Abstract:The catalytic construction of silicon-carbon bond is one of the most important and key processes in organosilicon chemistry and remains an ongoing challenge in homogeneous catalysis. Herein we report an unprecedent and convenient palladium-catalyzed Si-C(sp3) bond-forming cross-coupling silylation of benzyl halides with structurally diverse hydrosilanes, which provides a direct and chemoselective approach to the facile synthesis of various silanes and their derivatives with moderate to good yields. The phosphine-controlled and B(C6F5)-assisted Pd-catalyzed C(sp3)-Si cross-coupling silylation exhibits good functional group tolerances and demonstrates a powerful potential of silicon-based cross coupling reaction for the preparation of structurally diverse benzyl silanes. This protocol also features simple reaction conditions, wide substrate scope, high chemoselectivity, and environmentally benign, offering a new pathway for the synthesis of tri-or tertiary-substituted functional organosilicon compounds.

Abstract:An efficient Pd-catalyzed silylation reaction of benzylic halides with silylboronate is reported. In this reaction, primary and secondary benzylic halides could react well with silylboronates to afford benzylic silanes. This reaction accommodates a broad substrate scope and proceeds smoothly under very mild reaction conditions. The corresponding products could be obtained in moderate to high yields and with stereospecificity.

Abstract:A new series of xylyl-linked bis-benzimidazolium salts were efficiently prepared using a simple preparation method from bis-benzimidazolium precursors featuring highly tunable linkers and wingtips. A highly efficient Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling reaction of aryl chlorides within the range of 0.5–2.0 mol% Pd-catalyst loading was observed. Also, di-ortho-substituted biaryl synthesis was achieved.

Abstract:A rhodium-catalyzed system is introduced for in situ modification of biaryl-type monophosphines with hydrosilanes through a P-III-chelation-assisted dehydrogenative silylation reaction. A series of ligands containing silyl groups with different steric and electronic properties were obtained with excellent regioselectivities. This method offers many advantages, including the use of commercially available phosphines, no requirement for an external ligand or oxidant, a broader substrate scope, high efficiency, and access to a single regioisomer. Based on the outstanding properties of the parent scaffolds, the silyl-substituted phosphines serve as excellent ligands in Pd-catalyzed asymmetric Suzuki coupling reactions.

Abstract:A new palladium catalysis system has been developed for the Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling reactions of heteroaryl bromides in aqueous media. The method allows the preparation of a variety of heterobiaryls in good to excellent yields under mild reaction conditions without the use of phosphine ligands. Silica gel is found to be crucial to the successful performance of the reactions and the catalytic system can be reused eighteen times with high efficiency.

Abstract:The formation of silicon–carbon bonds through the selective coupling of two strong electrophilic bonds has been less developed. We report here silylation reactions that proceed by coupling of strong Si–Cl/C–O bonds in a process that is promoted by chromium catalysis via α-agostic SiH → Cr interactions, allowing the formation of Si–C bonds under ambient conditions. The reactions occur by coupling of inexpensive hydrochlorosilanes with unactivated aryl carboxylic esters to give arylated hydrosilanes, while suppressing the side hydride-mediated reduction of aryl carboxylic esters in achieving high chemoselectivity. In addition to monosilylation, both geminal Si–Cl bonds of hydrodichlorosilanes couple with aryl C–O bonds smoothly to afford two Si–C bonds and achieve double silylations. The formation of disilanes by coupling of hydrochlorosilanes with two C–O bonds of diesters is also described. Experimental and theoretical studies suggest that silylation initiates by reaction of hydrochlorosilane with Cr, in which the α-agostic SiH interaction of the SiH group to Cr stabilizes the related intermediate and transition state, leading to cleavage of the Si–Cl bond by Cr with a low barrier to give silachromate. Further breaking of an unactivated C–O bond with Cr occurs along with the agostic interaction, which may serve as the rate-determining step in silylation. The observation of a normal second-order kinetic isotope effect indicates the effect of the agostic SiH → Cr interaction on the rates of coupling. Because reactive SiH groups of hydrochlorosilanes are retained in silylation, the approach provides a viable strategy to access tetraorganosilane motifs through late-stage hydrofunctionalization.

Abstract:Here, we describe simple B(C6F5)3-catalyzed mono- and dihydrosilylation reactions of terminal alkynes by using a silane-tuned chemoselectivity strategy, affording vinylsilanes and unsymmetrical geminal bis(silanes). This strategy is applicable to the dihydrosilylation of both aliphatic and aryl terminal alkynes with different silane combinations. Gram-scale synthesis and conducting the reaction without the exclusion of air and moisture demonstrate the practicality of this methodology. The synthetic utility of the resulting products was further highlighted by the structural diversification of geminal bis(silanes) through transforming the secondary silane into other silyl groups. Comprehensive theoretical calculations combined with kinetical isotope labeling studies have shown that a prominent kinetic differentiation between the hydrosilylation of alkynes and vinylsilane is responsible for the chemoselective construction of unsymmetrical 1,1-bis(silanes).
