绝缘损伤,ELCID法是否都能有效进行测量。研究结果表明:对于定子铁芯表面的绝缘损伤,ELCID法可以较为有效准确地测量表面故障点的电流;对于铁芯内部的故障,ELCID法不能准确测量故障点处的电流,但可以大致判断故障点的位置及损伤程度。相关结论为ELCID法的进一步应用提供了参考。
