Abstract:A high-power 532 nm-pumped multikilohertz nanosecond optical parametric oscillator using a periodically poled 1.0 mol. % MgO-doped stoichiometric lithium tantalate crystal that could be operated from room temperature to 200 degrees C without damage is reported. A broad continuous tuning range from 855 to 1410 nM was achieved within a single domain period. Efficient operation of high peak power and watt level average power with a power conversion of 62.5% was measured. These results show that a high-resolution high average power visible tunable source can be realized. (c) 2006 Optical Society of America.

Abstract:A pulsed tunable optical parametric oscillator using periodically-poled stoichiometric lithium tantalate pumped at 532 nm is reported. The tuning range achieved was from 0.65 μm to 2.97 μm and the photon conversion efficiency was 40%.

Abstract:A compact, efficient optical parametric oscillator (OPO) for the visible to near-infrared region based on periodically poled stoichiometric lithium tantalate pumped by a frequency-doubled multikilohertz Q-switched Nd:YAG laser is demonstrated. Up to 61% photon conversion with a 71% slope efficiency for photon conversion from 532 nm to the signal radiation was measured. We observed that the efficient conversion diminished the potential for photorefractive damage induced by the 532 nm radiation in the crystal and made sustained operation of the OPO device possible.

Abstract:An optical parametric oscillator (OPO) based on a highly MgO doped periodically poled lithium niobate (PPMgLN) crystal was experimentally demonstrated and the result is presented in this report. The PPMgLN wafer was fabricated from a MgO doped (with 6mol% doping concentration) lithium niobate crystal by means of high voltage pulse trigged domain reversal technique and has 20 domain reversal periods from 27.8 to 31.6μm with a step of 0.2μm between the neighbor periods. An acousto-optic (AO) Q-switched Nd3+:YVO4 laser was used as the pumping laser. A maximum laser output power of 4.8W has been achieved for the OPO when the pumping power is 10.8W and it corresponds to an optic-optic conversion efficiency of 44%. By shifting the PPMgLN wafer, the periods of the domain structure on the PPMgLN wafer can be changed, thus enabling a wide spectral tuning range of the laser output from 1.42 to 1.73μm (for the signal light) and from 2.76 to 4.27μm (for the idler light).

Abstract:We report a compact and viable source of high-efficiency, high-repetition-rate, temperature-tuning, mid-IR optical parametric oscillator (OPO) based on periodically poled MgO-doped lithium niobate (PPMgOLN) pumped by a homemade high power AOM Q-switched Nd:YVO 4 laser centered at 1.064 μm. With an optimal plane-concave resonator configuration, average output power of 5.7 W at 2.73 μm was obtained when the pump power was 25 W at the repetition rate of 80 kHz. The conversion efficiency from the 1.064 μm laser to the 2.73 μm laser was 22.8%. Temperature tuning of the OPO yielded a signal wavelength range from 1.67 to 1.75 μm and an idler wavelength in the range of 2.72 to 2.92 μm.

Abstract:A high power, high-conversion-efficiency, and tunable continuous-wave external cavity pump singly resonant optical parametric oscillator (OPO) was proposed in this article. This OPO was based on multi-grating MgO-doped stoichiometric periodically poled LiTaO3 (MgO:sPPLT) and pumped with 532 nm continuous wave fiber laser. The MgO:sPPLT-OPO could provide near-infrared radiation across 821-879 nm in the signal and 1352-1515 nm in the idler within four grating periods of 8.3-8.6 mu m. When the pump power was 5.4 W, the maximum pump-to-signal conversion efficiency could reach 57.5% at 821 nm. The output power extended to 5.9 W in each period when the pump power reaches 13.6 W.

Abstract:A watt-level, widely tunable, narrow-linewidth pulsed MgO:PPLN optical parametric oscillator using a single etalon is demonstrated above 3 μm for the first time, to the best of our knowledge. The pump source is an acousto-optical Q-switched Nd:YAG laser at 1064 nm with a pulse duration of 220 ns and a repetition rate of 10 kHz. Employing a V-shaped cavity configuration, the emission wavelengths of the OPO can be tuned in the range of 3.64 μm − 3.8 μm and 1478 nm − 1503 nm by varying the temperatures of the MgO:PPLN crystal between 37°C and 146°C. Under a pump power of 22.5 W, a maximum average output power of 2.12 W at 3.74 μm is achieved with a theoretical linewidth of 0.3 nm at the temperature of 79.6°C, corresponding to a pulse width of 145 ns and a peak power of 1.46 KW. At the same time, a maximum signal power of 2.86 W at 1486.66 nm is obtained with a linewidth of 0.03 nm, corresponding to a pulse width of 190 ns and a peak power of 1.51 KW.

Abstract:We report a subnanosecond mid-IR tunable optical parametric oscillator based on periodically poled stoichiometric lithium tantalate (PPSLT), pumped by an amplified single frequency microchip laser at 1064 nm at a repetition rate of 0.5 kHz. Using a 20 mm long PPSLT crystal polled with three different domain periods (30.2, 30.3, and 30.4 μm) and changing the temperature of the crystal from 20°C to 265°C, we achieved wavelength tuning between 2990 and 3500 nm. The high nonlinearity of the used medium and the large aperture (3.2 mm) ensure maximum idler output energy of ~2 mJ in the whole tuning range, corresponding to 18% idler conversion efficiency and more than 1 W of average power. 270 ps idler pulse durations were obtained as a result of the 818 ps pulse duration of the pump.

Abstract:An efficient MgO: PPLN singly resonant optical parametric oscillator (SROPO) pumped by a Nd: YVO4/YVO4 2nd-Stokes Raman laser at 1313 nm was demonstrated. The maximum conversion efficiency of 54.8% was obtained at the pump power of 1.16W, which was higher than that of the OPO pumped by 1st-Stokes Raman laser at 1176 nm, due to the better beam quality, narrower line width and pulse width of the 2nd-Stokes Raman laser. The maximum output power of 1.57 W at 1855.5 nm with the pulse repetition frequency (PRF) of 40 kHz was achieved under the pump power of 4 W. The corresponding conversion efficiency was 39.7%, with the pulse width of 2.53 ns, linewidth of 0.45 nm, and M2 of 1.87. Meanwhile, with the crystal period ranging from 27.91 to 29.98 μm, the tuning range of signal wave was 1778.6∼1861.8 nm.

Abstract:This paper reports on a high-repetition-rate dual signal-wave (DSW) optical parametric oscillator (OPO) operating at the 1.5μm band with tunable wavelength intervals from 2.5nm to 69.1nm. Two periodically poled crystals, a periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) with multiple gratings and a single grating MgO-doped PPLN (PPMgOLN), are cascaded in the same OPO cavity to generate dual signal-waves by using quasi-phase-matched (QPM) technique. The pump source was a Q-switched diode-pumped Nd:YVO4 laser operating at 50kHz. At an incident pump power of 3W, an average output power of 169.6mW at 1489.2nm and 1558.3nm has been achieved.

Abstract:A high-energy PPMgLN optical parametric oscillator (OPO) pumped by a E-O Q-switched Nd:YAG laser working at 1.064 μm was successfully illustrated. A maximum output pulse energy of 3.4 mJ was obtained with a pump threshold of 1.5 mJ and a slope efficiency of 30% around room temperature. The OPO output signal and idler wavelength were 1552 and 3384 nm, respectively. The damage to the input surface of PPMgLN crystal was carefully observed with a damage threshold of 4.6 J/cm 2 .

Abstract:We have experimentally demonstrated a periodically poled magnesium-oxide-doped lithium niobate (PPMgLN)-based, fiber-laser-pumped optical parametric oscillator (OPO) generating idler wavelength of 3.82 μm. The pump fiber laser was constructed with a linearly polarized, semi-fiber-coupled acousto-optic Q-switched fiber oscillator and a polarization-maintaining fiber amplifier with pulse duration of 190 ns at the highest output power. The OPO was specifically configured in single-pass, singly resonant linear cavity structure to avoid the damage risk of the pump fiber laser, which is always a serious issue in the fiber-laser-pumped, double-pass, singly oscillating structured OPOs. Under the highest pump power of 25 W, an idler average output power of 3.27 W with one-hour peak-to-peak instability of 5.2% was obtained. The measured M2 factors were 1.98 and 1.44 for horizontal and vertical axis, respectively. The high power stability and good beam quality demonstrated the suitability of such technology for practical application.

Abstract:A 1.8 mu m optical parametric oscillator (OPO) based on a noncritically phase-matched KTiOPO4 crystal is demonstrated. OPO and stimulated Raman scattering techniques are successfully combined in an acousto-optically Q-switched Nd:YAG/SrWO4 Raman laser. The device efficiently realizes three steps of conversion: from a laser diode wavelength of 808 nm to the fundamental wavelength of 1064 nm; next, to the Stokes wavelength of 1180 nm; and finally to the OPO signal wavelength of 1810 nm. With an incident diode power of 7.2 W and a pulse repetition rate of 15 kHz, an average signal power of 485 mW is obtained with a diode-to-signal conversion efficiency of 6.75%. The beam quality factors (M-2) of the signal wave in both horizontal and vertical directions are measured to be 1.7 +/- 0.2. The numerical output power results of the system, the thermal lensing, and the stability parameter of the cavity are also discussed. (C) 2011 Optical Society of America

Abstract:We report on a compact high average power optical parametric oscillator (OPO) pumped by an all-solid-state nanosecond 532 nm laser. Based on the merit of non-critically phase-matched crystal without walk-off effect, a 50-mm-long LiB3O5 (LBO) crystal is used as OPO nonlinear crystal to enhance the conversion efficiency and increase the output power. With the available mirror set, continuous tuning from 778 to 1036 nm for signal wave is obtained by changing LBO phase-matching temperature. The maximum average power of signal output is up to 9.4 W at 900 nm for pump power of 18 W inside the LBO crystal, corresponding to a conversion efficiency of 52% only for the signal output. This is, to the best of our knowledge, the highest signal average power generated by nanosecond OPO in single bulk LBO.

Abstract:We report a high-efficiency and high-power mid-IR laser generation by a periodically poled (PP) MgLN-based optical parametric oscillator (OPO) working at room temperature, from which 9.23 W of output was obtained at 3.82 microm when pumped by a linearly polarized acousto-optic Q-switched Nd:YVO(4) laser of 48.2 W output. A semi-external-cavity structure was applied in the OPO system to avoid the conversion saturation caused by the thermal lens effect of the PPMgLN crystal and thus to maintain the high conversion efficiency and the high beam quality under the high power level. It was computed that 29.4% slope efficiency and 19.2% total efficiency were realized for the 1.063-3.82 microm conversion.

Abstract:We demonstrate broadband tuning visible light generation based on a multi-channel quasi-periodically poled LiTaO3 crystal, in which a quasi-phase matched optical parametric generation process and a quasi-phase matched sum-frequency mixing process were achieved simultaneously. The conversion characters on spectrum and energy were studied by using a nanosecond pulse laser at 1.064μm as pump light. We could tune the visible light over ~26nm by means of changing the crystal's channel and temperature. The ratio of the output wavelength variation to that of temperature was ~0.07nm/°C. The single-pass slope efficiency was 6.3% with the maximum output energy of 25μJ.

The OPO is pumped by a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser working at 1.064 μm. Abstract:We report a novel temperature insensitive, APMgLN-based, high-power cascaded optical parametric oscillator (OPO) pumped by an Ytterbium-doped fiber laser. A monolithic APMgLN crystal was designed to compensate the phase mismatches for the nonlinear conversions from the pump to the idler and the primary signal to the idler simultaneously in a wide temperature range. Efficient parametric conversion with pump-to-idler conversion efficiency over 15% and slope efficiency higher than 20% was realized from 25 °C to 55 °C. The idler wavelength was down-shifted from 3.82 μm to 3.78 μm accordingly during the temperature rise. The highest idler power of 4.1 W at 3.8 μm under the pump power of 26.5 W was recorded which was improved by ~32% in pump-to-idler conversion efficiency when compared with the PPMgLN-based conventional OPO, in which the highest idler output power was 3.1W under the same pump and thermal condition.
