Abstract:The melting phenomena play a role in a number of processes, including the thawing of frozen ground, the solidification of magma, and the melting of permafrost. The melting and freezing of soil in the vicinity of heat exchanger coils in ground-based pumps serves as an illustration of the significance of comprehending melting processes in fluid dynamics. The purpose of this paper is to examine the melting effects on mass and heat transfer properties of a Darcy-Forchheimer porous medium in a cross-nanofluid flow towards a horizontally extended cylindrical surface at the MHD stagnation point. Viscose dissipation elaborates the heat transmission process. The Buongiorno nanofluid model is used for analyzing thermometric and Brownian motion properties. Moreover, chemical reactions are used to investigate their effects on the solutal field. By applying the appropriate similarity transformations, the nonlinear coupled partial differential equations regulating the fluid flow are transformed into the nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The equations that emerged for the boundary value problem (BVP) transformed to the initial value problem (IVP), and numerical solutions are obtained by using shooting along with the fifth-order Runge-Kutta technique (RK-5th method). The impact of dimensionless parameters on velocity, temperature, and nanoparticle volume fraction is revealed via graphs. Furthermore, the local Nusselt number is also addressed through tabulated values. The increase in the value of curvature parameters and melting and stretching ratio parameters elevates the velocity profile, whereas it dampens the nanofluid velocity for magnetic, porosity, and Forchheimer parameters. The main outcome for this study is that the melting heat effect accelerates the velocity profile and suppresses the temperature and nanoparticle concentration profiles. Increases in Brownian motion and the thermophoresis parameter improve the temperature distribution, while the thermophoresis parameters decay nanoparticle concentration. The listed numerical outcomes yield that the presence of melting, curvature, and stretching ration parameters increases surface drag force (skin friction), while a decreasing trend is noted for the Forchheimer parameter and magnetic field. An increasing heat transfer rate (Nusselt number) is enhanced for the melting parameter and Forchheimer parameter. It is also noted that mass transfer rate (Sherwood number) decreases for curvature and Schmidt numbers. The numerical approach is evaluated against existing data and found to be in excellent agreement. Together, these contributions strengthen the research community ability to solve challenging issues pertaining to fluid dynamics, heat and mass transfer and nanofluidic applications, laying a strong foundation for upcoming studies and technological advancements.
