Abstract:We show that exchangeable structures such as Polya urn model and Chinese restaurant process can be constructed from sets with a real number of elements. From this construction, the exchangeability of these structures becomes obvious and the calculations on them become extremely simple. Moreover, the usual calculations on these structures, which involve induction, integrals and Jacobian determinants, now can be done by simple combinatorial calculations.

Abstract:In this paper, we construct the so-called q-Schur modules as left principle ideals of cyclotomic q-Schur algebras, and prove that they are isomorphic to those cell modules defined in [3] and [10] in any level r. After that, mainly, we prove that these q-Schur modules are free and construct their basis. This result gives the new versions of some several known results such as standard basis and the branching theorem. With the help of this realizations and the new basis, we give a new proof of the Branch rule of Weyl modules which was first discovered by Wada in [20].

Abstract:Racks and quandles are algebraic structures with a single binary operation that is right self-distributive and right invertible, and additionally idempotent in the case of quandles. The invertibility condition is equivalent to the existence of a second binary operation that acts as a right inverse to the first, so that racks and quandles may also be viewed as algebraic structures with a pair of (dependent) binary operations. When forming a quotient rack or quandle it is necessary to take this two-operation view, and define a congruence as an equivalence relation on the rack or quandle that respects both operations. However, in defining a congruence some authors have omitted the condition on the inverse operation, and defined a congruence as an equivalence relation respecting the primary operation only. We show that while respecting the primary operation is sufficient in the case of finite racks and quandles, it is not in general sufficient in the infinite case. We do this by constructing explicit examples of "half congruences": equivalence relations that respect exactly one of the two operations. Our work also allows us to completely characterise congruences in connected Alexander quandles.

Abstract:Following the article of C. M. Ringel we introduce preprojective algebras of a Dynkin quiver Q starting from three definitions which, despite concerning completely different algebraic structures, turn out to be equivalent. Our main result is a new version of Ringel’s proofs that applies a theorem by Happel and exploits the techniques of homological algebra. Moreover we show that the definition of the preprojective algebra given with the usual notion of commutator is equivalent to the definition with the "generalised" commutator.

Abstract:In this paper we generalize the notions of n -isometry and n -equivalence introduced by Chen et al. to classify constacyclic codes of length over a finite field , to the case of constacyclic codes over a finite chain ring R . We show that these notions define equivalence relations on , give equivalent characterizations of these relations and investigate the link between them. We then compute the numbers of n -isometry and n -equivalence classes for each type of finite chain rings, as well as describe methods to find these classes. In doing so, the study of constacyclic codes on a finite chain ring R is reduced significantly, as instead of considering -constacyclic codes for each unit in , it suffices to only consider units in a set of representatives of the equivalence classes.

Comparability digraphs: An analogue of comparability graphs

Abstract:Comparability graphs are a popular class of graphs. We introduce as the digraph analogue of comparability graphs the class of comparability digraphs. We show that many concepts such as implication classes and the knotting graph for a comparability graph can be naturally extended to a comparability digraph. We give a characterization of comparability digraphs in terms of their knotting graphs. Semicomplete comparability digraphs are a prototype of comparability digraphs. One instrumental technique for analyzing the structure of comparability graphs is the Triangle Lemma for graphs. We generalize the Triangle Lemma to semicomplete digraphs. Using the Triangle Lemma for semicomplete digraphs we prove that if an implication class of a semicomplete digraph contains no circuit of length 2 then it contains no circuit at all. We also use it to device an $\mathcal{O}(n^3)$ time recognition algorithm for semicomplete comparability digraphs where $n$ is the number of vertices of the input digraph. The correctness of the algorithm implies a characterization for semicomplete comparability digraphs, akin to that for comparability graphs.

Abstract:A ring extension is a ring homomorphism preserving identities. In this paper, we give the definitions of relative injective envelopes and relative projective covers of modules on ring extensions, and study their basic properties. In particular, we give their equivalent characterizations in terms of relative essential monomorphisms and relative superfluous epimorphisms, and prove that relative injective envelopes and relative projective covers on ring extensions are unique up to isomorphism whenever they exist. Moreover, for an extension of Artin algebras, we show that every finitely generated module has both a relative injective envelope and a relative projective cover. In addition, we compare relative injective envelopes and relative projective covers on two ring extensions linked by surjective homomorphisms of rings respectively.

Abstract:It is proved that, for a left hereditary ring, an arbitrary left module has a representation in the form of the direct sum of a stable left module and indecomposable projective left modules (if and only if an arbitrary left module has a representation in the form of the direct sum of a stable left module and a projective left module) if and only if the ring is left perfect and right coherent. In that case, the above-mentioned representations are unique up to isomorphism; the latter representation is also functorial. The essential ingredient in the proofs of the above-mentioned statements is a certain purely categorical result. These statements, in particular, imply that, for any principal ideal domain that is not a field, the fundamental theorem on finitely generated modules over it can not be generalized to the case of all modules. Moreover, with the aid of the above-mentioned categorical approach, we give a new proof of the Zheng-Xu He's result asserting that any module of a ring has a unique up to isomorphism injective-costable decomposition if and only if the ring is left hereditary and left Noetherian. The above-mentioned statements, in particular, imply that if the category of left modules over a left hereditary ring is Krull-Schmidt, then the ring is left Artinian. Yet another criterion for a ring to be left hereditary, left perfect and right coherent (resp. left hereditary left Noetherian) found in the paper requires that the pair $(Stable$ $modules$, $Projective$ $modules)$ (resp. $(Injective$ $Modules, Costable$ $ Modules)$) of module classes be a pre-torsion theory. This implies that the pair $(Stable$ $modules$, $Projective$ $modules)$ is a torsion theory if and only if the ring is left hereditary and the injective envelope of the ring, viewed as a left module over itself, is projective.

Abstract:It is shown that n-stable range conditions over exchange rings can be inherited by general contexts. By introducing strongly separative modules, the authors extend this result to strongly separative rings. These provide new classes of exchange rings with cancellations of modules.

Abstract:In this article, cyclic codes and negacyclic codes over formal power series rings are studied. The structure of cyclic codes over this class of rings is given, and the relationship between these codes and cyclic codes over finite chain rings is obtained. Using an isomorphism between cyclic and negacyclic codes over formal power series rings, the structure of negacyclic codes over the formal power series rings is obtained.

Abstract:The study of rings and modules with homological criteria is a cornerstone of commutative algebra. Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring with identity (not necessarily local) and $\frak a$ a proper ideal of $R$. In this paper, a relative analogue of the theory of homological rings and modules is developed. We introduce the notions of $\frak a$-relative regular, $\frak a$-relative complete intersection, and $\frak a$-relative Gorenstein rings and modules. We extend some classical results by demonstrating some interactions between these types of rings and modules.

Abstract:From the original PREFACE: The rings of quotients recently introduced by Johnson and Utumi are applied to the ring $C(X)$ of all continuous real-valued functions on a completely regular space $X$. Let $Q(X)$ denote the maximal ring of quotients of $C(X)$; then $Q(X)$ may be realized as the ring of all continuous functions on the dense open sets of $X$ (modulo an obvious equivalence relation). In special cases (e.g., for metric $X$), $Q(X)$ reduces to the classical ring of quotients of $C(X)$ (formed with respect to the regular elements), but in general, the classical ring is only a proper sub-ring of $Q(X)$.

Abstract:Admissible chains of i-boxes are important combinatorial tools in the monoidal categorification of cluster algebras, as they provide seeds of the cluster algebra. In this paper, we explore the properties of maximal commuting families of i-boxes in a more general setting, and define a certain matrix associated with such a family, which we call the exchange matrix. It turns out that, when considering the cluster algebra structure on the Grothendieck rings, this matrix is indeed the exchange matrix of the seed associated with the family, both in certain categories of modules over quantum affine algebras and over quiver Hecke algebras. We prove this by constructing explicit short exact sequences that represent the mutation relations.
