Abstract:Large-diameter heat-supply pipelines are prone to local yielding of the pipe wall under high temperature and pressure. In order to decrease the danger of local yielding of the pipe wall, a preheating installation method is generally adopted. But serious accidents sometimes occur such as a tearing of the compensator when cold water is injected. The reason is that adopting intercycle temperature as the preheating temperature causes the preheating temperature to be higher and the tensile stress of pipeline to be larger when cooling. In the paper, average stress temperature is proposed to replace the intercycle temperature as the preheating temperature. Inner pressure, diameter, and the thickness of the pipe are taken into account for determining the preheating temperature. The result indicated that the average stress temperature is lower than the intercycle temperature, especially for large diameter, high-pressure directly buried pipelines. The computed method is conducive to pipeline safety, reducing preheating energy consumption, and shortening the preheating cycle.
