Abstract:Five new NNN pincer-type ligands and their palladium complexes were successfully synthesised and characterised by FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and UV-vis analyses. TEM analysis was used to observe the morphological character of the black residues obtained from the fourth cycle of the reusability test. Furthermore, suitable crystals of the N2,N6-bis(2-tert-butylphenyl)pyridine-2,6-dicarboxamide and its palladium complex were elucidated with the X-ray single crystal diffraction method. Both the ligand and its palladium complex crystallise in a monoclinic system with space group P21/c for the H2L4 and C2/c for the palladium complex. The structure of the pincer ligand and its palladium complex were stabilised by intramolecular and intermolecular C-H⋅⋅⋅O, C-H⋅⋅⋅N, and N-H⋅⋅⋅N contacts. A Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction between aryl halides and phenylboronic acid was used to assess the catalytic abilities of the palladium pincer complexes. All of the prepared complexes exhibited considerable catalytic activity. However, complexes 4 (Acetonitrile-N2,N6-bis(2-tert-butylphenyl)pyridine-2,6-dicarboxamidopalladium(II)) and 5 (Acetonitrile-N2,N6-bis(2-nitrophenyl)pyridine-2,6-dicarboxamidopalladium(II)) provided almost 100% conversion with nearly 100% yield in the reaction between 4-bromotoluene and phenylboronic acid. Furthermore, these active complexes catalysed the reaction of the sterically hindered and deactivated substrates (1-Bromo-4-izobutylbenzene and 2-bromo-6-methoxynaphthalene) with phenylboronic acid, and complete conversion and yields up to 100% were achieved in a short time with the 2-bromo-6-methoxynaphthalene.

Abstract:The Suzuki-Miyaura reaction of aryl bromides with benzeneboronic acid catalyzed by bis(chloro)(2-pyridylquinoxaline)palladium(II) was investigated. The scope of the bis(chloro)(2-pyridylquinoxaline)palladium(II) was determined in toluene at 80 degrees C using KOH as base. Using a 0.1% molar ratio of bis(chloro)(2-pyridylquinoxaline)palladium(II) C1 as a catalyst, aryl bromides reacted with benzeneboronic acid to afford diaryl derivatives in excellent yield. Abstract:Palladium-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling or aryl halides is widely employed in the synthesis of many important molecules in synthetic chemistry, including pharmaceuticals, polymers and functional materials. Herein, we disclose the first palladium-catalyzed decarbonylative Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling of amides for the synthesis of biaryls through the selective activation of the N-C(O) bond of amides. This new method relies on the precise sequence engineering of the catalytic cycle, wherein decarbonylation occurs prior to the transmetallation step. The reaction is compatible with a wide range of boronic acids and amides, providing valuable biaryls in high yields (>60 examples). DFT studies support a mechanism involving oxidative addition, decarbonylation and transmetallation and provide insight into high N-C(O) bond activation selectivity. Most crucially, the reaction establishes the use of palladium catalysis in the biaryl Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling of the amide bond and should enable the design of a wide variety of cross-coupling methods in which palladium rivals the traditional biaryl synthesis from aryl halides and pseudohalides.

Abstract:A new series of xylyl-linked bis-benzimidazolium salts were efficiently prepared using a simple preparation method from bis-benzimidazolium precursors featuring highly tunable linkers and wingtips. A highly efficient Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling reaction of aryl chlorides within the range of 0.5–2.0 mol% Pd-catalyst loading was observed. Also, di-ortho-substituted biaryl synthesis was achieved.

Abstract:Palladium-catalyzed denitrative Suzuki coupling of nitroarenes using 2-aryl-5-(2,4,6-triisopropylphenyl)-2,3-imidazolylidene[1,5-a]pyridines as the ligands is described. The key to success is the use of the NHC ligands which show strong donating ability and suitable steric hindrance allowing the successful oxidative addition of Ar-NO2 bonds. Both aromatic and aliphatic boronic acids are tolerated, and a variety of biphenyls and alkylarenes were obtained in good to excellent yields.

Abstract:Heterogeneous homocoupling reactions of phenylboronic acids were greatly accelerated via Suzuki homocoupling reactions. In this work, a tandem route was designed which firstly one part of phenylboronic acids reacted with iodine to form iodobenzenes, then another part of phenylboronic acids coupled with iodobenzenes to produce biaryl compounds. The tandem reaction were catalyzed by a bifunctional heterogeneous catalyst of metal organic frameworks encapsulated with palladium nanoparticles (). This strategy for forming symmetric C-C bond between benzene rings has obvious advantages such as high efficiency, easy separation, good recyclability and no addition of toxic halogenated benzene.

Abstract:A palladium-catalyzed Suzuki cross-coupling of benzyl ammonium triflates via activation of a Csp 3 –N bond to construct a Csp 3 –Csp 2 bond is described. Various boronic acids can be coupled with a range of benzylamine-derived quaternary ammonium salts in 1:1 molar ratio by the bench-stable N -heterocyclic carbene palladium complex, SIPr-PdCl 2 -Py to afford diarylmethane derivatives. This reaction exhibits a wide substrate scope and functional group tolerance. Direct arylation of benzylamine in a one-pot process and the gram-scale reaction can be performed successfully.

Abstract:Here, we demonstrate palladium-catalyzed Hiyama-type cross-coupling reactions of aryl thianthrenium or phenoxathiinium salts. By employing stable and inexpensive organosilanes, the arylation, alkenylation, and alkynylation were realized in high efficiency using commercially available Pd(tBu3P)2 as the catalyst, thus providing a reliable method for preparation of biaryls, styrenes, and aryl acetylenes with a broad functional group tolerance under mild conditions. Given the accessibility of aryl thianthrenium or phenoxathiinium salts from simple arenes in a remarkable regioselective fashion, this protocol also provides an attractive approach for the late-stage modification of complex bioactive scaffolds.

Abstract:A series of novel benzofuran derivatives containing biaryl moiety were designed and synthesized by the Suzuki cross-coupling reactions. The reactions, performed in the presence of K2CO3, EtOH/H2O and Pd(II) complex as catalyst, gave the corresponding products in good to excellent yields. The methodology allows the facile production of heterobiaryl compounds, a unique architectural motif that is ubiquitous in medicinal chemistry.
