Abstract:By investigating the properties of Hellinger-Toeplitz topologies, we establish a general version of Kalton's closed graph theorem. From this general version, we deduce a number of new closed graph theorems, which are convenient for application. Particularly we improve some results of Kalton.

Abstract:By introducing the notions of L-spaces and Lr-spaces, a complete generalization of Kalton‘s closed graph theorem is obtained. It points out the class of Lr-spaces is the maximal class of range spaces for the closed graph theorem when the class of domain spaces is the class of Mackey spaces with weakly * sequentially complete dual.

Abstract:The famous Antosik-Mikusinski convergent theorem on the Abel topological groups has very extensive applications in measure theory, summation theory and other analysis fields. In this paper, we establish the theorem on a class of effect algebras equipped with the ideal topology. This paper shows also that the ideal topology of effect algebras is a useful topology in studying the quantum logic theory.

Abstract:In this note, we prove a certain hypergraph generalization of the Balog-Szemeredi-Gowers Theorem. Our result shares some features in common with a similar such generalizsation due to Sudakov, Szemeredi and Vu, though the conclusion of our result is somewhat different.
Topological Drawings meet Classical Theorems from Convex Geometry

Abstract:In this article we discuss classical theorems from Convex Geometry in the context of topological drawings and beyond. In a simple topological drawing of the complete graph $K_n$, any two edges share at most one point: either a common vertex or a point where they cross. Triangles of simple topological drawings can be viewed as convex sets. This gives a link to convex geometry. As our main result, we present a generalization of Kirchberger's Theorem that is of purely combinatorial nature. It turned out that this classical theorem also applies to "generalized signotopes" - a combinatorial generalization of simple topological drawings, which we introduce and investigate in the course of this article. As indicated by the name they are a generalization of signotopes, a structure studied in the context of encodings for arrangements of pseudolines. We also present a family of simple topological drawings with arbitrarily large Helly number, and a new proof of a topological generalization of Carathéodory's Theorem in the plane and discuss further classical theorems from Convex Geometry in the context of simple topological drawings.

Generalizations of Koga's version of the Wiener-Ikehara theorem

Abstract:We establish new versions of the Wiener-Ikehara theorem where only boundary assumptions on the real part of the Laplace transform are imposed. Our results generalize and improve a recent theorem of T. Koga [J. Fourier Anal. Appl. 27 (2021), Article No. 18]. As an application, we give a quick Tauberian proof of Blackwell's renewal theorem.

Abstract:We provide a new proof of a theorem of Hell and Nešetřil [J. Comb. Theory B, 48(1):92-110, 1990] using tools from topological combinatorics based on ideas of Lovász [J. Comb. Theory, Ser. A, 25(3):319-324, 1978]. The Hell-Nešetřil Theorem provides a dichotomy of the graph homomorphism problem. It states that deciding whether there is a graph homomorphism from a given graph to a fixed graph $H$ is in P if $H$ is bipartite (or contains a self-loop), and is NP-complete otherwise. In our proof we combine topological combinatorics with the algebraic approach to constraint satisfaction problem.

On the Second Kahn--Kalai Conjecture

Abstract:For any given graph $H$, we are interested in $p_\mathrm{crit}(H)$, the minimal $p$ such that the Erdős-Rényi graph $G(n,p)$ contains a copy of $H$ with probability at least $1/2$. Kahn and Kalai (2007) conjectured that $p_\mathrm{crit}(H)$ is given up to a logarithmic factor by a simpler "subgraph expectation threshold" $p_\mathrm{E}(H)$, which is the minimal $p$ such that for every subgraph $H'\subseteq H$, the Erdős-Rényi graph $G(n,p)$ contains \emph{in expectation} at least $1/2$ copies of $H'$. It is trivial that $p_\mathrm{E}(H) \le p_\mathrm{crit}(H)$, and the so-called "second Kahn-Kalai conjecture" states that $p_\mathrm{crit}(H) \lesssim p_\mathrm{E}(H) \log e(H)$ where $e(H)$ is the number of edges in $H$. In this article, we present a natural modification $p_\mathrm{E, new}(H)$ of the Kahn--Kalai subgraph expectation threshold, which we show is sandwiched between $p_\mathrm{E}(H)$ and $p_\mathrm{crit}(H)$. The new definition $p_\mathrm{E, new}(H)$ is based on the simple observation that if $G(n,p)$ contains a copy of $H$ and $H$ contains \emph{many} copies of $H'$, then $G(n,p)$ must also contain \emph{many} copies of $H'$. We then show that $p_\mathrm{crit}(H) \lesssim p_\mathrm{E, new}(H) \log e(H)$, thus proving a modification of the second Kahn--Kalai conjecture. The bound follows by a direct application of the set-theoretic "spread" property, which led to recent breakthroughs in the sunflower conjecture by Alweiss, Lovett, Wu and Zhang and the first fractional Kahn--Kalai conjecture by Frankston, Kahn, Narayanan and Park.

Locally common graphs

Abstract:Goodman proved that the sum of the number of triangles in a graph on n n nodes and its complement is at least n3∕24 n3\unicode{x02215}24 ; in other words, this sum is minimized, asymptotically, by a random graph with edge density 1/2. Erdős conjectured that a similar inequality will hold for K4 K4 in place of K3 K3 , but this was disproved by Thomason. But an analogous statement does hold for some other graphs, which are called common graphs. Characterization of common graphs seems, however, out of reach. Franek and Rödl proved that K4 K4 is common in a weaker, local sense. Using the language of graph limits, we study two versions of locally common graphs. We sharpen a result of Jagger, Štovíček and Thomason by showing that no graph containing K4 K4 can be locally common, but prove that all such graphs are weakly locally common. We also show that not all connected graphs are weakly locally common.

Abstract: Komlos [Komlos: Tiling Turan Theorems, Combinatorica, 2000] determined the asymptotically optimal minimum-degree condition for covering a given proportion of vertices of a host graph by vertex-disjoint copies of a fixed graph H, thus essentially extending the Hajnal-Szemeredi theorem which deals with the case when H is a clique. We give a proof of a graphon version of Komlos's theorem. To prove this graphon version, and also to deduce from it the original statement about finite graphs, we use the machinery introduced in [Hladky, Hu, Piguet: Tilings in graphons, arXiv:1606.03113]. We further prove a stability version of Komlos's theorem.

A Generalized Lévy-Khintchine Theorem

Abstract:The famous Lévy-Khintchine theorem is a beautiful limiting law for the denominators of the convergents of the continued fraction expansion of a real number. In a recent breakthrough, Cheung and Chevallier (Annales scientifiques de l'ENS, 2024) extended this theorem to higher dimensions. In this paper, we consider multiple generalizations of the definition of the best approximates of a matrix and prove analogues of the Lévy-Khintchine theorem for all these generalizations. A special case of our theorem answers a question posed by Cheung and Chevallier about Lévy-Khintchine type theorems for arbitrary norms. Another notable instance of our results resolves a conjecture of Yitwah Cheung. While our findings are new for higher dimensions, even in the one-dimensional case our work is a significant improvement over available results. Notably, we extend the results of Cheung and Chevallier by proving their theorems for any Birkhoff generic point and by permitting the best approximates to satisfy additional geometric and arithmetic conditions. Moreover, our main theorem, from which the above results follow, also extends the recent work of Shapira and Weiss.

Abstract:In 1977, Hoffman gave a characterization of graphs with smallest eigenvalue at least −2. In this paper we generalize this result to graphs with smaller smallest eigenvalue. For the proof, we use a combinatorial object named Hoffman graph, introduced by Woo and Neumaier in 1995. Our result says that for every λ≤−2, if a graph with smallest eigenvalue at least λ satisfies some local conditions, then it is highly structured. We apply our result to graphs which are cospectral with the Hamming graph H(3,q), the Johnson graph J(v,3) and the 2-clique extension of grids, respectively.
When Joints Meet Extremal Graph Theory: Hypergraph Joints

Abstract:The Kruskal--Katona theorem determines the maximum number of $d$-cliques in an $n$-edge $(d-1)$-uniform hypergraph. A generalization of the theorem was proposed by Bollobás and Eccles, called the partial shadow problem. The problem asks to determine the maximum number of $r$-sets of vertices that contain at least $d$ edges in an $n$-edge $(d-1)$-uniform hypergraph. In our previous work, we obtained an asymptotically tight upper bound via its connection to the joints problem, a problem in incidence geometry. In a different direction, Friedgut and Kahn generalized the Kruskal--Katona theorem by determining the maximum number of copies of any fixed hypergraph in an $n$-edge hypergraph, up to a multiplicative factor. In this paper, using the connection to the joints problem again, we generalize our previous work to show an analogous partial shadow phenomenon for any hypergraph, generalizing Friedgut and Kahn's result. The key idea is to encode the graph-theoretic problem with new kinds of joints that we call hypergraph joints. Our main theorem is a generalization of the joints theorem that upper bounds the number of hypergraph joints, which the partial shadow phenomenon immediately follows from. In addition, with an appropriate notion of multiplicities, our theorem also generalizes a generalization of Hölder's inequality considered by Finner.

Quasi-transitive $K_\infty$-minor free graphs

Abstract:We prove that every locally finite quasi-transitive graph that does not contain $K_\infty$ as a minor is quasi-isometric to some planar quasi-transitive locally finite graph. This solves a problem of Esperet and Giocanti and improves their recent result that such graphs are quasi-isometric to some planar graph of bounded degree.

Abstract:Minors play a key role in graph theory, and extremal problems on forbidding minors have attracted appreciable amount of interest in the past decades. In this paper, we focus on spectral extrema of K s , t-minor free graphs, and determine extremal graphs with maximum spectral radius over all K s , t-minor free graphs of sufficiently large order. This generalizes and improves several previous results. For t ≥ s ≥ 2, our result completely solves Tait's conjecture. For t ≥ s = 1, our result gives a spectral analogue of a theorem due to Ding, Johnson and Seymour, which determines the maximum number of edges in K 1 , t-minor free connected graphs. Some spectral and structural tools, such as, local edge maximality, local degree sequence majorization and double eigenvectors transformation, are used to characterize structural properties of extremal graphs.
