Abstract:was transferred into a 250 ml beaker. In the same time 3.0 g NiCl2·2H2 Ow as dissolved in 50 ml distilled water in another beaker and the blue coordination compound solution was obtained while 20 ml 25 v/v% ammonia solution was added into the solution after strongly stirring for 10 min. Then the solution was added dropwise into the first-prepared suspended mixture of zinc. The reaction was carried out for 10 hr under stirring. The solid products were precipitated and separated by placing a magnet under the beaker. All the procedures were carried out at room temperature. For purifying the products, the obtained black products were treated with 20 ml 0.8 mol/l NaOH for two times and continually treated with 20 ml 11.0 mol/l NaOH. The black products prepared were washed with distilled water and alcohol for several times, respectively. The samples obtained were characterized by Xray powder diffraction (XRD) using a 18 kW advanced X-ray diffractometer with CuKα radiation (λ = 1.54056 ˚

Abstract:The AlOOH core/shell microspheres were successfully synthesized via a one-step template-free hydrothermal route. By simply changing the ratio of alcohol to water, core/shell microspheres constructed with nanoplatelets and their curling structures could be selectively synthesized. A series of controlled experiments have also been carried out to better understand the formation mechanism of AlOOH spheres and the function of reactants used in the experiments. The formation of core/shell structures may involve aggregation of amorphous building clusters into spheres and their subsequent reaction, dissolution, and re-deposition process. The morphology, structure, and composition of the spheres are investigated using field-emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction analysis. The specific surface area and pore-size distribution of the obtained product as determined by gas-sorption measurements show that the boehmite core–shell microspheres exhibit high Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area and porosity properties. The as-prepared AlOOH core–shell superstructures are powerful in the removal of Congo red pollutant from waste water.

Abstract:A novel template-free sonochemical synthesis technique was used to prepare NiO microspheres combined with calcination of NiO2.45C0.74NO2.5H2.90 precursor at 500 degrees C. The NiO microspheres samples were systematically investigated by the thermograviometric/differential scanning calorimetry (TG/DSC), X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Brunnauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms, laser particle size analyzer, and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis). The morphology of the precursor was retained even after the calcination process, and exhibited hierarchically porous sphericity. The morphology changed over the ultrasonic radiation time, and the shortest reaction time was 70 min, which was much less than 4 h for the mechanical stirring process. The mechanical stirring was difficult to form the complete hierarchically porous microsphere structure. The BET specific surface area and the median diameter of the hierarchically porous NiO microspheres were 103.20 m(2)/g and 3.436 mu m, respectively. The synthesized NiO microspheres were mesoporous materials with a high fraction of macropores. The pores were resulted from the intergranular accumulation. The ultraviolet absorption spectrum showed a broad emission at the center of 475 nm, and the band gap energy was estimated to be 3.63 eV. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:β-Nickel hydroxide microspheres with flakelike nanostructure have been successfully synthesized by a low temperature hydrothermal method at 100°C for 2h. The sphere size was about 0.6–1.0μm. The hierarchical structure was nanoflake and thickness of each nanoflake was about 15nm. The formation mechanism of β-nickel hydroxide microsphere with flakelike nanostructures was discussed. Their electrochemical properties were also described. The discharge specific capacity is 260mAhg−1. Because of their unique structures and excellent electrochemistrical properties, the flakelike nanostructures of nickel hydroxide spheres may give a new perspective for applications in the rechargeable batteries.

Abstract:NiS hollow microspheres were synthesized by the reaction of nickel acetate and thioacetamide in ethanol at 150 degrees C. XRD, TEM, SAED (selected area electron diffraction), and SEM were utilized to characterize the products. The results show that the products were hollow microspheres made of beta- and alpha-NiS, while the hollow spheres were transformed from the a-NiS solid ones.

Abstract:Wurtzite ZnO microspheres, 5.5–11μm in diameter and with smooth surfaces, were prepared in absolute ethanol via a simple template-free method in the presence of ethylenediamine. The products were characterized using X-ray powder diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. This simple method to fabricate ZnO microspheres shows high yield (>90%) and good reproducibility. The formation process of ZnO microspheres was discussed. The as-obtained ZnO microspheres are expected to provide some immediate advantages for optical, microelectronic, and biological applications.

Abstract:Hollow and porous nickel microspheres with potential applications as catalysts, magnetic materials, and adsorbing materials were synthesized by self-assembly in an aqueous medium in which hydrazine hydrate acted as the reducing agent. The crystal structure, phase, particle size and magnetic performance of the hollow nickel microspheres were characterized and the effects of the template, pH value, temperature, and reaction time were evaluated. Uniform hollow nickel spheres with porous structures could be obtained at 75°C and pH of 9–10 with a heating time of 30min. The average diameter of the spheres was 1.4μm and mean thickness of the sphere wall was 120nm. Polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PK40) played an important role in the formation of the spherical template which controlled the formation of hollow spheres. Magnetic measurements indicated that the hollow nickel spheres are soft-magnetic materials with much lower coercivity and much higher saturation magnetization compared to the nickel crystals with irregular shapes.

Abstract:<p>In this work, hierarchical hollow ZnO microspheres with an average diameter of 3.5 μm are successfully synthesized via a simple template-free solvothermal route. And these microspheres are constructed by anisotropic single-crystalline ZnO nanorods which grows along the [0001] c-axis direction because of the selective adsorption of ethylene glycol. It is noted that ethylene glycol plays a crucial role in promoting the growth and aggregation of nanorod by comparing the effect of other solvents, such as water, ethanol, isopropanol and glycerol. Furthermore, the photocatalytic activity of as-obtained hollow ZnO microspheres is evaluated by the degradation of methylene blue (MB) in aqueous solution. The photocatalytic performance of this material reveals that these hollow ZnO microspheres can not only efficiently degradate the dye, but also show good stability during the cycling photodegradation.</p>

Abstract:Macroporous TiO2 microspheres have been synthesized on a large scale by a facile hydrothermal process using titanium tetrachloride (TiCl4) as the titanium source, ammonium fluoride (NH4F) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) as the etchant. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and transmission electron microscope (TEM) studies show that the anatase TiO2 microspheres are well-crystalline with an average diameter of 5.43μm. N2 adsorption–desorption and mercury intrusion porosimetry analysis reveal that the as-prepared TiO2 microspheres are composed of numerous pore networks with an average pore diameter of 274nm and porosity of 39.8%. In addition, the formation mechanisms of macroporous TiO2 microspheres were also investigated.

Abstract:NiO microspheres were successfully obtained by calcining the Ni(OH)2 precursor, which were synthesized via the hydrothermal reaction of nickel chloride, glucose and ammonia. The products were characterized by TGA, XRD and SEM. The influences of glucose and reaction temperature on the morphologies of NiO samples were investigated. Moreover, the possible growth mechanism for the spherical morphology was proposed. The charge/discharge test showed that the as-prepared NiO microspheres composed of nanoparticles can serve as an ideal electrode material for supercapacitor due to the spherical hollow structure.

Abstract:Synthesis of hollow colloidal particles with a well-defined structure in a single step is challenging and highly desired for numerous applications. We propose a simple and productive approach to synthesize hierarchical nickel hydroxidenitrate hollow colloidal particles (NiHNHCP) with tunable structure and property via a one-pot manner for the application in supercapacitor. In this approach, the formation of the NiHN shells and the dissolution of the melamine-formaldehyde (MF) template particles occur simultaneously and successively under a solvothermal condition with time. It is found that the nickel precursors can protonate the solvent, declining the pH and further causing the dissolution of the MF particles. Meanwhile, the nickel precursors transform into NiHN nanosheets that self-assemble into hierarchical shells exclusively at the surface of the MF particles. With the reactions proceeding, the NiHNHCP are yielded ultimately. These NiHNHCP are characterized with superior electrochemical performance, making them practically useful in the application of supercapacitor.

Abstract:Mono-dispersive hierarchical NiO and Ni/C microspheres were synthesized through a precursor method. The uniform coordination precursor microspheres were easily obtained by treating nickel acetate in methanol under solvothermal conditions. After the precursor was calcined in the air or nitrogen, two kinds of Ni-based nanostructures, NiO and Ni/C can be obtained, respectively. Both the Ni-based nanostructures are uniform mono-dispersive microspheres as the parent precursor and have hierarchical structures assembled by NiO and Ni nanoparticles. The hierarchical NiO and Ni/C microspheres were verified to have good catalytic activities for the propellant combustion of ammonium perchlorate.

Abstract:α-Ni(OH) 2 with hierarchical structures were synthesized via a simple route using Ni(NO 3 ) 2 •6H2O and urea as the starting materials. The experimental results from XRD and FT-IR showed that the samples prepared by this method had the typical α-phase and the size of samples can be control by adjusting the reaction conditions. SEM images showed many uniform flowerlike or spherelike architectures with diameters of 4-6μm consisted of dozens of nanosheets. The effects of nickel sources on the phase and morphology of the prepared samples were studied, the nickel sources had an effect on both the crystallinity and size of the prepared samples.

Abstract:Novel CaTiO3 microspheres composed of nanosheets have been successfully prepared via a very simple solvothermal process in ethanol aqueous solution without any template or surfactant. The microstructure and morphology are characterized by X-ray diffraction, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. The effects of the reaction time, reaction temperature, and molar ratio of ethanol/water on the formation of the spherical structure have been investigated. CaTiO3 microspheres assembled by nanosheet units have been obtained by controlling the molar ratio of water/ethanol. The growth mechanism has been proposed based on the results of time-dependent experiments. It is proposed that amorphous particles transformed to nanosheets, and nanosheets self assembly into solid microspheres, then nanosheets building units further oriented growth along [1 1 0] direction result in the formation of nanosheets building units, and finally form the microsphere composed of nanosheets. CaTiO3 microspheres show higher photocatalytic activity than randomly aggregated nanosheets. In addition, CaTiO3 microspheres are stable during the photocatalytic reaction and more convenient to store and handle as a micrometre-scale structure. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:A novel template-free hydrothermal method is developed to prepare large-scale ZnO hollow microspheres. The key strategy for the successful realization is that we employ a high concentration of trisodium citrate to control the nucleation and growth rate of ZnO crystal forming microspheres with core/shell structures and the proper pH of an alkaline solution to remove the cores generating hollow microspheres. The morphology, structure, and composition of the microspheres have been investigated with field-emission scanning electron microscopy and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy for the growth mechanism. A series of controlled experiments have also been carried out to better understand the formation mechanism of ZnO hollow microspheres and the function of reactants used in the experiments. The infrared absorption spectra indicate that annealing can lead to the decomposition of impurity groups in the as-prepared sample. Both room-temperature Raman and photoluminescence results demonstrate that the annealed ZnO microspheres are of good crystalline wurtzite structure with high optical quality.

Abstract:Hierarchical flower-like Nb2O5 microspheres have been prepared via a facile hydrothermal approach without any additives. X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were employed to clarify the structure and morphology of the Nb2O5 microspheres. Structure and morphology evolution mechanisms have been proposed for the hierarchical structure in detail. During the symmetric Ostwald ripening, the resultants formed aggregates composed of two-dimensional nanoflakes as building blocks. Photocatalytic activity of the as-prepared Nb2O5 microspheres was evaluated by the photodegradation of Rhodamine B (RhB), and over 90% of RhB was degraded within 30 min under the irradiation of UV light. The as-prepared Nb2O5 exhibits higher photocatalytic activity than commercial Degussa P25. Moreover, Nb2O5 was tested as an anode material of lithium-ion batteries, which displayed high reversibility and excellent rate stability at a current density of 50 mA g(-1).
