Abstract:CuI/ethylene diamine/K2CO3/dioxane is shown to be a useful system for the cross coupling reactions of various aryl iodides and bromides with aryl and alkyl alkynes. Compared to the conventional Sonogashira reactions, the new procedure is free of palladium and phosphines.

Abstract:A green and efficient catalytic system has been developed for the Cu-catalyzed Ullmann-type C-N coupling reactions in water. With CuI as catalyst, N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-beta-D-glucopyranosylamine as ligand, aryl iodides and aryl bromides bearing various electron-withdrawing and electron-donating groups could be coupled with N-nucleophiles in water with good yields (61%similar to 96%). The catalytic system was expanded successfully to the reaction of indoles with 4-iodoanisole in water.

Abstract:Methods toward the dimerization and homocoupling of terminal alkynes have been established that employ Co complexes along with tBuOK under different atmosphere. A variety of Z-1,3-enynes were furnished with a high Z:E (up to 93:7) ratio in moderate to very good yields under inert atmosphere. Alternatively, the Glaser homocoupling reaction of terminal alkynes was also accomplished with a Co catalyst, successfully affording various 1,3-diynes in excellent yields (up to 93%) under oxygen.

Abstract:CuI-nanoparticles-catalyzed cyanation of aryl bromides under mild conditions has been developed with K4[Fe(CN)6]as the cyanation reagent using water as the solvent in the presence of KI and N,N'-dimethylethyl-enediamine.This method was applicable to a wide range of substrates and more economical and environmentally friendly.

Abstract:Despite the success of Sonogashira coupling for the synthesis of arylalkynes and conjugated enynes, the engagement of unactivated alkyl halides in such reactions remains historically challenging. We report herein a strategy that merges Cu-catalyzed alkyne transfer with the aryl radical activation of carbon–halide bonds to enable a general approach for the coupling of alkyl iodides with terminal alkynes. This unprecedented Sonogashira-type cross-coupling reaction tolerates a broad range of functional groups and has been applied to the late-stage cross-coupling of densely functionalized pharmaceutical agents as well as the synthesis of positron emission tomography tracers.

Abstract:The Suzuki-Miyaura coupling is among the most important C-C bond-forming reactions available due to its reliability, chemoselectivity, and diversity. Aryl halides and pseudohalides such as iodides, bromides, and triflates are traditionally used as the electrophilic coupling partner. The expansion of the reaction scope to nontraditional electrophiles is an ongoing challenge to enable an even greater number of useful products to be made from simple starting materials. Herein, we present how an NHC-based Pd catalyst can enable Suzuki-Miyaura coupling where the C(acyl)-O bond of aryl esters takes on the role of electrophile, allowing the synthesis of various ketone-containing products. This contrasts known reactions of similar esters that provide biaryls via nickel catalysis. The underlying cause of this mechanistic divergence is investigated by DFT calculations, and the robustness of esters compared to more electrophilic acylative coupling partners is analyzed.

Abstract:A class of oxalic diamides are found to be effective ligands for promoting CuI-catalyzed aryl amination with less reactive (hetero)aryl chlorides. The reaction proceeds at 120 °C with K3PO4 as the base in DMSO to afford a wide range of (hetero)aryl amines in good to excellent yields. The bis(N-aryl) substituted oxalamides are superior ligands to N-aryl-N′-alkyl substituted or bis(N-alkyl) substituted oxalamides. Both the electronic nature and the steric property of the aromatic rings in ligands are important for their efficiency.

Abstract:The Sonogashira cross coupling between the monocarborane cluster 12-ethynylmonocarba-closo-dodecaborate [CB11H11-12-CCH]- and bromoarenes under Pd catalysis has been developed, providing access to aryl carboranyl alkynes in yields of 42-95%. The transformations proceed under mild conditions and with high functional group tolerance using commercially available coupling partners. X-ray structural analyses and the identification of an unusual phosphonium zwitterion byproduct are reported as well.

Abstract:A highly efficient method for the synthesis of tri-aryl-substituted allenes has been developed through Cu(I)-catalyzed coupling of diaryldiazomethanes with terminal alkynes. The reaction is under mild conditions and uses simple and inexpensive CuI as the catalyst. Mechanistically, the reaction follows a pathway involving Cu(I) carbene migratory insertion.

Abstract:A protocol for the copper-catalyzed C–S bond formation between aryl, alkyl, or heteroaryl thiols and aryl or heteroaryl halides is reported. The reaction is catalyzed by Cu2O which shows the highest catalytic activity with ethyl 2-oxocyclohexanecarboxylate ligand in DMSO at 80°C. The corresponding coupling products are obtained with good to excellent yields under relatively mild reaction conditions with good chemoselectivity and functional group tolerance.

Abstract:An efficient palladium-catalyzed copper-free Sonogashira reaction in water and acetone has been developed under mild conditions. The results showed that the aryl iodides could carry out the cross-coupling reaction with a variety of terminal alkynes in high yields in water-acetone in the absence of amine, copper(l) salts, or phosphine ligands at 60 degrees C for one hour, and good yields were obtained for aryl bromides at 60 degrees C for 12-24 hours in the presence of triphenylphosphine and piperidine. The method could be used to synthesize polyethynyl aromatic compounds in a one-pot reaction.

Abstract:Efficient palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions of alpha-diazocarbonyl compounds and arylboronic acids or aryl halides have been developed. The reaction proceeds smoothly for a range of diazo compounds, boronic acids, and halides. The coupling reaction conditions tolerate various substituents on the aromatic rings of the substrates, such as chloro, fluoro, acyl, oxo, ester, and nitro groups. This coupling reaction constitutes a novel access to alpha-aryl-substituted alpha,beta-unsaturated carbonyl compounds. Mechanistically, palladium-carbene is supposed to be the key intermediate; its formation is followed by migratory insertion of an aryl group to the carbenic carbon of the palladium-carbene complex and subsequent beta-hydride elimination. Kinetic isotope effect (KIE) data measured for intra- and intermolecular competition experiments suggest that beta-hydride elimination is not involved in the rate-determining step.
