Abstract:E-F phase difference is one of the important parameters of DVD optical pick-up heads.Analyses and addresses a test method of E-F phase difference of DVD optical pick-up heads based on FPGA.Introduces the design methods of the system including: the model of the optical head,tracking difference and the principle of tracking error photo detectors.Expatiates the pretreatment aspect,the low-pass filter aspect,the binarization treatment aspect and the phase comparator and simulated the module with QUARTUS.Experiment displayed the accuracy of this presented method and system.

Abstract:Phase detection is one of the most important processing steps in optical phase-shifting interferometry. It aims to reconstruct the phase field of wavefront from the interferogram. To solve this problem, many algorithms of phase detection have been proposed these years. Here, A FFT-based two-step phase shifting (TPS) algorithm is described in detail and implemented by use of experimental interferograms. This algorithm has been proposed to solve the TPS problem with random phase shift except π. By comparison with the Visibility-Function-based TPS algorithm, it proves that the FFT-based algorithm has obvious advantages in phase extracting. Meanwhile, we present a π-phase-shift supplement to the TPS algorithm, which combines the two interferograms and demodulates the phase map from a combined interferogram. So combining this quasi-two-step method and FFT-based one, one could really implement the TPS with random phase shift. Thereafter, we design an optical setup of two-channel TPS interferometer with random phase shift, which could capture the two interferograms simultaneously. At the same time, we propose a fringe-variable Jamin interferometer to detect reversed domain of ferroelectric crystal in real time. It could realize the two-step phase shifting with π radian.

Abstract:The paper proposes a novel differential phase detection (DPD) signal detection method for read-only high density optical disk, discusses the desire and design of the equalizer and the phase comparator, and achieves the phase detection of high frequency signal of DVD based on CPLD. The experiment result shows that the detection of DPD signal is correct.

Abstract:The PDIC(Photo detector integrated circuit) position error causes the displacement between the optic axis of optical pick-up and the PDIC center.The influence of PDIC position error on the DPD(Differential phase detection) signal is analyzed and computed using the DVD-ROM parameters based on the optic disk scalar diffraction model.The poison error along disk tangential direction decreases the DPD signal amplitude,and the factor is 1.52T when position error is less than 25%.The radial poison error increases the DPD signal offset,and the factor is 3.8T when position error is less than 50%.

Abstract:The radial tilt between vertical direction of disc and optical axis of lens in standard DVD traverse, plane vibration and warp of disc are important parameters in production and detection of DVD discs. In this paper, a new dynamic detection method which we call pulse-width method is proposed to detect the radial tilt, plane vibration and warp through analyzing the optical and electrical features of traverse. Based on the method, an apparatus is developed and the experimental results compared with the analysis results verify the validity of the method. The applicability and testing precision are also analyzed.

Abstract:There exist some shallow scratch defects on the super-smooth optical surface. Their detection has a low efficiency with the existing technologies. So a new detection method, dark-field detection of adaptive smoothing and morphological differencing (DFD-ASMD), is proposed. On one hand, the information of shallow scratches can be kept in dark-field images. On the other hand, their weak characteristics can be separated and protected from being overly reduced during the elimination of noise and background in the image. Experiments show the detection rate of shallow scratches is around 82%, and DFD-ASMD can lay a foundation for quality control of defects on the high-quality optical surface.

Abstract:A high-density DVD (HD-DVD) is one of the high-density optical storage technology newly designed to meet the demands of high-definition video broadcasting that is very sensitive to the radial tilt of a disk. An analytic model based on diffraction theory is presented in detail to calculate the tracking error signal of a HD-DVD read-only disk driver by using the differential-phase-detection (DPD) method when radial tilt of a disk occurs. The effects of the tilt on a DPD signal in a HD-DVD read-only disk driver are quantified and compared to those in a DVD read-only disk driver. Experimental measurements for the DPD signal under different radial tilt angles in a HD-DVD read-only disk driver are also reported.

Abstract:Though DVD becomes more and more popular, there are still millions of CD-R disk in using. The ability of reading both DVD and CD-R disk is necessary in compatible disk drive. Traditional optical pickup consists of different bulk components, which result in high cost, high difficulty in assembly and low reliability. Integration is a way to, overcome these troubles. Based on planar optics, an integrated digital versatile disk (DVD)/compact disk recordable (CD-R) compatible optical pickup has been developed. In this device, the beams of two wavelengths follow different zigzag optical paths inside a few-mm thick glass substrate, which is used as a light guide. It is demonstrated that a beam combiner, a polarized beam splitter, a Fresnel prism, and a beam separator were integrated around a glass substrate, and such a planar optical pickup exhibited an excellent performance with high efficiency. It confirms that planar optics is an effective way to realize compatibility of DVD/CD-R.

Abstract:To improve the tracking servo performance, a novel signal waveform multi-level (SWML) read-only disc realized on the digital versatile disc (DVD) platform is presented. The characteristic of the differential phase detection (DPD) signal of the SWML read-only disc is analyzed both in theory and experiment. The amplitude of the DPD signal of the SWML read-only disc in an open tracking servo loop is about 2/3 of that of the DVD read-only disc. The uniformity and symmetry of the DPD signal of the SWML read-only disc are similar to those of the DVD read-only disc and better than the former multi-level run-length limited (ML-RLL) read-only disc.

Abstract:The optical pickup unit is a kind of mass-produced product as well as a diffraction-limited micro-optical system. Thus the optical elements are assembled serially in the production line, and its fabricating and assembling errors should be controlled to achieve a diffraction-limited focus spot on the disk. And the reflected light from the disk on the photo detector would be converted and processed in the servo control system and evaluated using the electrical evaluator. Thus a correlation between the electrical evaluator and the spot intensity should be considered when setting the testing standard for a production line. In this paper, the optical pickup is measured using a spot analyzing system. Its electrical signals are described in the evaluator. The optical system in the optical pickup would be divided into two testing parts: base part and focusing part. The base part includes the laser diode, collimator, prism, quarter-wave-plate, beam splitter and reflective mirror; while the focusing part has objective lens, phase plate, wave-plate, and so on. The focus quality is measured using the spot analyzer. Then these optical pickups are processed to get the electrical signals directly from the evaluator. Finally the parameters achieved using these two systems are compared and its correlation are investigated. This method is verified when designing a DVD production line and might be useful in establishing the standards for a new optical pickup.

Abstract:In this paper, a new kind of automatic method to test the Parameters of CD/DVD Optical Discs is introduced and named near-line inspector. Being connected to product lines, sampling and testing the discs automatically in batches, our inspector can provide a brief yet revealing profile of optical disc parameters such as electrical variables (HF, Jitter, etc.), physical variables and digital error variables in an acceptable short time so as to reflect the up-to-date condition of the product lines. As a real-time and relatively high-efficiency measurement method, it will be integrated into a perfect test system together with on-line and off-line inspectors. Such a system would be especially suitable for the replication of high-quality optical discs in large volume. The layout of the whole set of test system is described. Novel frame SYNC signal detection method for multi-level optical discs

Abstract:In the paper,a novel frame SYNC signal detection method for the multi-level optical disc is addressed.The method adopts the differentiation of the RF signal to obtain the time information of record marks,and the digital detection system for the frame SYNC signal is implemented on the FPGA chip.The method is independent with the threshold level,so it avoids the mistake detection caused by the fluctuation of the threshold level.The experimental result shows that the method can accurately detect the frame SYNC signal with the fallout ratio less than 1×10-4 and meets the needs of the multi-level optical disc.

Abstract:The optical pick-up assembly error causes photo detector integrated circuit (PDIC) rotation angle from the disk track direction. The influence of the rotation angle on tracking signal is analyzed and computed based on the optical disk scalar diffraction model. The rotation angle approximately periodically changes the sub-beam signal amplitude and should be strictly controlled in the assembly to maximize the tracking signal amplitude. The differential phase detection (DPD) signal amplitude is less suffered from the rotation angle if the angle is less than 25°. If the angle is within 25°-45° the amplitude is decreased. If the angle is within 45°-90°, the DPD signal polarity is inversed.

Abstract:Dual three-phase permanent magnet (DTPPM) machines are suitable for applications with high power density and high reliability requirements. However, uneven demagnetization fault (UDF) can occur due to harsh working conditions. This article proposes a noninvasive, online detection method of UDF in DTPPM machines based on the electrical signal difference between two sets of three-phase windings, which can be more conducive to UDF diagnosis with higher sensitivity. First, the influence of dual three-phase winding arrangements on phase permanent magnet (PM) flux linkage is investigated in DTPPM machines under UDF. It shows that the fault characteristic harmonics appear in fractional-slot DTPPM machines and integral-slot DTPPM machines, where a single set of three-phase windings is rotationally asymmetric. Furthermore, according to the three-phase relationship of harmonic vectors, it is analyzed whether the fault characteristic harmonics are reflected in stator currents or zero-sequence voltage components (ZSVCs). Notably, taking advantage of the structural feature in DTPPM machines, the proposed method obtains higher sensitivity of UDF detection, as the amplitudes of fault characteristic harmonics in electrical signal difference are larger than that in stator current or ZSVC in a single set of three-phase windings. Finally, experiments are conducted to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:High density digital video disc (HD-DVD) is one of the high density optical data storage technologies to meet the demand of high definition TV. The knife-edge method for focus error detection in HD-DVD driver is proposed in this paper. The calculation model for optical intensity distribution on photo detector under different defocusing amount is deduced on the basis of Fresnel formula and scalar diffraction theory. The S curve obtained theoretically showing how the focus error intensity varies with defocusing amount is in agreement with the experimental one for HD-DVD driver, which validates the calculation model. Furthermore, the focusing noise caused by pit-modulation in HD-DVD driver is analyzed and indicated to be less than 4.5%. It is concluded that a satisfactory focus range of linearity is realized in HD-DVD driver with knife-edge method which has high sensitivity and low focusing noise.

Abstract:For the detection of brake disc volume-production,how to improve the efficiency is the pivotal job in the improvement of production efficiency.The traditional manual means of detection has affected the efficiency and reliability seriously.As considering the fact of detection course,a projection of an automatic detection system was put forward and a detailed description of it was given.With this system,the detection time of a produce is shortened from 50 seconds to 16 seconds.The running result shows that detection system is feasible and effective.

Abstract:Based on the introductions of working principles and the method of servo detecting of DVD optical pick-up system,a novel design of CMOS PDIC(photo detecting integrated circuit)solution is introduced.Chips were implemented by 0.6 μm CMOS process.The post-layout simulations show that under the 650 nm wavelength,the spectral responsivity of the four quadrants PIN photo-detector array is 0.32 A/W;the-3 dB bandwidth of this transimpedance amplifier is 100 MHz,and the sensitivity is 25 mV/μW,as well as an offset voltage deviation of 10 mV.

Abstract:Analytic description of disc diffraction model is obtained using elliptical pits model and Babinet principle. The influence of disc radial tilt on tracking servo system is analyzed and computed focusing on three common disc types. Tracking error offset caused by radial tilt is 0.06 μm/(°) on DVD-ROM using DPD (Differential phase detection) method, while using push-pull method on DVD-RAM the tracking error offset caused by radial tilt is 0.15 μ/(°). Tracking error signal with DPD method exhibit better performance than push-pull method against disc radial tilt under the same disc parameters. Finally relationship between groove depth and tracking error signal offset of DVD-RAM disc is analyzed.

Abstract:Multilevel run-length-limited (ML-RLL) recording technology could be employed to increase the capacity of the read-only disc without changing optical and mechanical units. In this paper, the tracking error signal (TES) of differential phase detection (DPD) for ML-RLL digital versatile disk (DVD) read-only disk driver is analyzed in both theoretical and experimental way, the uniformity and symmetry of which are worse than that of the DVD read-only disk driver. The variation of peak to peak (PP) value distribution of the DPD signal in open loop of ML-RLL DVD read-only disk driver is about 2.6 times of that of the conventional DVD driver while the asymmetry is about 4 times. It is predicted that some improvements of the tracking servo system are needed in ML-RLL system.
