Abstract:In this paper, the analysis of the actuality about domestic 3PL is performed on the basis of the data investigated by the Storage Union of China and YANGZHOU logistics planning problem group. The obvious problems about 3PL are also pointed out. Three operation models of 3PL, which are the traditional bargain mode, the strategic union mode and the synthetical group mode, are all concluded. And what's more, the advantages and the disadvantages about the three operation modes are then discussed. Furthermore, three plans about the constitution of the synthetic logistics company are commended. Finally, some pieces of advice and several strategies of development about 3PL are raised.

Exporters' Strategic Orientation towards Third Party Logistics Suppliers: Impacts on Exporters' Logistics Competence and Export Performance

Abstract:A firm's strategic orientation helps develop its capabilities that improve its performance. Collaboration with third party logistics (3PL) suppliers is a key to the success of firms exporting to international markets. There has been phenomenal growth in investment in 3PL services in the past decade. However, very little research has examined how exporters' strategic orientation towards 3PL suppliers helps improve their logistics competence and export performance. Drawing on the resource-based view of the firm and the relationship marketing perspective, we analyzed data from 150 exporters in Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta (PRD) region, China, using structural equation modelling and obtained the following findings: (1) exporters' strategic orientation towards 3PL suppliers has a significant positive impact on 3PL suppliers' core and augmented capabilities, (2) 3PL suppliers' augmented capability has a significant positive impact on exporters' logistics competence, and (3) exporters' logistics competence has a significant positive impact on their own export performance. We also found that the impact of 3PL suppliers' core capability on exporters' logistics competence is positive but only marginally significant. This research contributes both to theory by identifying the performance implications of exporters' strategic orientation towards 3PL suppliers and to practice by providing exporters with insights on treating their 3PL suppliers.

Abstract:Purpose The aim of this paper is to develop an overarching framework to better understand drivers of performance in third‐party logistics (3PL) linked to the operations strategy literature. Design/methodology/approach A path model is specified and estimated based on constructs and relationships grounded in the literature, as well as self‐developed constructs, using empirical data from 159 3PL providers in Hong Kong. Findings Some dimensions of internal and external environments have positive influences on differing operations emphases. Furthermore, operational performance is positively affected by corresponding operations emphases and functional involvement. Finally, good operational performance can bring about better financial performance. However, strict adherence to the low cost operations emphasis will lead to worse financial performance. Originality/value This research provides a novel overarching framework to link competition in the market place, challenges in the operations and functional involvement through operations emphases to operational and financial performance.

Abstract:Purpose - Drawing upon the theory of the resource-based view, the purpose of this paper is to examine the relationships among relational resources, innovation capability and firm performance in the third-party logistics (3PL) industry.Design/methodology/approach - Based on data collected from 203 3PL providers in China, this study adopts the approach of structural equation modeling to examine the hypothesized relationships among relational resources, innovation capability and firm performance.Findings - The results of this research confirm that relational resources have a positive effect on firm performance. However, the effect is not direct, but realized through the mediation of innovation capability. This study indicates that relational resources are important for 3PL providers to achieve superior performance, and innovation capability plays a mediating role between relational resources and firm performance.Originality/value - The main contributions of this paper to the literature are twofold. First, it extends the extant research by highlighting the mediating mechanism of innovation capability in relational resources' influence on firm performance. Second, it advances the existing perspectives on 3PL firms in the Chinese context and this sheds light on logistics research on emerging markets.

Abstract:With fast development of economic and technology all over the world, the prosperity of bulk commodity markets raise more demands on bulk commodity logistics. And more and more bulk commodity transaction platform have been established in China. Therefore the problem that how to make more contribution to the supply chain and provide more value-added services become a new matter faced by the port authorities. Most of the ports at home are still remain in traditional state and play a passive role in the chain. This article offering up supply chain orientation as basic theory, analyzed that whether port-oriented bulk commodity supply chain can be built. Abstract:In order to improve the efficiency of supply chain management (SCM), many enterprises outsourced their logistic operations to professional logistics service providers. The concept of Fourth Party Logistic (4PL) was introduced, and the characteristics and the supporting environment were analyzed firstly. Based on a logistics company, the architecture and the operation mode of TY-4PL in E-business environment were designed, the distribution system was introduced and crucial factors for successful project implementation were put forward. Lastly, the structure and function model of 4PL decision supporting system with reference to the TY-4PL software platform were established and the implement scheme was presented. The system can efficiently manage the logistics and 3PL information. According to online interaction information between customers and providers, the 3PL providers, transportation routes and the transportation tools were chosen, and the optimal logistics scheme was made for decision. All of these guarantee high speed, high quality and low cost of the logistics service for the imports exports of enterprise.

Abstract:Third-party logistics (3PL) services have experienced unprecedented growth. However, we are not aware of any study that explores the relationships among logistics outsourcing, competitive advantage, and business performance. We study the mediating role of logistics outsourcing as a strategy to develop firms' capabilities in the strategy–performance relationship. Drawing on the resource-based view (RBV) of the firm, we develop a research model grounded in the outsourcing-competitive advantage-performance paradigm. We apply structural equation modeling to empirically test the model using data collected from 150 exporters in Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta region of China. The results show that there are positive relationships among exporters' strategic orientation towards third-party logistics (3PL) providers, 3PL providers' basic and augmented capabilities, exporters' competitive advantage, and exporters' export performance. We also find that 3PL providers' augmented capabilities and exporters' competitive advantage are strong mediators, supporting the theorized model underpinned by RBV.

Abstract:<p>To keep their competitive edge and improve customer satisfaction, it is popular for many companies to outsource their logistics to proper Third-Party Logistics (3PL) providers. The evaluation and selection of 3PL providers in their business processes are expected to be solved dynamically. In this paper, based on the theory of automated negotiation, a Dynamic Organization Model (DOM) was designed for an online E-commerce Platform (EP) from the perspective of companies outsourcing logistics. During the negotiation, the involved 3PL provider agents may autonomously make decisions upon both the negotiation context and the dynamic market arguments in an iterative manner, and both the basic attributes of 3PL providers and the historical cooperation data with them are considered. Through comprehensive evaluation and negotiation, the most suitable 3PL provider may be determined as the contractual partner. Finally, the effectiveness of DOM is testified by a case study instantiated with a coal company and several 3PL providers.</p>

Abstract:In recent years, Project Management Maturity Model (PMMM, or PM3) has been attracting more and more attentions in the field of project management, which aims to improve 'process maturity' of a project. However, there are hardly applications or researches of PM3 in construction industries, of which project managements are essential characters. This paper constructs a construction project management maturity model (CPM3) according to the principles of generic PM3 and processes of general construction project. The five maturity levels of CPM3 and the structure of it are presented. Besides these, assessment and improvement methods of construction project management maturity are also discussed. An empirical study based on questionnaires is also processed while assessment analyzing. Implementation of CPM3 and some relevant topics are also discussed.

Abstract:This study explores the relational antecedents of information sharing and process coordination from the two dimensions of relationship commitment (i.e., normative and instrumental relationship commitment), and tests the impacts of two types of 3PL integration on users′performance, and the relationships among different types of performance.Based on data collected from 361 companies, we adopt structural equation modeling ( SEM) to build and examine the relationship commitment-3PL integra-tion-performance model.The results indicate that normative relationship commitment is positively related to both information sha-ring and process coordination, while instrumental relationship commitment does not have significant effects on these outcomes. Information sharing is positively related to 3PL users′delivery performance, but process coordination is positively related to both 3PL users′delivery and flexibility performance.Both information sharing and process coordination are not significantly related to 3PL users′financial performance, but indirectly influence it through delivery and flexibility performance.This study provides managerial implications for 3PL management in China.
