Abstract:A series Of V2O5-TiO2 (VT) catalysts with V2O5 Contents from 15 to 75 wt% were prepared by the co-precipitation method and doped with SO42- ions. The structural properties were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy (LRS) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The surface acidity was determined by the techniques of NH3 adsorption microcalorimetry and pyridine adsorption infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Isopropanol (IPA) and methanol probe reactions in the presence Of O-2 were employed to provide the information about surface acidity and redox properties simultaneously. The results from XRD and LRS showed that V2O5 was well dispersed on the surface of TiO2 when the vanadia content was below 25 wt%. XPS showed that both vanadium and titanium were present in their fully oxidized states in all the samples. The SO42- doped VT samples had the sulfur oxidation state of +6. The results of NH3 adsorption microcalorimetry and pyridine adsorption FT-IR indicated that the VT catalysts possessed identical surface acid densities independently of the V2O5 content, and that both Bronsted and Lewis acid sites were present on their surfaces. The results of isopropanol probe and methanol oxidation reactions suggested that the surface acidity of VT catalysts was improved upon SO42- doping, as evidenced by the simultaneous decrease in the amounts of oxidation products and increase in the amounts of dehydration products. A high selectivity of 90% to dimethoxymethane (DMM) was measured on the SO42- modified 25% V2O5-75% TiO2 catalyst, with 54% conversion of methanol at 413 K. (c) 2007 Published by Elsevier B.V.

Abstract:Vanadium‑titanium based selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalysts are commercially applied for the denitrification of nitrogen oxides (NO x ) in flue gas. Meanwhile, they are also catalytically effective to the abatements of many contaminants including carbon monoxide (CO) catalytic oxidation. Understanding the catalytic performance on CO oxidation is of great significance to develop modified SCR catalysts for the synergetic control of nitrogen oxides and CO. Two SCR catalyst models were constructed, i.e., V2O5/TiO2(001) and V2O5-WO3/TiO2(001). The mechanisms of CO oxidation over the above two catalyst surfaces were analyzed by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The results show that the whole oxidation cycle of CO includes two reaction stages. In the first stage, CO reacts with terminal oxygen of VO site, following MvK mechanism, which is also the rate-determining step of the whole reaction process. In the second stage, the redundant oxygen Oe of the absorbed O2 molecule reacts with another CO molecule, which follows E-R mechanism. The activation energy barriers of the CO oxidation on V2O5/TiO2 surface are lower than those on V2O5-WO3/TiO2, indicating that WO3 doping inhibits CO oxidation. Moreover, the established reaction kinetics of elementary reactions would be helpful to model CO catalytic oxidation over the real SCR catalysts.

Abstract:The core-shell Fe2O3@TiO2 and FeTiOx mixed oxide catalysts were prepared to explore the effect of the core-shell structure on the catalytic oxidation of CO under a high concentration of SO2. The core-shell structure helped inhibit the sintering of nanoparticles and enabled Fe2O3@TiO2 to share a larger specific surface area, pore size and more active chemisorbed oxygen species than FeTiOx, promoting the CO catalytic performance. FeTiOx and Fe2O3@TiO2 reached 84% and 96% conversion efficiency in the flue gas containing 1000 ppm CO at 300 °C. When SO2 was added to the flue gas, the CO conversion efficiency of FeTiOx dropped to about 10% after 5 h, while Fe2O3@TiO2 still achieved 60% CO conversion efficiency. The TiO2 shell of Fe2O3@TiO2 reacted with SO2 to protect the inner active sites from exposure to SO2, while the FeTiOx surface without shell protection was deposited by ferric sulfate and deactivated. Although the amount of sulfate on Fe2O3@TiO2 was larger than that on FeTiOx, the poor thermal stability of titanic sulfate made it decompose more easily than ferric sulfate. Therefore, the core-shell structure showed a critical role in promoting the resistance to SO2-poisoning of Fe2O3@TiO2 in CO catalytic oxidation.

Abstract:Multicomponent reactions such as ammoxidation are highly desirable for chemical synthesis. The complicated reaction network and catalytic active sites involved, however, make it rather challenging for extensive structure-performance relationship investigations and subsequent rational design of an efficient catalyst. In this work, efficient VOx/TiO2 catalysts with concise components and exquisite structure design demonstrated 95% selectivity at 98% conversion under 2070 h(-1) for 3-picoline ammoxidation. After clarifying that the oxidative dehydrogenation process is rate-limiting, we assumed that the abundance of reactive surface lattice oxygen at the interface of vanadium-titanium is the key to high productivity and suppression of oxidation side reactions since low reaction temperature is beneficial for enlarging the difference in rates of different energy barriers. In addition, rather than applying the traditional neutralization method with alkaline components, in situ formed V2O5 crystallite was subtly to cover the strong acid sites on VOx/TiO2 catalysts in that the strong adsorption of pyridine nitrogen in 3-cyanopyridine on strong acid sites can lead to severe hydrolysis side reactions.

Abstract:Surface morphology of fresh and K2SO4-doped V2O5/TiO2 catalysts was analyzed systemically by means of XRD and XPS.The results showed that the doped K2SO4 had no significant influence on the action between V and Ti.The doped K2SO4 could make the concentration of V and Ti decrease and V5+ disappear at the catalysts'surface.It was found that there was the strong action between K and lattice oxygen in vanadyl species.

Abstract:SO2 shows a significant promoting effect on the activity of Sn0.5Ti0.5O2 solid solution catalyst for NO reduction with CO at 350 degreesC. The mechanism of the promotion was studied by transient techniques combined with reaction test, XRD, XPS and TPD methods. The XPS analysis proves the existence of surface sulfur species, which was formed during the CO-SO2 or CO-SO2-NO reaction. It was suggested that the surface sulfur weakened the N - O bond and promoted its split hence promoted NO reduction. Therefore, surface S is one of the more importance active site for NO reduction in the SO2-NO-CO reaction. The mechanism Of SO2 promoted NO reduction by CO was proposed.

Abstract:Understanding the structure-activity relationship of Mn-based oxide catalysts is of great importance for the rational development of highly performance catalysts for VOCs catalytic oxidation. However, the knowledge of the electronic structure-catalytic oxidation activity relationship over Mn-based oxide catalysts is still limited. Herein, we investigated the typical Mn x O y (Mn 3 O 4 , MnO 2 , and Mn 2 O 3 ) with different valence electronic structures by using various characterizations and DFT calculations. The MnO 2 exhibits superior intrinsic activities ( R S , 1.14×10 −9 mol·m −2 ·s −1 ) when compared with Mn 3 O 4 (0.54×10 −9 mol·m −2 ·s −1 ) and Mn 2 O 3 (0.45×10 −9 mol·m −2 ·s −1 ) for toluene catalytic oxidation. The solid experimental and DFT calculation results show that the d -band center of Mn determines the intrinsic activity. The superior catalytic oxidation activity of MnO 2 can be attributed to its higher d -band center (-1.03 eV) in comparison with that of Mn 3 O 4 (-1.25 eV) and Mn 2 O 3 (-1.59 eV). The higher d -band center can weaken the surface Mn-O bonds strength ( k = 290.9 N/m) and strengthen the gaseous O 2 adsorption simultaneously, then enhancing the mobility of surface lattice oxygen and the amount of adsorbed oxygen species. This work firstly reveals the intrinsic relationship between catalytic oxidation activity and d electronic structure over Mn-based oxide catalysts and provides knowledge that will advance the design of high-performance catalysts for catalytic oxidation.

Abstract:The reaction characteristics of the SO 2 oxidation catalyst by the catalyst preparation method were analyzed by investigating the catalyst properties on the TiO 2 support using a vanadium-alkali (K) compound containing the catalyst. The slurry mix method and the dry ball milling method were used for the production of the catalyst. In this process, the difference in interaction between the active material (V) and the support (TiO 2 ) has been confirmed. Especially, the high proportion of non-stoichiometric species of the initial catalyst reflects the high interaction between vanadium and TiO 2 . Therefore, an increase in non-stoichiometric species such as V 4+ indicates an increase in the interaction between TiO 2 and V 2 O 5 . In particular, the interaction between the support-active material improves the transfer of SO 2 adsorbed on the support TiO 2 to the active material (V 2 O 5 ). Therefore, it induces the production of a high proportion of the active substance (V V O) 2 O(SO 4 ) 4 4− and consequently increases the SO 2 oxidation performance.

Abstract:The V_2O_5-WO_3/TiO_2 honeycomb monolith catalyst was prepared by extrusion method,after which the effect of pore-forming agent and calcination temperature on its pore structure and activity was analyzed,the effect of H_2O and SO_2 on activity of catalyst was studied.Results show that the pore-forming agent can effectively improve the pore structure,optimum pore structures are produced at 0.5% pore-forming agent,when the pore volume of catalysts in pore diameters of 1-5 nm is raised,hence relevant reaction rate is promoted. Surface area and crystal form,influenced by calcination temperature,play an important role on reaction rate of formed catalyst,of which the surface area will have a linear relationship with its first-order rate constant if it is in an anatase structure.The catalyst with calcination temperature of 550 ℃ has the greatest surface area and the strongest activity;NO_x conversion rate may reach above 98% when the space velocity is 4 500 h~-1 and the temperature is in range of 300-400 ℃;moreover,the catalyst has still high activity and the NO_x conversion rate can reach 99%,under conditions of 10%H_2O and 0.1%SO_2.

Abstract:The V2O5/TiO2 based selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalysts possess not only promising capability on the denitrification of nitrogen oxides (NOx), but also certain effects on the oxidation of carbon monoxide (CO) in the flue gas. Modification of traditional SCR catalysts with certain transition metals can further improve their catalytic oxidation ability of CO. Therefore, it is of great significance to reveal the catalytic oxidation mechanism of CO for developing modified SCR catalysts to achieve the co-removal of CO and NOx. Theoretical calculations based on density functional theory (DFT) were performed to probe the comprehensive reaction mechanism of CO oxidation on M doped V2O5/TiO2 catalysts (M = Mo, Fe, and Co). The whole CO oxidation cycles include three stages, i.e., the first CO oxidation, the re-oxidation of the surface, and the second CO oxidation. The terminal oxygen and the surface oxygen formed by the adsorbed O2 all play vital roles in the whole CO oxidation cycles. The activation barriers of the rate-determining steps for CO oxidation on Fe-V2O5/TiO2 and Co-V2O5/TiO2 are much lower than that of Mo-V2O5/TiO2, which indicates Fe and Co dopants can apparently promote the CO oxidation activities of the modified SCR catalysts. Meanwhile, the electronic structure analysis confirms that Fe and Co dopants can cause electron distribution change with strong oxidation ability at the active oxygen sites.

Abstract:Manganese oxide (especially manganese dioxide [MnO2]) is an excellent catalytic material for SO2 removal in flue gas desulfurization. In this study, the effect of crystalline structure of MnO2 (α-MnO2, β-MnO2, γ-MnO2 and δ-MnO2) on their activity for SO2 oxidation was studied based on density functional theory with Hubbard U corrections (DFT + U). The calculated results showed that α-MnO2 has mild energy barriers of 0.69 eV and 0.46 eV, and β-MnO2 has poor redox performance on SO2 molecules, which has the highest energy barrier of 2.17 eV and the largest oxygen formation energy of 1.74 eV, making it difficult for the oxygen atom to remove from the surface lattice to form reactive sites. Thermodynamic calculations showed that α-MnO2 is suitable for SO2 oxidation for its low energy barriers, reaction energy close to zero in the first half, and relatively high spontaneity in the whole reaction. Experimental tests showed that α-MnO2 had the best catalytic oxidation effect, with the highest sulfur capacity (304.11 mg/g), but β-MnO2 had poor catalytic oxidation performance, with a sulfur capacity of 41.59 mg/g. This work studies the catalytic performance and mechanism of SO2 removal and proposes a strategy to improve the catalytic activity by phase structure.

Abstract:The structure and catalytic properties of SrTiO3 perovskite-type oxide catalysts for oxidative coupling of methane (OCM) have been studied by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and microreactor tests. It has been shown that OCM catalytic properties of SrTiO3 catalysts are correlated to the Sr/Ti atomic ratio. Increasing Sr/Ti ratio in the perovskite-type SrTiO3 catalysts results in the surface enrichment of Sr element, leading to the the higher content of adsorbed oxygen species on the surface of catalysts and thus higher C-2 selectivity for OCM reaction.

Abstract:Catalytic combustion is the state-of-the-art technology for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) elimination and the supported platinum is generally regarded as one of the most desirable industrial catalysts. The crystal structure of support strongly influences the electronic properties of Pt species and thus catalytic combustion performance. Herein, we systematically investigated the influence of TiO2 with different crystalline forms (anatase, rutile, and brookite) on toluene catalytic combustion in Pt/TiO2 catalyst. The results found that the rutile TiO2-supported Pt catalyst exhibits the best activity, followed by anatase-supported and brookite-supported Pt. Detailed characterization further revealed the electron transfer driven by Pt-rutile TiO2 electronic interaction, not only facilitated the formation of reactive Pt0 nanoparticles but also stabilized the Pt0 species during catalytic combustion. The Pt0 species in rutile TiO2-supported Pt catalyst promoted the chemisorption of oxygen and accordingly resulted in outstanding catalytic activity for toluene combustion. This work offers new insights into the Pt-TiO2 electronic interaction, providing a practical guide for developing highly efficient Pt-based catalyst for VOCs combustion.
