Abstract:This paper enriches the list of properties of the congruence sequences starting from the universal relation and successively performing the operations of lower $t$ and lower $k$. Three classes of completely regular semigroups, namely semigroups for which $\ker{\sigma}$ is a cryptogroup, semigroups for which $\ker{\nu}$ is a cryptogroup and semigroups for which $\kappa$ is over rectangular bands, are studied. $((\omega_t)_k)_t$, $((\mathcal{D}_t)_k)_t$ and $((\omega_k)_t)_k$ are found to be the least congruences on $S$ such that the quotient semigroups are semigroups for which $\ker{\sigma}$ is a cryptogroup, $\ker{\nu}$ is a cryptogroup and $\kappa$ is over rectangular bands, respectively. The results obtained present a response to three problems in Petrich and Reilly's textbook \textquoteleft\textquoteleft Completely Regular Semigroups\textquoteright\textquoteright.
On Hua Semigroups

Abstract:A semigroup is called a Hua semigroup if any mapping h : S -> S satisfying (for all a, b is an element of S) h(ab) = h(a)h(b) or h(b)h(a) is either a homomorphism or an anti-homomorphism. We use this name for such a semigroup since it is relevant to a well-known result in ring theory, which is established by L. K. Hua in 1949. C. M. Reis and H. J. Shyr first translated Hua's result from rings to semigroups in 1977. In this paper, elementary characterizations, a hierarchy and closure properties of the class of Hua semigroups and its four subclasses are given. We show that every cancellative semigroup is a Hua semigroup, which generalizes Reis and Shyr's result.
Some properties of congruence lattices of path semigroups

Abstract:Each quiver corresponds to a path semigroup, and such a path semigroup also corresponds to an associative K-algebra over an algebraically closed field K. Let Q be a quiver and S_Q, KQ be its path semigroup, path algebra, respectively. In this paper, we study some properties of the congruence lattice of S_Q. First, we show that there is a one-to-one correspondence between congruences on S and certain algebraic ideals of KQ. Based on such a description, we consider acyclic quivers and show that the congruence latices of such path semigroups are strong upper semimodular but not necessarily lower semimodular. Moreover, we provide some equivalent conditions for the congruence lattices to be modular and distributive.

Abstract:In this paper,a special kind of partial algebras called projective partial groupoids is defined.It is proved that the inverse image of all projections of a fundamental weak regular * -semigroup underthe homomorphism induced by the maximum idempotent-separating congruence of a weak regular * -semigroup has a projective partial groupoid structure.Moreover,a weak regular * -product whichconnects a fundamental weak regular * -semigroup with corresponding projective partial groupoid isdefined and characterized.It is finally proved that every weak regular * -product is in fact a weakregular * -semigroup and any weak regular * -semigroup is constructed in this way.

Abstract:A specialization semilattice is a semilattice together with a coarser preorder satisfying a compatibility condition. We show that the category of specialization semilattices is isomorphic to the category of semilattices with a congruence, hence equivalent to the category of semilattice epimorphisms. Guided by the above example, we hint to an ``internal'' characterization of surjective homomorphisms between general relational systems.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to research the relation among generalized path algebras, pseudo-admissible ordered semigroup algebras and path algebras over algebras. First, the Gabriel theorem for contract pseudo-admissible ordered semigroup algebras is given. Second, a family of pseudo-admissible ordered semigroups is mixed together via the method of generalized path algebras to construct a new pseudo-admissible ordered semigroup as the extended version. Finally, we characterize the path algebra over an algebra in two ways through normal and non-normal generalized path algebras, respectively, over a field.

Abstract:In this paper we present an algorithm for computing a congruence on an inverse semigroup from a collection of generating pairs. This algorithm uses a myriad of techniques from computational group theory, automata, and the theory of inverse semigroups. An initial implementation of this algorithm outperforms existing implementations by several orders of magnitude.

Abstract:We classify essential algebras whose irredundant non-refinable covers consist of primal algebras. The proof is obtained by constructing one to one correspondence between such algebras and partial orders on finite sets. Further, we prove that for a finite algebra, it has an irredundant non-refinable cover consists of primal algebras if and only if it is the both congruence primal and arithmetical. Finally, we obtain combinatorial description of congruence primal arithmetical algebras.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the class of affine semigroup generated by integral vectors, whose components are in generalised arithmetic progression and we observe that the defining ideal is determinantal. We also give a sufficient condition on the defining ideal of the semigroup ring for the equality of the Betti numbers of the defining ideal and those of its initial ideal. We introduce the notion of an affine semigroup generated by join of two affine semigroups and show that this affine semigroup exhibits some nice properties including Cohen-Macaulayness.

Computing finite index congruences of finitely presented semigroups and monoids

Abstract:In this paper we describe an algorithm for computing the left, right, or 2-sided congruences of a finitely presented semigroup or monoid with finitely many classes, and alternative algorithm when the finitely presented semigroup or monoid is finite. We compare the two algorithms presented to existing algorithms and implementations. The first algorithm is a generalization of Sims' low index subgroup algorithm for finding the congruences of a monoid. The second algorithm involves determining the distinct principal congruences, and then finding all of their possible joins. Variations of this algorithm have been suggested in numerous contexts by numerous authors. We show how to utilise the theory of relative Green's relations, and a version of Schreier's Lemma for monoids, to reduce the number of principal congruences that must be generated as the first step of this approach. Both of the algorithms described in this paper are implemented in the GAP package Semigroups, and the first algorithm is available in the C++ library libsemigroups and in its python bindings libsemigroups_pybind.

Then we give alternative characterizations for the trace of a congruence and idempotent separating congruences. Abstract:Let $\mathscr{C}_{+}(a,b)$ be the submooid of the bicyclic monoid which which is studied in \cite{Makanjuola-Umar=1997}. We describe monoid endomorphisms of the semigroup $\mathscr{C}_{+}(a,b)$ which are generated by the family of all congruences of the bicyclic monoid and all injective monoid endomorphisms of $\mathscr{C}_{+}(a,b)$.

Abstract:This article starts by relating formations of inverse semigroups, of congruences on inverse semigroups and of congruences on free inverse semigroups. Then, i-formations of idempotent separating congruences and of languages are defined and their classes are proved to be in bijection, and in bijection with f-formations of inverse semigroups. In the second part, the concepts of i-Fitting class of inverse semigroups, of congruences and of languages are introduced. Bijections between s-fitting classes of inverse semigroups, i-fitting classes of congruences and i-fitting classes of languages are presented. Of special relevance are results on formations and Fitting classes induced by the inverse case on the group case.

For $\varnothing \neq Z\subseteq Y\subseteq X$, let $\mathcal{T}(X,Y,Z)=\{\alpha \in \mathcal{T}(X): Y\alpha \subseteq Z \}$. Then $\mathcal{T}(X,Y,Z)$ is a subsemigroup of $\mathcal{T}(X)$. In this paper, we characterize the regular elements of the semigroup $\mathcal{T}(X,Y,Z)$, and present a necessary and sufficient condition under which $\mathcal{T}(X,Y,Z)$ is regular. Furthermore, we investigate the abundance of the semigroup $\mathcal{T}(X,Y,Z)$ for the case $Z\subsetneq Y\subsetneq X$. In addition, we compute the cardinalities of $\mathcal{T}(X,Y,Z)$, ${\rm Reg}(\mathcal{T}(X,Y,Z))$ and ${\rm E}(\mathcal{T}(X,Y,Z))$ when $X$ is finite, respectively.
