Abstract:Utilizing simple precursors for the exquisite construction of molecules with diversity and complexity is urgent. Herein, a novel A3-X type reaction for functionalized 3-haloquinolines has been developed by PhI (OAc)2-mediated four-component tandem addition/cyclization/oxidation/aromatization process with simple aromatic amine, aldehyde, alkyne and halide salt. Broad functional group tolerance, very mild condition, easy for further transformation illustrate the concision, high efficiency and practicability of this A3-X type reaction.

Abstract:An electrochemical Reformatsky‐type reaction of bromodifluoroamides with aldehydes/ketones via electron reductive umpolung is reported, leading to the generation of a series of β‐hydroxy‐α,α‐difluoro amides in moderate to good yields. This protocol tolerated a variety of commercially available alkyl ketone, alkyl and aromatic aldehydes, featuring broad substrate scope and good functional group tolerance under transition metal‐free conditions without metal reduction reagents. Control experiment indicated that the reaction proceeded via an electron reductive umpolung pathway.

Abstract:A cobalt-catalyzed Markovnikov-type hydroboration of terminal alkynes with HBpin to access alpha-alkenyl boronates with good regioselectivity and atom economy is reported. A new ligand has been developed for the cobalt hydride catalyst that has been used for a unique Markovnikov selective insertion of terminal alkynes into metal hydride bond. This operationally simple protocol exhibits excellent functional group tolerance to deliver valuable alkene derivatives.

Abstract:Using a single chiral phosphoramide-Zn(II) complex as the catalyst, the asymmetric β-H transfer reduction of aromatic α-trifluoromethyl ketones and enantioselective addition of aromatic aldehydes with Et2Zn in one pot were successfully realized, affording the corresponding additive products of secondary alcohols in high yields (up to 99%) with excellent enantioselectivities (up to 98% ee) and the reduction products of α-trifluoromethyl alcohols in good to excellent yields with up to 77% ee.

Abstract:This study describes an unprecedented chromium-catalyzed asymmetric Reformatsky reaction, enabling the synthesis of chiral β-hydroxy carbonyl compounds from α-chlorinated or α-brominated esters and amides. By employing a chiral chromium/diarylamine bis(oxazoline) catalyst, we achieved relatively broad functional group tolerance. Distinct from known reports, the protocol operates under both classical and photoredox conditions, facilitated by the in-situ formation of a nucleophilic chiral chromium intermediate through a radical-polar crossover mechanism. Preliminary mechanistic insights, supported by DFT calculations, identify the nucleophilic aldehyde addition as the key stereo-determining step. This approach not only overcomes the limitations of existing Reformatsky reactions but also provides a versatile strategy for accessing complex chiral molecules.

Abstract:α-Halo alkylboronic esters are versatile reagents in chemical synthesis. These reagents are typically prepared by the homologation of boronic esters with a dihaloalkyl lithium species. However, the need to form anionic boron intermediates limits the scope of α-haloboronates. Herein, we present a method for the catalytic radical halosulfonation of vinylboronates to a variety of α-halo alkylboronic esters using iron powder as catalyst. This protocol features functional group tolerance, wide substrate scope, gram-scale synthesis, and operational simplicity under air conditions. Moreover, the resulting products can be smoothly derivatized to various value-added molecules. The combined mechanistic investigations and density functional theory calculations suggest that Fe(I)-halogen species generated from the in situ reaction plays a key role to drive the catalytic cycle and also acts as an actual halogen-transferring donor.

Abstract:A practical and straightforward bimetallic Pd/Cu catalytic system has been developed. This system affords various sulfonamides in one pot from easy-to-handle and readily available boronic acids, sulfur dioxide surrogate DABSO and O-benzoyl hydroxylamines in high yields. Without additional ligands, the newly developed catalytic system revealed a broad substrate scope for both partners and tolerated a wide array of functional groups even at low catalyst loadings. Furthermore, based on control experiments, a plausible mechanism has been proposed, in which sodium sulfinate has been isolated and identified as the crucial intermediate for this transformation.

Abstract:An operationally convenient Zn-catalyzed synthesis of alcohols by the reduction of aldehydes, ketones, and α,β-unsaturated aldehydes/ketones is reported. It is a rare example of using mild and sustainable HBpin as a reductant for catalytic reduction of carbonyl compounds in the absence of acid or base as hydrolysis reagent. The reaction is upscalable and proceeds in high selectivity without the formation of boronate ester by-products, and tolerates sensitive functionalities, such as iodo, bromo, chloro, fluoro, nitro, trifluoromethyl, aminomethyl, alkynyl, and amide. The Zn(OAc)2/HBpin combination has been also proved to be chemoselective for the C=N reduction of imine analogs.

Abstract:We have developed an efficient method for the synthesis of unsymmetrical and symmetrical 2,2′-biquinoline derivatives under 55% HI-catalyzed conditions using oxygen as the oxidant and cheap and readily available aromatic amines as feedstocks in one pot. This transformation undergoes multistep reactions such as multiple radical additions and isomerization, cyclization, and oxidation. Mechanistic investigations indicate that the transformation may involve a free radical cascade cyclization pathway.
