Abstract:Copper(II)-catalyzed synthesis of sulfones from sulfinate salts and aryl halides was investigated by means of a combination of experiment and DFT calculation. Experimental results demonstrated the wide applicability of the title approach. The reaction mechanisms are revealed by in-situ IR and theoretical study. It reveals remarkable ligand effect the bidentate amine plays in the reaction, that is, it initially activats the C-I bond of iodobenzene so as to enhance the whole catalytic process. Abstract:CuI/ethylene diamine/K2CO3/dioxane is shown to be a useful system for the cross coupling reactions of various aryl iodides and bromides with aryl and alkyl alkynes. Compared to the conventional Sonogashira reactions, the new procedure is free of palladium and phosphines.

Abstract:A class of oxalic diamides are found to be effective ligands for promoting CuI-catalyzed aryl amination with less reactive (hetero)aryl chlorides. The reaction proceeds at 120 °C with K3PO4 as the base in DMSO to afford a wide range of (hetero)aryl amines in good to excellent yields. The bis(N-aryl) substituted oxalamides are superior ligands to N-aryl-N′-alkyl substituted or bis(N-alkyl) substituted oxalamides. Both the electronic nature and the steric property of the aromatic rings in ligands are important for their efficiency.

Abstract:A protocol for the copper-catalyzed C–S bond formation between aryl, alkyl, or heteroaryl thiols and aryl or heteroaryl halides is reported. The reaction is catalyzed by Cu2O which shows the highest catalytic activity with ethyl 2-oxocyclohexanecarboxylate ligand in DMSO at 80°C. The corresponding coupling products are obtained with good to excellent yields under relatively mild reaction conditions with good chemoselectivity and functional group tolerance.

Abstract:Herein, we report a copper-catalyzed C-O cross-coupling of N-methoxy amides and arylboronic acids for the synthesis of aryl-N-methoxy arylimides. The fully selective O-arylation of the N-methoxy amides is found to be greatly prompted by the inexpensive and commercially available CuI. The reaction conditions tolerate a variety of functional groups and promote different reactivities depending on the electronic and steric properties of the distorted substrates.

Abstract:A variety of oxazoles can efficiently be prepared, in a single step and in good yield, from primary amides and 1,2-dihaloalkenes using copper-catalysis. This new method allows the re-gioselective formation of a range of substituted oxazoles. The required 1,2-dihaloalkenes can prepared by simple treatment of alkynes with elemental bromine or iodine.
