Abstract:A supply chain with a Third Party Logistics (TPL) service provider involved is studied using game theory. The factor of logistics service level is considered to see the effect on the supply chain's total profit. In addition, the profit allocation problem is also discussed in the paper. Then we find out that, when supplier, retailer and TPL use the collaborative decision-making strategy, the sales volume will increase, the logistics service will be improved and the total profit will rise too. With a reasonable allocation method, supply chain members will cooperate actively to realize the Pareto improvement.

Abstract:This study investigates the optimization of cooperation between B2B platform and 3PL for platform-based logistics services. In view of two pricing schemes (i.e., reseller and MSP modes) and two platform types (i.e., decentralized and centralized platforms), we use game theory and propose four pricing models to explore the interactions between the platform and 3PL under different scenarios. Optimal solutions of four analytical models are provided. By comparison analyses, we evaluate the effects of pricing schemes on the service prices and performance of both players. We find that the switch from the reseller mode to the MSP mode does not influence the service price of decentralized platforms, but it increases that of centralized platforms. The decentralized platform always chooses the MSP mode to improve profit, whereas the centralized platform will adopt the reseller mode to achieve higher social welfare. Conversely, their logistics partners have the opposite preferences. We also evaluate the effects of platform types on service prices. Results show that users of the centralized platform can pay less on logistics services than those of the decentralized platform. In addition, the preference of 3PLs on platform types is significantly influenced by the loyalty type of users and their attitude to the platform channel.

Abstract:Based on the different roles of 3PL (third party logistics) firms in a capital-constrained supply chain,this paper divides the structures of supply chain into three different types:convention model,delegation model,and control model,and investigates the operational and financial decisions of firms under the rupply chain with different type.and investigates the operational and financial de- cisions of firms under the supply chain with different type.The paper shows that the financing serv- ice can not create value for the capital -constrained supply chain under convention model with the asymmetric information,while financing service with the support from 3PL firm in both delegation and control models could create value for the supply chain with capital constraints.Furthermore,the paper shows that the role of control mode for the 3 PL firm is the optimal role in the capital-constrain- ed supply chain,compared with the other two roles.

Abstract:Outsourcing is an increasingly important task pursued by enterprises seeking improved efficiency. Logistics outsourcing, or third-party logistics (3PL), involves the use of external companies to perform some or all of the firm's logistics activities. In this paper, through analyzing the features and role of third-party logistics, for 3PL provider selection, we propose an indicator system and a method for data integration. We also establish a comprehensive evaluation model for 3PL suppliers based on fuzzy sets; furthermore, we propose a compound quantification model based on centralized quantification values, a comparison method based on the synthesis effect, and a 3PL supplier selection model. A real-world case analysis is provided. The results show that the proposed 3PL supplier selection model can effectively integrate decision preferences into decision processes.

Abstract:In this paper, the analysis of the actuality about domestic 3PL is performed on the basis of the data investigated by the Storage Union of China and YANGZHOU logistics planning problem group. The obvious problems about 3PL are also pointed out. Three operation models of 3PL, which are the traditional bargain mode, the strategic union mode and the synthetical group mode, are all concluded. And what's more, the advantages and the disadvantages about the three operation modes are then discussed. Furthermore, three plans about the constitution of the synthetic logistics company are commended. Finally, some pieces of advice and several strategies of development about 3PL are raised.

Abstract:The third-party logistics plays an important role in enhancing core competition strength of an enterprise, improving added-value service, reducing cost of logistics and optimizing enterprise resources etc, but whether the above aims can be achieved depends on the ability and service of logistics vendors. It is of critical importance to the success of enterprise's outsourcing to choose an appropriate third-party logistics vendor. This paper, based on a new system analysis theory-set pair analysis(SPA), evaluates optional logistics vendors. The paper overcomes the shortcomings of the existing methods and contributes to the selection of the third-party logistics vendors on the basis of some objective information provided by our model.

Abstract:<p>To keep their competitive edge and improve customer satisfaction, it is popular for many companies to outsource their logistics to proper Third-Party Logistics (3PL) providers. The evaluation and selection of 3PL providers in their business processes are expected to be solved dynamically. In this paper, based on the theory of automated negotiation, a Dynamic Organization Model (DOM) was designed for an online E-commerce Platform (EP) from the perspective of companies outsourcing logistics. During the negotiation, the involved 3PL provider agents may autonomously make decisions upon both the negotiation context and the dynamic market arguments in an iterative manner, and both the basic attributes of 3PL providers and the historical cooperation data with them are considered. Through comprehensive evaluation and negotiation, the most suitable 3PL provider may be determined as the contractual partner. Finally, the effectiveness of DOM is testified by a case study instantiated with a coal company and several 3PL providers.</p>

Abstract:To solve the problem of third-party logistics (3PL) evaluation and selection, a hybrid method with AHP and gray theory is proposed. First, the literature review about the 3PL evaluation method and technology is introduced. Furthermore, TPL comprehensive service capability evaluation system is established from aspects of service, time, cost and enterprise qualification. Besides, a comprehensive evaluation model process with gray entropy and AHP is introduced. Finally, a detailed evaluation process of 3PL supplier service capability in F company is introduced by an example, and the results show that the evaluation method in the paper is helpful to choose the TPL for logistics outsourcing.

Abstract:This paper studies a freight transportation market with two firms providing transportation services between two locations. Demands for transportation service in two directions are heterogeneous in market size, price sensitivity and competition intensity etc. Firms make decisions on transportation prices. Realized demand in these two directions can be unbalanced. To sustain the business, firms have to reposition empty equipment from a surplus location to a shortage location. We build a mathematical model to study the pricing policy and outcome of competition between two firms. The pricing policy is either to achieve the balance of realized demands or treat the demand in each direction independently. Furthermore, we corroborate how the profit is affected by price sensitivity and unit repositioning cost. It is surprising to find that profit may increase with price sensitivity and unit repositioning cost in a competitive market.

Abstract:As competition in the cross-border logistics-service market intensifies and demand rises, enterprises with third-party logistics (3PL) combine logistical and financial services to provide comprehensive services. This study considers a secondary supply chain consisting of a cross-border e-commerce enterprise and a 3PL enterprise. When cross-border e-commerce enterprises lack funds, 3PL enterprises can provide them with inventory pledge loans. Thus, we establish a Stackelberg game model between the abovementioned parties. We consider the stochastic fluctuation of exchange rate and demand, establish a combined decision model of the logistics-service level and financial service pledge rate of the 3PL enterprise when logistics services affect offshore market demand, and prove the existence of an optimal solution. Studies have shown that the optimal logistics-service level and pledge rate increase with an increase in import tariffs and logistics sensitivity coefficients in offshore markets. Meanwhile, they decrease with an increase in the capability coefficient of 3PL enterprises, exchange rate fluctuation, default rate, and price sensitivity factor in offshore markets. In addition, the more capable 3PL enterprises are, the greater the expected profitability of the entire supply chain. We also utilize authentic data to verify the abovementioned inference and establish its validity.

The Role of 3PL in Budget-Constrained Supply Chain

Abstract:The paper examines the impact of the role of 3PL on the performance of a two-level supply chain with a supplier and a budget-constrained retailer. We define two alternative roles of 3PL in a budget-constrained supply chain: Convention and Delegation. In convention model, the 3PL offers a traditional role of logistics providers, while in delegation model the 3PL presents the role of both logistics and financing providers by allying the bank. We show that under a symmetric information, there is no difference for the payoffs of individual firm and the entire supply chain in both convention and Delegation settings, and the competitive financial market can decouple retailer's operational and financial decisions. However, in an asymmetric information setting, the payoff of individual firm in delegation model is better off than that in conventional model.

Abstract:Integrated logistics and financial services have been practiced by third party logistics (3PL) firms for years; however, the literature has been silent on the value of 3PL firms as credit providers in budget-constrained supply chains. This paper investigates an extended supply chain model with a supplier, a budget-constrained retailer, a bank, and a 3PL firm, in which the retailer has insufficient initial budget and may borrow or obtain trade credit from either a bank (traditional role) or a 3PL firm (control role). Our analysis indicates that the control role model yields higher profits not only for the 3PL firm but also for the supplier, the retailer, and the entire supply chain. In comparison with a supplier credit model where the supplier provides the trade credit, the control role model yields a better performance for the supply chain as long as the 3PL firm’s marginal profit is greater than that of the supplier. We further demonstrate that, for all players, both the control role and supplier credit models can outperform the classic newsvendor model without budget constraint.

Abstract:Nowadays, enterprises typically outsource their logistics needs to logisticsagents, who have become vital partners in managing supply chains. The logisticsneeds in a supply chain consist of many different interrelated services, eachwith its own set of requirements and constraints. A logistics agent mightspecialize in the provision of a single logistics service or might provide arange of services. The selection of logistics agent(s) cannot be separated intoa series of stand-alone selections as the decisions are interrelated. Decisionmakers must assess the merits of individual activity-agent combinations, as wellas their interrelationships along the entire supply chain. Such an evaluation isnon-trivial, because both tangible and intangible elements are involved. In thisresearch, we model the selection problem using analytic network process, amultiattribute decision-making methodology suitable for assessing interdependentelements, both tangible and intangible. We examine the significance ofintegration and consolidation of shipments, the trade-offs between costs,benefits and risks within activities of the logistics process, and the differingroles of traditional freight forwarders and integrators.

Abstract:On the basis of the in-depth analysis about the complexity of procurement market for crude oil and procurement risks that manufacturers may face,we build a simple supply chain system model.This model introduces the method of portfolio management and incorporates comprehensive factors that affect procurement,such as financial constraints in the supply chain.Then we run the model with the help of the agent technology for supply chain modeling and simulation.Analysis of simulation results shows that compared to traditional mathematics and system dynamics method,agent is better suited to describe the kind of complex problems which are hard to solve because of features of autonomy,adaptability and distribution.With the evolution of the procurement process,the manufacturer agent can get the portfolio strategy based on forecast through the learning of oil prices and demand fluctuations.The strategy is helpful to maximize profits and effectively control risks at the same time,balance procurement inventory cost and the financial cost so as to enhance the capacity for sustainable development.
