Abstract:Turbine-generator shaft torsional oscillation caused by electrical operations, especially multiple operations, affects the security of the power station. Some studies based on time domain simulation methods have been reported, but a mathematical model which can deal with the mechanism of torsional oscillation has not been established. In this paper, the shaft globe energy function is constructed using state variables to indicate the magnitude of shaft torsional oscillation. The value of the energy function at the time of performing the last operation is proportional to the torsional oscillation intensity. This value varies continuously and periodically, and is determined by the disturbance torque and the instant of performing the last operation. A shaft partial energy function for a two-section equivalent model of the shaft system is also constructed to analyzed the torsional oscillation amplitude of the most seriously disturbed shaft section. Finally, the auto-reclosure is taken as an example to demonstrate the electrical operations' impacts on shaft torsional oscillation. The electrical operation results in new disturbance in the system, which may enlarge or reduce the oscillation, depending on the magnitude and the applying time of the new disturbance. It is shown that the shaft torsional oscillation can be reduced if the time of the last electrical operation is chosen appropriately.
