Abstract:A general,efficient and inexpensive catalyst system for the coupling reaction of aryl iodides and arylamines was studied in this paper.By using 10 mol% of Cu2O as the copper source,15 mol% of dimethylglyoxime as the ligand,K3PO4·3 H2O as the base,and DMF as the solvent,a series of diarylamines were synthesized with moderate yields.

Abstract:A green and efficient catalytic system has been developed for the Cu-catalyzed Ullmann-type C-N coupling reactions in water. With CuI as catalyst, N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-beta-D-glucopyranosylamine as ligand, aryl iodides and aryl bromides bearing various electron-withdrawing and electron-donating groups could be coupled with N-nucleophiles in water with good yields (61%similar to 96%). The catalytic system was expanded successfully to the reaction of indoles with 4-iodoanisole in water.

Abstract:A class of oxalic diamides are found to be effective ligands for promoting CuI-catalyzed aryl amination with less reactive (hetero)aryl chlorides. The reaction proceeds at 120 °C with K3PO4 as the base in DMSO to afford a wide range of (hetero)aryl amines in good to excellent yields. The bis(N-aryl) substituted oxalamides are superior ligands to N-aryl-N′-alkyl substituted or bis(N-alkyl) substituted oxalamides. Both the electronic nature and the steric property of the aromatic rings in ligands are important for their efficiency.

Abstract:The natural compound beta-cyclodextrin supported copper complex (CuI@beta-CD) was prepared and employed as catalyst for an Ullmann-type C-N coupling reaction of N-nucleophiles and aryl halides under mild conditions. Reactions with different substrates were examined, and moderate to excellent yields were obtained. In addition to the high efficiency, the reaction system is also noticeable due to the excellent recoverability and reusability of the catalyst.

Abstract:CuI/ethylene diamine/K2CO3/dioxane is shown to be a useful system for the cross coupling reactions of various aryl iodides and bromides with aryl and alkyl alkynes. Compared to the conventional Sonogashira reactions, the new procedure is free of palladium and phosphines.

Abstract:Couplings between (hetero) aryl chlorides and phenols can be effectively promoted by CuI in combination with an N-aryl-N'-alkyl-substituted oxalamide ligand to proceed smoothly at 120 degrees C. For this process, N-aryl-N'-alkyl-substituted oxalamides are more effective ligands than bis(N-aryl)-substituted oxalamides. Awide range of electron-rich and electron-poor aryl and heteroaryl chlorides gave the corresponding coupling products in good yields. Satisfactory conversions were achieved with electron-rich phenols as well as a limited range of electron-poor phenols. Catalyst and ligand loadings as low as 1.5 mol% are sufficient for the scaled-up variants of some of these reactions.

Abstract:An experimentally simple and inexpensive catalyst system was developed for the amidation of aryl halides by using 0.2-10 mol % of CuI, 5-20 mol % of a 1,2-diamine ligand, and K(3)PO(4), K(2)CO(3), or Cs(2)CO(3) as base. Catalyst systems based on N,N'-dimethylethylenediamine or trans-N,N'-dimethyl-1,2-cyclohexanediamine were found to be the most active even though several other 1,2-diamine ligands could be used in the easiest cases. Aryl iodides, bromides, and in some cases even aryl chlorides can be efficiently amidated. A variety of functional groups are tolerated in the reaction, including many that are not compatible with Pd-catalyzed amidation or amination methodology.

Abstract:An efficient copper-catalyzed tandem oxidation/alpha-formylation reaction of 2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroles in an oxygen atmosphere has been developed. The new reaction is conducted in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), which serves as both the carbonyl carbon source and solvent, in the presence of trifluoroacetic acid to directly generate structurally diverse alpha-formylpyrrole derivatives in one pot in moderate to good yields. Sensitive aldehyde groups remain intact in the presence of an oxidant, trifluoroacetic acid and a transition metal salt. A possible mechanism is presented.

Abstract:Herein, we report a copper-catalyzed C-O cross-coupling of N-methoxy amides and arylboronic acids for the synthesis of aryl-N-methoxy arylimides. The fully selective O-arylation of the N-methoxy amides is found to be greatly prompted by the inexpensive and commercially available CuI. The reaction conditions tolerate a variety of functional groups and promote different reactivities depending on the electronic and steric properties of the distorted substrates.

Abstract:The Suzuki-Miyaura coupling is among the most important C-C bond-forming reactions available due to its reliability, chemoselectivity, and diversity. Aryl halides and pseudohalides such as iodides, bromides, and triflates are traditionally used as the electrophilic coupling partner. The expansion of the reaction scope to nontraditional electrophiles is an ongoing challenge to enable an even greater number of useful products to be made from simple starting materials. Herein, we present how an NHC-based Pd catalyst can enable Suzuki-Miyaura coupling where the C(acyl)-O bond of aryl esters takes on the role of electrophile, allowing the synthesis of various ketone-containing products. This contrasts known reactions of similar esters that provide biaryls via nickel catalysis. The underlying cause of this mechanistic divergence is investigated by DFT calculations, and the robustness of esters compared to more electrophilic acylative coupling partners is analyzed.

Abstract:A protocol for the copper-catalyzed C–S bond formation between aryl, alkyl, or heteroaryl thiols and aryl or heteroaryl halides is reported. The reaction is catalyzed by Cu2O which shows the highest catalytic activity with ethyl 2-oxocyclohexanecarboxylate ligand in DMSO at 80°C. The corresponding coupling products are obtained with good to excellent yields under relatively mild reaction conditions with good chemoselectivity and functional group tolerance.

Abstract:By using CuI as the catalyst and l-Proline as the ligand, the Ullmann-type coupling reactions of aryl/heteroaryl bromides and imidazoles in [Bmim]BF4 at 105–115°C gave the corresponding N-arylimidazoles/N-heteroarylimidazoles in good yields. The system offers a convenient, recyclable, and environmentally benign method for these coupling reactions.
