Abstract:The application of amine derivatives as coupling partners is rare due to the inherent strength of the C-N bond. Herein, we report the first cross-electrophile coupling reaction of unstrained benzylic sulfonamides. Nickel-catalyzed intramolecular cross-electrophile coupling reactions of acyclic and cyclic benzylic sulfonamides with pendant alkyl chlorides generate cyclopropane products. Mechanistic experiments and DFT calculations are consistent with initiation of the reaction by magnesium iodide accelerated oxidative addition of the benzylic sulfonamide. This work establishes neutral and unstrained amine derivatives as XEC partners, furnishes structural rearrangement of benzylic sulfonamides, and provides valuable information regarding catalyst design for the development of new cross-electrophile coupling reactions of carbon-heteroatom bonds.

Abstract:An efficient approach for the reversal of regioselectivity in the nucleophilic introduction of difluorinated carbanion into α,β-enones has been developed via a silylium catalysis. The strong electron-withdrawing properties and bulky substituents of in situ-generated silyl triflic imide catalyst is the key for the 1,4-addition reaction to proceed smoothly. The synthetic utility is highlighted by the further use of this method for the synthesis of 2,4,6-triarylsubstituted 3-fluoropyridines in a one-pot manner.

Abstract:A new strategy for the sequential formation of aryl and amidyl C-N bonds is reported. Using trichloroethoxysulfonyl azide as a bifunctional nitrogen source, Ir-catalyzed aryl C-H sulfonamidation and subsequent desulfonative amide formation proceed effectively without any need of oxidants or coupling reagents. This protocol is suitable for readily available benzamides and stable carboxylates including primary, secondary, and tertiary alkyl, alkenyl, and phenyl carboxylates, thereby providing a direct and efficient method for the synthesis of biologically and chemically useful N-arylamides.

Abstract:An easily accessible, anion-functionalized ionic liquid, 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium (S)-2-amino-3-methylbutyric acid salt, [emim] [Val], has been demonstrated to be an efficient additive for the CuI-catalyzed coupling reaction of sulfinic acid salts with aryl iodides, aryl bromides and vinyl bromides, leading to the formation of sulfones in good yields.

Abstract:A practical electrochemical Minisci‐type reaction for the synthesis of silylated heterocycles is described. Using N‐hydroxyphthalimide (NHPI) as the hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) catalyst and trialkylsilanes as the silyl radical sources, a wide range of electron‐deficient heterocycles in‐cluding quinoline, quinoxaline, phthalazine, 3,6‐dichloropyridazine, phenanthridine, 6‐chloroimidazo[1,2‐b]pyridazine and coumarin, etc. were easily converted to the corresponding silylated products in 37–83% yields.

Abstract:An iron-catalyzed selective N=S coupling of N-methoxy amides and sulfoxides has been developed and was found to be a highly efficient method for the synthesis of N-acyl sulfoximines. Electron-donating as well as electron-withdrawing groups on the phenyl ring are tolerated, and even sensitive substituents are compatible. The current catalytic transformation was conducted under an air atmosphere and can be easily scaled up to a gram scale with a catalyst loading of only 1 mol %. In this case, both coupling partners are used in their native forms, thus obviating prior functionalization and activation.

Abstract:Despite substantial strides in the catalytic silylation of N2 employing phosphine-ligated transition metal complexes, further development has been impeded by the low reaction yields (based on reducing or silylating reagents). Here we present a series of Mo(VI) nitride complexes featuring a robust tridentate diphenolate N-heterocyclic carbene (OCO) ligand that serves as efficient catalysts for the reduction of N2 to silylamines, producing 57.3 equiv of tris(trimethylsilyl)amine with a yield of as high as 86%. Reductive silylation of Mo nitride complexes resulted in the isolation of a molybdenum silylimide intermediate. Our findings showed that the enhanced efficiency of the system could be ascribed to the high activity of catalysts and the suppression of side reactions, indicating that the OCO ligand plays a crucial role in stabilizing the Mo center across in high- and low-oxidation states in catalysis.

Abstract:An efficient nickel-catalyzed cross-coupling for the synthesis of 2-sulfonylthiazoles from readily available 2-chlorobenzothiazoles and sodium sulfinates has been developed. A variety of 2-chlorobenzothiazoles and sulfinates having a diverse range of substitution patterns can undergo the coupling process successfully at room temperature. Avoiding the use of precious catalysts and sensitive ligands, moderate to excellent yields of various 2-sulfonylthiazoles were observed.
