Abstract:A pulsed tunable optical parametric oscillator using periodically-poled stoichiometric lithium tantalate pumped at 532 nm is reported. The tuning range achieved was from 0.65 μm to 2.97 μm and the photon conversion efficiency was 40%.

Abstract:A high-power 532 nm-pumped multikilohertz nanosecond optical parametric oscillator using a periodically poled 1.0 mol. % MgO-doped stoichiometric lithium tantalate crystal that could be operated from room temperature to 200 degrees C without damage is reported. A broad continuous tuning range from 855 to 1410 nM was achieved within a single domain period. Efficient operation of high peak power and watt level average power with a power conversion of 62.5% was measured. These results show that a high-resolution high average power visible tunable source can be realized. (c) 2006 Optical Society of America.

Abstract:A compact, efficient optical parametric oscillator (OPO) for the visible to near-infrared region based on periodically poled stoichiometric lithium tantalate pumped by a frequency-doubled multikilohertz Q-switched Nd:YAG laser is demonstrated. Up to 61% photon conversion with a 71% slope efficiency for photon conversion from 532 nm to the signal radiation was measured. We observed that the efficient conversion diminished the potential for photorefractive damage induced by the 532 nm radiation in the crystal and made sustained operation of the OPO device possible.

Abstract:We report a subnanosecond mid-IR tunable optical parametric oscillator based on periodically poled stoichiometric lithium tantalate (PPSLT), pumped by an amplified single frequency microchip laser at 1064 nm at a repetition rate of 0.5 kHz. Using a 20 mm long PPSLT crystal polled with three different domain periods (30.2, 30.3, and 30.4 μm) and changing the temperature of the crystal from 20°C to 265°C, we achieved wavelength tuning between 2990 and 3500 nm. The high nonlinearity of the used medium and the large aperture (3.2 mm) ensure maximum idler output energy of ~2 mJ in the whole tuning range, corresponding to 18% idler conversion efficiency and more than 1 W of average power. 270 ps idler pulse durations were obtained as a result of the 818 ps pulse duration of the pump.

Abstract:The evolution versus pump power of the spectrum of a singly resonant optical parametric oscillator based on an MgO-doped periodically poled stoichiometric lithium tantalate crystal is observed. The onset of cascade Raman lasing due to stimulated Raman scattering in the nonlinear crystal is analyzed. Spurious frequency doubling and sum-frequency generation phenomena are observed and understood. A strong reduction of the intracavity Raman scattering is obtained by a careful adjustment of the cavity losses.

Abstract:We demonstrate a tunable optical parametric oscillator in a periodically poled congruently grown lithium tantalite whispering gallery mode resonator. The resonator is mechanically polished to millimeter size, and the quality factor is approximately 107 at 1064 nm. Our experiments show that this kind of resonator is capable of reaching a very low threshold and having a wide tuning range. Combined with its narrow resonant linewidth, it is potentially used as a compact, widely tunable, and narrow-linewidth infrared to mid-infrared laser source.

Abstract:We demonstrate broadband tuning visible light generation based on a multi-channel quasi-periodically poled LiTaO3 crystal, in which a quasi-phase matched optical parametric generation process and a quasi-phase matched sum-frequency mixing process were achieved simultaneously. The conversion characters on spectrum and energy were studied by using a nanosecond pulse laser at 1.064μm as pump light. We could tune the visible light over ~26nm by means of changing the crystal's channel and temperature. The ratio of the output wavelength variation to that of temperature was ~0.07nm/°C. The single-pass slope efficiency was 6.3% with the maximum output energy of 25μJ.

Abstract:We have achieved broadband parametric generation by using a quasi-periodically poled LiTaO(3) crystal as frequency converter. Tuning wavelength rang from 0.609 microm to 5.208 microm, which covered three quasi-phase-matching processes, was obtained by means of changing the pump wavelength from 0.530 microm to 1.184 microm. The experiment results are in good agreement with theory. The maximum conversion efficiency is 62% with a 10 Hz-5 ns pump source, at the average pump power of 0.5 mW. Our results exhibit a possible application of quasi-periodic superlattice in laser technology.

Abstract:We report an efficiency-enhanced mid-infrared generation via optical parametric down conversion. A tandem periodically-poled MgO-doped stoichiometric lithium tantalate crystal is used to realize on-chip generation and amplification of mid-infrared radiation inside an optical parametric oscillator cavity. We achieved 21.2% conversion efficiency (24% slope efficiency), which is among the highest efficiencies for the pump-to-mid-infrared conversion, with 1064 nm Nd class laser pump. The maximum average output power at 3.87 mu m reached 635 mW with a 3.0 W pump. (C) 2011 Optical Society of America

Abstract:This paper reports on a high-repetition-rate dual signal-wave (DSW) optical parametric oscillator (OPO) operating at the 1.5μm band with tunable wavelength intervals from 2.5nm to 69.1nm. Two periodically poled crystals, a periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) with multiple gratings and a single grating MgO-doped PPLN (PPMgOLN), are cascaded in the same OPO cavity to generate dual signal-waves by using quasi-phase-matched (QPM) technique. The pump source was a Q-switched diode-pumped Nd:YVO4 laser operating at 50kHz. At an incident pump power of 3W, an average output power of 169.6mW at 1489.2nm and 1558.3nm has been achieved.

Abstract:We present a hybrid waveguide-fiber optical parametric oscillator (OPO) exploiting degenerate four-wave mixing in tantalum pentoxide. The OPO, pumped with ultrashort pulses at 1.55 $\mu$m wavelength, generated tunable idler pulses with up to 4.1 pJ energy tunable between 1.63 $\mu$m and 1.68 $\mu$m center wavelength. An upper bound for the total tolerable cavity loss of 32 dB was found, rendering a chip-integrated OPO feasible as a compact and robust light source.

Abstract:We demonstrate a temperature tunable infrared optical parametric oscillator(OPO) based on periodically poled LiNbO3(PPLN) pumped by an acousto-optically Q-switched cw-diode-end-pumped Nd:YVO4 laser with the signal output from 1.48μm to 1.54μm by tuning the work temperature from 60°C to 250℃ and the maximum average signal power (1500nm)of 137mW.We report the demonstration of the sum frequency of the pump and idler in a single-grating PPLN crystal,In addition,we present the theoretical analysis of the signal wavelength change rate with the changing temperature for a quasi-phase matching OPO,which is in good agreement with our experimental results.

Abstract:We report in this work a continuous wave (CW) narrowband 589 nm light generation for the purpose of laser guide assisted adaptive optics. A 39 mm long 1 mm thick periodically poled near stoichiometric LiTaO 3 crystal with duty cycle near 50% was fabricated using electrical poling at room temperature and pumped by a Raman fiber amplifier. We tested two temperature control ovens, and a maximum conversion efficiency of about 14.3%, corresponding to 4 W of yellow light with 28 W of fundamental power, and bandwidth less than 0.18 GHz was achieved.

Abstract:We report a compact all-solid-state mid-infrared optical parametric oscillator with wide tunability using periodically poled 5 mol % MgO-doped LiNbO3 with a multiple-channel structure design and pumped by a compact diode-pump solid-state laser operating at 1.064 μm. Wide tunability from 1.44 to 1.58 μm at the signal beam wavelength and from 3.28 to 4.11 μm at the idler beam wavelength was achieved by both varying the temperature and translating the crystal through the resonator and the pump beam with no realignment required. The tuning performance and its related factors were analyzed, and at the same time the output performance as well as the effect of mid-infrared absorption of idler beam was investigated.

Abstract:We report a compact and viable source of high-efficiency, high-repetition-rate, temperature-tuning, mid-IR optical parametric oscillator (OPO) based on periodically poled MgO-doped lithium niobate (PPMgOLN) pumped by a homemade high power AOM Q-switched Nd:YVO 4 laser centered at 1.064 μm. With an optimal plane-concave resonator configuration, average output power of 5.7 W at 2.73 μm was obtained when the pump power was 25 W at the repetition rate of 80 kHz. The conversion efficiency from the 1.064 μm laser to the 2.73 μm laser was 22.8%. Temperature tuning of the OPO yielded a signal wavelength range from 1.67 to 1.75 μm and an idler wavelength in the range of 2.72 to 2.92 μm.

Abstract:Simultaneous optical parametric oscillation and intracavity second-harmonic generation based on a hexagonally poled lithium tantalate is reported. Both the optical parametric oscillation and the cascaded noncollinear second-order harmonic generation processes reach a high efficiency. A variety of possible self-doubling optical parametric oscillation processes indicate this hexagonally poled lithium tantalate has potential applications as a compact multi-wavelength light source.

Abstract:An optical parametric oscillator (OPO) based on periodically-poled lithium niobate (PPLN) and pumped by 1064.2-nm laser is demonstrated, which can be conveniently tuned by the means of changing its operating temperature. The parameters of the set-up and experimental results are introduced in this paper. We adjusted the operating temperature from 80 to 250℃, the output wavelength shifted from 1485.4 to 1540.7nm. The average of the shifts is 0.33 nm/℃.
