For convergence ofSn in probability and with probability one, in [2],[3] etc., the following stronger condition is required: {Xn} is uniformly bounded by a random variableX,i.e.P(¦Xn¦⩾x)⩽P(¦X¦⩾x) for allx>0. Our paper aims at trying to drop this restriction.

Abstract:The paper gives some theorems about the increments of partial sums of independent, but not necessarily independent identically distributed random variables. The main results are ideal and corresponding to those for i. i. d. random variables. Therefore these sharp results of Hanson and Russo (1983) answer some of their questions.

Abstract:In this paper we obtain weak laws of large numbers (WLLNs) for arrays of random variables under the uniform Cesàro-type condition. As corollary, we obtain the result of Hong and Oh [Hong, D. H., Oh, K. S., 1995. On the weak law of large numbers for arrays. Statist. Probab. Lett. 22, 55–57]. Furthermore, we obtain a WLLN for an Lp-mixingale array without the conditions that the mixingale is uniformly integrable and the Lp-mixingale numbers decay to zero at a special rate.

Abstract:Abstract We give here an almost sure central limit theorem for self-normalized partial sums of a strictly stationary φ-mixing sequences which is in the domain of attraction of the normal law with mean zero and possibly infinite variance. Our result substantially extend a result on the almost sure central limit theorem previously obtained by Huang and Pang (2010).

Abstract:Let X-1 , . . . , X-n be a random sample from a p-dimensional population distribution. Assume that c(1)n(alpha) <= p <= c(2)n(alpha) for some positive constants c(1), c(2) and alpha. In this paper we introduce a new statistic for testing independence of the p-variates of the population and prove that the limiting distribution is the extreme distribution of type I with a rate of convergence O ((log n)(5/2)/root n). This is much faster than O (1/log n), a typical convergence rate for this type of extreme distribution. A simulation study and application to stochastic optimization are discussed.

Abstract:For the sequence of ρ˜-mixing identically distributed random variables, we show two general strong laws of large numbers (SLLNs) in which the coefficient of sum and the weight are both general functions, and as a consequence we obtain the Marcinkiewicz SLLN. Abstract:We consider a class of dependent random variables where the dependence structure involves a factor driven by Sn/n. Under very mild conditions for the innovation, we obtain several asymptotic results for the partial sums including basic asymptotics and strong limit theorems. The fact that the asymptotic properties differ strikingly in a neighbour of a critical point makes the model very interesting.

Abstract:In this paper, a notion of negative side ϱ-mixing (ϱ −-mixing) which can be regarded as asymptotic negative association is defined, and some Rosenthal type inequalities for ϱ −-mixing random fields are established. The complete convergence and almost sure summability on the convergence rates with respect to the strong law of large numbers are also discussed for ϱ −-mixing random fields. The results obtained extend those for negatively associated sequences and ϱ * random fields.

Abstract:Let {Zn,n≥1} be a sequence of independent nonnegative r.v.’s (random variables) with finite second moments. It is shown that under a Lindeberg-type condition, the αth inverse moment E{a+Xn}−α can be asymptotically approximated by the inverse of the αth moment {a+EXn}−α where a>0,α>0, and {Xn} are the naturally-scaled partial sums. Furthermore, it is shown that, when {Zn} only possess finite rth moments, 1≤r<2, the preceding asymptotic approximation can still be valid by using different norming constants which are the standard deviations of partial sums of suitably truncated {Zn}.
