Abstract:A semigroup is called a Hua semigroup if any mapping h : S -> S satisfying (for all a, b is an element of S) h(ab) = h(a)h(b) or h(b)h(a) is either a homomorphism or an anti-homomorphism. We use this name for such a semigroup since it is relevant to a well-known result in ring theory, which is established by L. K. Hua in 1949. C. M. Reis and H. J. Shyr first translated Hua's result from rings to semigroups in 1977. In this paper, elementary characterizations, a hierarchy and closure properties of the class of Hua semigroups and its four subclasses are given. We show that every cancellative semigroup is a Hua semigroup, which generalizes Reis and Shyr's result.

Abstract:The main results obtained in this paper are as follows: For a commutative semi-ring, we (introduce) a new definition for localization, and discuss its properties; For commutative semi-rings A_1,A_2,…, and A_n, it is proved that the localization of the direct product A_1×A_2×…×A_n is isormorphic to the direct product of the localizations of A_1,A_2,…,and A_n; It is proved that the localization of a (commutative) semi-ring possesses the universal property.

Abstract:In this paper, we describe the relationships between pseudo MV algebras and semirings. We also give definitions of automata on lattice ordered semirings, prove that the family of K-Languages is closed under union, and discuss the conditions for the closedness of families of K-languages under intersection, generalized intersection and reversal operations.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce Indigenous semirings and show that they are examples of information algebras. We also attribute a graph to them and discuss their diameters, girths, and clique numbers. Then, we proceed to investigate their algebraic properties (including ideal theory). We also characterize units and idempotent elements of formal power series over Indigenous semirings.

On semisubtractive ideals of semirings

Abstract:Our aim in this paper is to explore semisubtractive ideals of semirings. We prove that they form a complete modular lattice. We introduce Golan closures and prove some of their basic properties. We explore the relations between $Q$-ideals and semisubtractive ideals of semirings, and also study them in $s$-local semirings. We introduce two subclasses of semisubtractive ideals: $s$-strongly irreducible and $s$-irreducible, and provide various representation theorems. By endowing a topology on the set of semisubtractive ideals, we prove that the space is $T_0$, sober, connected, and quasi-compact. We also briefly study continuous maps between semisubtractive spaces. We construct $s$-congruences and prove a bijection between these congruences and semisubtractive ideals.

Locality Theorems in Semiring Semantics

Abstract:Semiring semantics of first-order logic generalises classical Boolean semantics by permitting truth values from a commutative semiring, which can model information such as costs or access restrictions. This raises the question to what extent classical model theoretic properties still apply, and how this depends on the algebraic properties of the semiring. In this paper, we study this question for the classical locality theorems due to Hanf and Gaifman. We prove that Hanf's Locality Theorem generalises to all semirings with idempotent operations, but fails for many non-idempotent semirings. We then consider Gaifman normal forms and show that for formulae with free variables, Gaifman's Theorem does not generalise beyond the Boolean semiring. Also for sentences, it fails in the natural semiring and the tropical semiring. Our main result, however, is a constructive proof of the existence of Gaifman normal forms for min-max and lattice semirings. The proof implies a stronger version of Gaifman's classical theorem in Boolean semantics: every sentence has a Gaifman normal form which does not add negations.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce the definition of groupoid graded rings. Group graded rings, (skew) groupoid rings, artinian semisimple rings, matrix rings and others can be regarded as special kinds of groupoid graded rings. Our main task is to classify strongly groupoid graded rings by cohomology of groupoids. Some classical results about group graded rings are generalized to groupoid graded rings. In particular, the Clifford Theorem for a strongly groupoid graded ring is given.

Abstract:Sufficient conditions are obtained under which the semigroup ring of a semigroup, in particular, of an inverse semigroup, is weakly regular. For some inverse semigroups and some orthodox semigroups, the necessary and sufficient conditions for the weak regularity of the semigroup rings are found. A problem is mentioned especially which is much more difficult for weak regularity than for regularity. Only a partial solution of this problem is given for weak regularity.

Abstract:A semiring generalises the notion of a ring, replacing the additive abelian group structure with that of a commutative monoid. In this paper, we study a notion positioned between a ring and a semiring -- a semiring whose additive monoid is a commutative inverse semigroup. These inverse semirings include some important classes of semirings, as well as some new motivating examples. We devote particular attention to the inverse semiring of bounded polynomials and argue for their computational significance. We then prove a number of fundamental results about inverse semirings, their modules and their ideals. Parts of the theory show strong similarities with rings, while other parts are akin to the theory of idempotent semirings or distributive lattices. We note in particular that downward-closed submodules are precisely kernels. We end by exploring a connection to the theory of E-unitary inverse semigroups.

It is known that algebraic properties such as singularities of a numerical semigroup ring are properties of a flat numerical semigroup algebra. In this paper, we show that arithmetic and set-theoretic properties of a numerical semigroup ring are properties of an equi-gcd numerical semigroup algebra.

Abstract:We study the theory of equations in one variable over polyhedral semirings. The article revolves around a notion of solution to a polynomial equation over a polyhedral semiring. Our main results are a characterisation of local solutions in terms of the coefficients, a local-global principle, and the basics of multiplicity and discriminants. Our primary sources of motivation are tropical geometry and the theory of exceptional points in non-Hermitian physics.

Abstract:We give a criterion for almost Gorenstein property for semigroup rings associated with simplicial semigroups. We extend Nari's theorem for almost symmetric numerical semigroups to simplicial semigroups with higher rank. By this criterion, we determine $2$-dimensional normal semigroup rings which have ``Ulrich elements'' defined in [Herzog-Jafari-Stamate].

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate zero-divisor, nilpotent, idempotent, unit, small, and irreducible elements in semiring extensions such as amount, content, and monoid semialgebras. We also introduce new concepts such as the prime avoidance property in semirings, entire-like semirings, semialgebras with Property (A), and also, Armendariz and McCoy semialgebras and we prove some results related to these concepts. For example, we prove that if $B$ is an $S$-semialgebra, then under some conditions, the set of zero-divisors $Z(B)$ of $B$ is the union of the extended maximal primes of $Z(S)$. Finally, we prove a generalization of Eisenstein's irreducibility criterion.
