Abstract:Enantioselective trifluoromethylation of aromatic ketones promoted by the cinchona alkaloid-derived ammonium bromide and sodium hydride was described. A series of trifluoromethyl-substituted aryl alcohols could be obtained in up to 82% ee with 98% yield under mild conditions. A possible catalytic cycle was also presented.

Abstract:An electrochemical Reformatsky‐type reaction of bromodifluoroamides with aldehydes/ketones via electron reductive umpolung is reported, leading to the generation of a series of β‐hydroxy‐α,α‐difluoro amides in moderate to good yields. This protocol tolerated a variety of commercially available alkyl ketone, alkyl and aromatic aldehydes, featuring broad substrate scope and good functional group tolerance under transition metal‐free conditions without metal reduction reagents. Control experiment indicated that the reaction proceeded via an electron reductive umpolung pathway.

Selective alpha-Bromination of Functionalized Ketene Dithioacetals

Abstract:Functionalized ketene dithioacetals are important intermediates in organic synthesis. alpha-Functionalization reactions based on them provide potential precursors for the construction of usefully carbo- and hetero-cyclic compounds. In this paper, a versatile alpha-bromination of functionalized ketene dithioacetals was developed. In the presence of H2O, the reactions of functionalized ketene dithioacetals(1) with CuBr2 in THF at room temperature gave various alpha-bromo ketene dithioacetals (2) in excellent yields with high regioselectivities. The mechanism of this alpha-bromination is proposed to undergo an addition of bromine formed in situ to compound 1 and sequontial elimination of the alpha-proton. The simplicity of execution, mild conditions, inexpensive, easily usable brominating agent and high yields, make this synthetic method attractive for practical applications.

Abstract:This study describes an unprecedented chromium-catalyzed asymmetric Reformatsky reaction, enabling the synthesis of chiral β-hydroxy carbonyl compounds from α-chlorinated or α-brominated esters and amides. By employing a chiral chromium/diarylamine bis(oxazoline) catalyst, we achieved relatively broad functional group tolerance. Distinct from known reports, the protocol operates under both classical and photoredox conditions, facilitated by the in-situ formation of a nucleophilic chiral chromium intermediate through a radical-polar crossover mechanism. Preliminary mechanistic insights, supported by DFT calculations, identify the nucleophilic aldehyde addition as the key stereo-determining step. This approach not only overcomes the limitations of existing Reformatsky reactions but also provides a versatile strategy for accessing complex chiral molecules.

Abstract:A series of epoxide compounds catalyzed by TMSCl are synthesized by Darzens condensation reaction of aldehydes and α-bromo ketones in the presence of Mg and ethanol.The structure of the products are characterized by IR,1HNMR and 13CNMR.The reaction has the advantage of simple working-up procedure,mild reaction conditions,excellent yields and meets the requirements of green chemistry.

Abstract:Under ambient temperature conditions, a novel method has been developed for the conversion of aryl bromides to aromatic aldehydes, utilizing DMF (N,N-dimethylformamide) as both the starting material and solvent, in the presence of samarium metal and a trace of silver salts. This research has successfully explored an efficient approach for Barbier-type addition reactions, leading to the establishment of a novel C-C bond. A variety of bromides have been investigated as substrates, and aldehydes are readily obtained in moderate to high yields under mild conditions. The presence of 1 mol% of silver nitrate and potassium iodide is sufficient to catalyze the reaction, with the primary role of potassium iodide being to generate soluble silver iodide in the organic solvent, thereby catalyzing the reaction. The mechanism of the silver(I)-catalyzed process is discussed.

Abstract:A photoinduced three‐component reaction of thianthrenium salts, DABCO·(SO2)2, and benzyl ether substituted alkenes is developed, affording δ‐hydroxylsulfones with good functional group tolerance. This transformation proceeds through an anti‐Markovnikov hydrosulfonylation of alkenes under a mild reaction condition. Mechanism studies indicates that this reaction undergoes a radical pathway involving sulfur dioxide insertion and 1,5‐hydrogen transfer processes.

Abstract:In this work, we have developed a facile protocol with salan-Cu system for the facile and selective synthesis of beta-hydroxyesters via silyl-Reformatsky reaction with alpha-silylester and aldehydes. The screening and optimization of reaction conditions led to the determination of a practical and efficient procedure in which the salan-Cu exhibited promising catalytic activity in dimethylsulfoxide, in which the silyl-Reformatsky reaction of aromatic aldehydes with alpha-trimethylsilylmethylacetate gave the corresponding beta-hydroxyester derivatives in excellent yields (up to 98%) under fluoride-free reaction conditions.

Abstract:An efficient tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium and Brønsted acid catalyzed allylic substitution reaction of benzothiazolylacetamide with allylic alcohols in water has been developed, and the corresponding allylated products were afforded in good to excellent (up to 99%) yields with high regioselectivities. This straightforward protocol exhibits good functional group tolerance and scalability.

Abstract:[GRAPHICS]A new and efficient methodology has been developed for the synthesis of beta-diketones from aromatic a-bromo ketones in the presence of Furukawa reagent under mild conditions. The present transformation is proposed to proceed via a Reformatsky-type reaction of a-bromo ketones, followed by C-C bond sigmatropic rearrangement of the aldolate intermediate to give beta-diketones in moderate to good isolated yields, while aliphatic a-bromomethyl ketones resulted in the formation of 2,4-disubstituted furans or cis-1,2-disubstituted cyclopropanols in moderate yields. The scope of this process was investigated, and a tentative mechanism was proposed.

Abstract:A dual photoredox/palladium catalyzed regio- and enantioselective reductive cross-coupling of allylic acetates with tertiary/secondary alkyl bromides has been achieved, and Hantzsch ester is used as a homogeneous organic reductant. This straightforward protocol enables the stereoselective construction of C(sp(3))-C(sp(3)) bonds under mild reaction conditions. Mechanistic studies suggest that this reaction involves radical pathways and a chiral Pd complex enables the control of the regio- and enantioselectivities.

Abstract:Herein, we report an unprecedented regiospecific oxidative Mizoroki-Heck type reaction for the synthesis of α-difluoromethyl homoallylic alcohols. The reaction shows broad substrate scopes and high functional group tolerance. Late-stage functionalization of complex biologically active molecules demonstrates the synthetic potential of this transformation. Mechanistic study supports the involvement of MnBr2 catalyzed radical 1,2-silyl transfer.

Abstract:Under neutral reaction conditions, sodium triflate promotes the radical reaction of potassium persulfate with water to yield a proton which induces Schmidt rearrangement of alkenyl azides. A variety of substituted acetanilide compounds were synthesized in one step. To obtain the optimal reaction conditions, an arrange of reaction parameters such as radical initiator, solvent, temperature, and reaction time have been screened. This reaction features an easy accessibility of starting materials, simple operation, broad substrate scope and so on. We finally proposed the plausible mechanism based on the mechanistic studies and previous literature.
