Abstract:In this note, we prove a certain hypergraph generalization of the Balog-Szemeredi-Gowers Theorem. Our result shares some features in common with a similar such generalizsation due to Sudakov, Szemeredi and Vu, though the conclusion of our result is somewhat different.

Abstract:Boesch’s theorem says that “Suppose that a connected graph G has two non-adjacent 2-degree vertices u1 and u2. Then t(G)≤t(G/{u1,u2}), where t(G) is the number of spanning trees of G.” In this paper, we generalize this theorem as follows: “Suppose that G is a connected graph of order at least 3, and that u1 and u2 are two vertices of degree m and n, respectively, in G. Then t(G)≤mn−m02m+n−2m0t(G/{u1,u2}), where m0(≥0) is the number of multiple edges between u1 and u2.”

Abstract:In 1970,R.L.Graham asked if the following is true: Let A be a finite sequence of n different positive integers a_i,1≤i≤n.Then(max)i,ja_i(a_i,a_j)≥n.Many number theorists have studied the problem.In 1996,this old conjecture though long and complicated,was proved correct in an outstandingly original by Balasubramanian and Soundararajan.Recently,Granville and Roesler conjectured that the largest element of the set agcd(a,b),bgcd(a,b),a∈A,b∈B is≥min(|A|,(|B|)),which generalizes Graham's conjecture.In this paper the conjecture is verified when both A and B have a prime.

Abstract:We prove that every additive set $A$ with energy $E(A)\ge |A|^3/K$ has a subset $A'\subseteq A$ of size $|A'|\ge (1-\varepsilon)K^{-1/2}|A|$ such that $|A'-A'|\le O_\varepsilon(K^{4}|A'|)$. This is, essentially, the largest structured set one can get in the Balog-Szemerédi-Gowers theorem.

Abstract:In [41] Okuyama and Sakai gave a conjectural equality for the higher genus generalized Brézin--Gross--Witten (BGW) free energies. In a recent work [46] we established the Hodge-BGW correspondence on the relationship between certain special cubic Hodge integrals and the generalized BGW correlators, and a proof of the Okuyama--Sakai conjecture was also given ${\it ibid}$. In this paper, we give a new proof of the Okuyama--Sakai conjecture by a further application of the Dubrovin--Zhang theory for the KdV hierarchy.

A General Blue-Shift Phenomenon

Abstract:In chromatic homotopy theory, there is a well-known conjecture called blue-shift phenomenon (BSP). In this paper, we propose a general blue-shift phenomenon (GBSP) which unifies BSP and a new variant of BSP introduced by Balmer-Sanders under one framework. To explain GBSP, we use the roots of $p^j$-series of the formal group law of a complex-oriented spectrum $E$ in the homotopy group of the generalized Tate spectrum of $E$. We also incorporate the relationship between roots and coefficients of a polynomial in any commutative ring. With this fresh perspective, we successfully achieve our goal of explaining GBSP for certain abelian cases. Additionally, we establish that the generalized Tate construction lowers Bousfield class, along with numerous Tate vanishing results. These findings strengthen and extend previous theorems of Balmer-Sanders and Ando-Morava-Sadofsky. While our approach only reproduces a result of Barthel-Hausmann-Naumann-Nikolaus-Noel-Stapleton, it appears to be more accessible for dealing with GBSP in non-abelian cases. Furthermore, our approach simplifies the original proof of a result of Bonventre-Guillou-Stapleton, indicating that its applications are not limited to GBSP. As a result, our approach holds significant promise and merits further study and application.

Abstract:Given a finite group G acting freely on a compact metric space M , and , we define the G -Borsuk graph on M by drawing edges whenever there is a non-identity such that . We show that when is small, its chromatic number is determined by the topology of M via its G -covering number, which is the minimum k such that there is a closed cover with for all . We are interested in bounding this number. We give lower bounds using G -actions on Hom-complexes, and upper bounds using a recursive formula on the dimension of M . We conjecture that the true chromatic number coincides with the lower bound, and give computational evidence. We also study random G -Borsuk graphs, which are random induced subgraphs. For these, we compute thresholds for that guarantee that the chromatic number is still that of the whole G -Borsuk graph. Our results are tight (up to a constant) when the G -index and dimension of M coincide.

Some variants of the generalized Borel Theorem and applications

Abstract:In the first part of this paper, we establish some results around generalized Borel's Theorem. As an application, in the second part, we construct example of smooth surface of degree $d\geq 19$ in $\mathbb{CP}^3$ whose complements is hyperbolically embedded in $\mathbb{CP}^3$. This improves the previous construction of Shirosaki where the degree bound $d=31$ was gave. In the last part, for a Fermat-Waring type hypersurface $D$ in $\mathbb{CP}^n$ defined by the homogeneous polynomial \[ \sum_{i=1}^m h_i^d, \] where $m,n,d$ are positive integers with $m\geq 3n-1$ and $d\geq m^2-m+1$, where $h_i$ are homogeneous generic linear forms on $\mathbb{C}^{n+1}$, for a nonconstant holomorphic function $f\colon\mathbb{C}\rightarrow\mathbb{CP}^n$ whose image is not contained in the support of $D$, we establish a Second Main Theorem type estimate: \[ \big(d-m(m-1)\big)\,T_f(r)\leq N_f^{[m-1]}(r,D)+S_f(r). \] This quantifies the hyperbolicity result due to Shiffman-Zaidenberg and Siu-Yeung.

Abstract:A result of Gyárfás [12] exactly determines the size of a largest monochromatic component in an arbitrary -colouring of the complete -uniform hypergraph when and . We prove a result which says that if one replaces in Gyárfás' theorem by any 'expansive' -uniform hypergraph on vertices (that is, a -uniform hypergraph on vertices in which for all disjoint sets with for all ), then one gets a largest monochromatic component of essentially the same size (within a small error term depending on and ). As corollaries we recover a number of known results about large monochromatic components in random hypergraphs and random Steiner triple systems, often with drastically improved bounds on the error terms. Gyárfás' result is equivalent to the dual problem of determining the smallest possible maximum degree of an arbitrary -partite -uniform hypergraph with edges in which every set of edges has a common intersection. In this language, our result says that if one replaces the condition that every set of edges has a common intersection with the condition that for every collection of disjoint sets with , there exists such that , then the smallest possible maximum degree of is essentially the same (within a small error term depending on and ). We prove our results in this dual setting.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove a combination theorem for a relatively acylindrical graph of relatively hyperbolic groups (Theorem 1.1). Here, we are extending the technique of [Tom21] and constructing Bowditch boundary of the fundamental group of graph of groups. Suppose G(Y) is a graph of relatively hyperbolic groups such that edge groups are relatively quasi-convex in adjacent vertex groups. Also, assume that the fundamental group of G(Y) is relatively hyperbolic. Then we show that the edge groups of G(Y) have finite relative height (Definition 1.5) if and only if they are relatively quasi-convex (Theorem 1.6). In the last section, we give an application.

Multicolor Turán numbers II -- a generalization of the Ruzsa-Szemerédi theorem and new results on cliques and odd cycles

Abstract:In this paper we continue the study of a natural generalization of Turán's forbidden subgraph problem and the Ruzsa-Szemerédi problem. Let $ex_F(n,G)$ denote the maximum number of edge-disjoint copies of a fixed simple graph $F$ that can be placed on an $n$-vertex ground set without forming a subgraph $G$ whose edges are from different $F$-copies. The case when both $F$ and $G$ are triangles essentially gives back the theorem of Ruzsa and Szemerédi. We extend their results to the case when $F$ and $G$ are arbitrary cliques by applying a number theoretic result due to Erdős, Frankl and Rödl. This extension in turn decides the order of magnitude for a large family of graph pairs, which will be subquadratic, but almost quadratic. Since the linear $r$-uniform hypergraph Turán problems to determine $ex_r^{lin}(n,G)$ form a class of the multicolor Turán problem, following the identity $ex_r^{lin}(n,G)=ex_{K_r}(n,G)$, our results determine the linear hypergraph Turán numbers of every graph of girth $3$ and for every $r$ up to a subpolynomial factor. Furthermore, when $G$ is a triangle, we settle the case $F=C_5$ and give bounds for the cases $F=C_{2k+1}$, $k\ge 3$ as well.

Abstract:Hadwiger's transversal theorem gives necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a line transversal to a family of pairwise disjoint convex sets in the plane. These conditions were subsequently generalized to hyperplane transversals to general families of convex sets in $\mathbb{R}^d$ by Goodman, Pollack, and Wenger. Here we show a colorful genealization of their theorem which confirms a conjecture of Arocha, Bracho, and Montejano. The proof is topological and uses the Borsuk-Ulam theorem.

Combinatorial aspects of szemerédi ’ s theorem

Abstract:In the first section we review the beautiful combinatorial theory of Ramsey as well as the history of Szemerédi’s theorem. In Section 2 we give a sketch of Ruzsa’s modern proof of Freiman’s theorem on sumsets which plays an important role in Gowers’ quantitative proof of Szemerédi’s theorem. In the last section we deduce Roth’s theorem (Szemerédi’s theorem in the case k=3) from the Triangle Removal Lemma (in graph-theoretic language) which is an application of Szemerédi’s Regularity Lemma (a powerful tool in graph theory), and show the BalogSzemerédi-Gowers theorem by a graph-theoretic method.

Abstract:Combining Ky Fan's theorem with ideas of Greene and Matousek we prove a generalization of Dol'nikov's theorem. Using another variant of the Borsuk-Ulam theorem due to Bacon and Tucker, we also prove the presence of all possible completely multicolored t-vertex complete bipartite graphs in t-colored t-chromatic Kneser graphs and in several of their relatives. In particular, this implies a generalization of a recent result of G. Spencer and F. E. Su.

Rationality of the Gromov Boundary of Hyperbolic Groups

Abstract:In [BBM21], Belk, Bleak and Matucci proved that hyperbolic groups can be seen as subgroups of the rational group. In order to do so, they associated a tree of atoms to each hyperbolic group. Not so many connections between this tree and the literature on hyperbolic groups were known. In this paper, we prove an atom-version of the fellow traveler property and exponential divergence, together with other similar results. These leads to several consequences: a bound from above of the topological dimension of the Gromov boundary, the definition of an augmented tree which is quasi-isometric to the Cayley graph and a synchronous recognizer which described the equivalence relation given by the quotient map defined from the end of the tree onto the Gromov boundary.

Exact results on generalized Erdős-Gallai problems

Abstract:Generalized Turán problems have been a central topic of study in extremal combinatorics throughout the last few decades. One such problem is maximizing the number of cliques of size $t$ in a graph of a fixed order that does not contain any path (or cycle) of length at least a given number. Both of the path-free and cycle-free extremal problems were recently considered and asymptotically solved by Luo. We fully resolve these problems by characterizing all possible extremal graphs. We further extend these results by solving the edge-variant of these problems where the number of edges is fixed instead of the number of vertices. We similarly obtain exact characterization of the extremal graphs for these edge variants.

Abstract:In this paper, a new general decomposition theory inspired from modular graph decomposition is presented. Our main result shows that, within this general theory, most of the nice algorithmic tools developed for modular decomposition are still efficient. This theory not only unifies the usual modular decomposition generalisations such as modular decomposition of directed graphs or decomposition of 2-structures, but also star cutsets and bimodular decomposition. Our general framework provides a decomposition algorithm which improves the best known algorithms for bimodular decomposition.
A Homology Vanishing Theorem for Graphs with Positive Curvature

Abstract:We prove a homology vanishing theorem for graphs with positive Bakry-' Emery curvature, analogous to a classic result of Bochner on manifolds [3]. Specifically, we prove that if a graph has positive curvature at every vertex, then its first homology group is trivial, where the notion of homology that we use for graphs is the path homology developed by Grigor'yan, Lin, Muranov, and Yau [11]. We moreover prove that the fundamental group is finite for graphs with positive Bakry-' Emery curvature, analogous to a classic result of Myers on manifolds [22]. The proofs draw on several separate areas of graph theory, including graph coverings, gain graphs, and cycle spaces, in addition to the Bakry-Emery curvature, path homology, and graph homotopy. The main results follow as a consequence of several different relationships developed among these different areas. Specifically, we show that a graph with positive curvature cannot have a non-trivial infinite cover preserving 3-cycles and 4-cycles, and give a combinatorial interpretation of the first path homology in terms of the cycle space of a graph. Furthermore, we relate gain graphs to graph homotopy and the fundamental group developed by Grigor'yan, Lin, Muranov, and Yau [12], and obtain an alternative proof of their result that the abelianization of the fundamental group of a graph is isomorphic to the first path homology over the integers.
