Abstract:A straightforward reductive cross-coupling of aryl halides and aldehydes to afford silyl-protected secondary alcohols is reported. The catalytic system features the use of nickel/photoredox dual catalysis and α-silylamine as a mild, easily accessible organic reductant, thus enabling the coupling process occur smoothly under mild condition without the necessity of pre-preparing highly reactive organometallic reagents and using stoichiometric amout of metal-based reductants (such as Mn, Zn). Key to success of this reductive coupling is to identify α-silylamine as a bifunctional organic reductant that simultaneously serving as a reducing agent and a transmetallic reagent to restore nickel catalyst. The reaction shows broad substrate scope and tolerates various functional groups, a variety of (hetero)aryl and aliphatic aldehydes are compatible, thus providing a complementary approach to Zn/Mn-mediated reductive coupling systems.

Abstract:Herein, we report the alkylation of alkenyl carbonates using alkyl Grignard reagents and iron catalysis to generate C(sp2)–C(sp3) bonds and provide synthetically useful yields over a range of substrates. The transformation allows the alkylation of a wide range of substrates, including aromatic rings, alkanes, cycloalkanes, heterocycles. This reaction has introduced a new family of electrophiles to the iron‐catalyzed cross‐coupling reactions.

Abstract:The reaction of aryl thiol with aryl bromide usually provided thioether as the major product, even in the presence of transition metal catalyst and zinc mediator. We reported here a cross-electrophile coupling of aryl thiol with aryl bromide via C-S bond activation instead of S-H bond cleavage. The reaction proceeded effectively in the presence of nickel catalyst, magnesium turnings, and lithium chloride in THF at room temperature to afford a variety of structurally diverse biaryls in moderate to good yields.

Abstract:Carbosilylation of alkenes can be an efficient approach to the synthesis of organosilicon compounds. However, few general methods of carbosilylation are known. Here, we introduce a strategy for arylsilylation of electron deficient terminal alkenes by combining photoredox-catalyzed silyl radical generation, innate reactivity of silyl radical with alkene, and Ni-catalyzed aryl-alkyl cross-coupling. This cooperative photoredox and nickel catalysis operates under mild conditions. It employs readily available alkenes, aryl bromides, and silane as reagents, and it produces useful synthetic building blocks in a modular manner.

Abstract:Coupling by metal-carbene transfer enables the formation of several different bonds at the carbenoid site, enabling prochiral Csp3 centers that are fundamental three-dimensional substructures for medicines to be forged with increased efficiency. However, strategies using bulk chemicals are rare because of the challenge of breaking two unactivated geminal bonds. Herein, we report the reactivity of ethers to form metal-carbene intermediate by cleavage of α-Csp3-H/Csp3-O bonds, which achieve selective coupling with arylmagnesium bromides and chlorosilanes. These couplings are catalysed by cyclic (alkyl)(amino)carbene-chromium complex and enable the one-step formation of 1,n-arylsilyl alcohols and α-arylated silanes. Mechanistic studies indicate that the in-situ formed low-valent Cr might react with iodobenzene to form phenyl radical species, which abstracts the α-H atom of ether in giving α-oxy radical. The latter combines with Cr by breaking α-Csp3-O bond to afford metal-carbene intermediate, which couples with aryl Grignard and chlorosilane to form two σ-bonds.

Abstract:Transition-metal catalyzed carbosilylation of alkenes using carbon electrophiles and silylmetal (-B, -Zn) reagents as the nucleophiles offers a powerful strategy for synthesizing organosilicones, by incorporating carbon and silyl groups across on C-C double bonds in one step. However, to the best of our knowledge, the study of silylative alkenes difunctionalization based on carbon and silyl electrophiles remains underdeveloped. Herein, we present an example of silylative alkylation of activated olefins with unactivated alkyl bromides and chlorosilanes as electrophiles under nickel catalysis. The main feature of this protocol is employing more easily accessible substrates including primary, secondary and tertiary alkyl bromides, as well as various chlorosilanes without using pre-generated organometallics. A wide range of alkylsilanes with diverse structures can be efficiently assembled in a single step, highlighting the good functionality tolerance of this approach. Furthermore, successful functionalization of bioactive molecules and synthetic applications using this method demonstrate its practicability.
