Abstract:The microstructural evolution during the cold drawing of a pearlitic wire, especially the deformation and dissolution of cementite were studied using SEM,TEM and XRD.The results show that the cementite shows good deformability, the lamellar microstructure turns to the drawing direction gradually with increase of strain. In the microstructure of steel wires at high strain, the thickness of cementite plates are small, only 0.5 nm or less in some area.In the initial wire, the ferrite is supersaturated with carbons, and probably changes into the tetragonal martensite after strain e=1.51.Only a small amount of cementite dissolves at strain e =1.51.In the wire samples at high strain, the deformation and morphology of cementite can be taken into account when the atom probe field emission microscope is used to obtain the carbon density to check whether the cementite has dissolved or not.
