Abstract:A difficult question arising in the study of effect algebras is how to equip them with a fitting and proper topology such that the topology is compatible with the partial operations ⊕ and Θ. As we know, the Frink ideal topology is an important intrinsic topology for studying partially ordered set theory; in particular, it is the correct topology for chains and direct products of a finite number of chains. In this paper, we show that the Frink ideal topology is also a nice topology for studying effect-algebra theory since it provides the operations with some of the expected continuity properties.

Abstract:<p>Our main goal is to develop a representation for finite distributive nearlattices through certain ordered structures. This representation generalizes the well-known representation given by Birkhoff for finite distributive lattices through finite posets. We also study finite distributive nearlattices through the concepts of dual atoms, boolean elements, complemented elements and irreducible elements. We prove that the sets of boolean elements and complemented elements form semi-boolean algebras. We show that the set of boolean elements of a finite distributive lattice is a boolean lattice.</p>

Decomposition theorem on matchable distributive lattices

Abstract:A distributive lattice structure ${\mathbf M}(G)$ has been established on the set of perfect matchings of a plane bipartite graph $G$. We call a lattice {\em matchable distributive lattice} (simply MDL) if it is isomorphic to such a distributive lattice. It is natural to ask which lattices are MDLs. We show that if a plane bipartite graph $G$ is elementary, then ${\mathbf M}(G)$ is irreducible. Based on this result, a decomposition theorem on MDLs is obtained: a finite distributive lattice $\mathbf{L}$ is an MDL if and only if each factor in any cartesian product decomposition of $\mathbf{L}$ is an MDL. Two types of MDLs are presented: $J(\mathbf{m}\times \mathbf{n})$ and $J(\mathbf{T})$, where $\mathbf{m}\times \mathbf{n}$ denotes the cartesian product between $m$-element chain and $n$-element chain, and $\mathbf{T}$ is a poset implied by any orientation of a tree.

Abstract:We prove a representation theorem for totally ordered idempotent monoids via a nested sum construction. Using this representation theorem we obtain a characterization of the subdirectly irreducible members of the variety of semilinear idempotent distributive l -monoids and a proof that its lattice of subvarieties is countably infinite. For the variety of commutative idempotent distributive l -monoids we give an explicit description of its lattice of subvarieties and show that each of its subvarieties is finitely axiomatized. Finally we give a characterization of which spans of totally ordered idempotent monoids have an amalgam in the class of totally ordered monoids, showing in particular that the class of totally ordered commutative idempotent monoids has the strong amalgamation property and that various classes of distributive l -monoids do not have the amalgamation property. We also show that exactly seven non-trivial finitely generated subvarieties of the variety of semilinear idempotent distributive l -monoids have the amalgamation property; we are able to determine for all but three of its subvarieties whether they have the amalgamation property or not.

Abstract:Birkhoff's representation theorem (Birkhoff, Duke Math J 3(3):443–454, 1937) defines a bijection between elements of a distributive lattice and the family of upper sets of an associated poset. Although not used explicitly, this result is at the backbone of the combinatorial algorithm by Irving et al. (J ACM 34(3):532-543, 1987) for maximizing a linear function over the set of stable matchings in Gale and Shapley's stable marriage model (Gale and Shapley, Am Math Monthly 69(1):9–15 1962). In this paper, we introduce a property of distributive lattices, which we term as affine representability, and show its role in efficiently solving linear optimization problems over the elements of a distributive lattice, as well as describing the convex hull of the characteristic vectors of the lattice elements. We apply this concept to the stable matching model with path-independent quota-filling choice functions, thus giving efficient algorithms and a compact polyhedral description for this model. To the best of our knowledge, this model generalizes all those for which similar results were known, and our paper is the first that proposes efficient algorithms for stable matchings with choice functions, beyond classical extensions of the Deferred Acceptance algorithm.

Abstract:In this paper we introduce the class of weak Heyting–Brouwer algebras (WHB-algebras, for short). We extend the well known duality between distributive lattices and Priestley spaces, in order to exhibit a relational Priestley-like duality for WHB-algebras. Finally, as an application of the duality, we build the tense extension of a WHB-algebra and we employ it as a tool for proving structural properties of the variety such as the finite model property, the amalgamation property, the congruence extension property and the Maehara interpolation property.

Abstract:This paper studies the differential lattice, defined to be a lattice L equipped with a map d:L→L\documentclass[12pt]{minimal}\usepackage{amsmath}\usepackage{wasysym}\usepackage{amsfonts}\usepackage{amssymb}\usepackage{amsbsy}\usepackage{mathrsfs}\usepackage{upgreek}\setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt}\begin{document}$$d:L\rightarrow L$$\end{document} that satisfies a lattice analog of the Leibniz rule for a derivation. Isomorphic differential lattices are studied and classifications of differential lattices are obtained for some basic lattices. Several families of derivations on a lattice are explicitly constructed, giving realizations of the lattice as lattices of derivations. Derivations on a finite distributive lattice are shown to have a natural structure of lattice. Moreover, derivations on a complete infinitely distributive lattice form a complete lattice. For a general lattice, it is conjectured that its poset of derivations is a lattice that uniquely determines the given lattice.

Choice-free Dualities for Lattice Expansions: Application to Logics with a Negation Operator

Abstract:Constructive dualities have been recently proposed for some lattice based algebras and a related project has been outlined by Holliday and Bezhanishvili, aiming at obtaining "choice-free spatial dualities for other classes of algebras [$\ldots$], giving rise to choice-free completeness proofs for non-classical logics''. We present in this article a way to complete the Holliday-Bezhanishvili project (uniformly, for any normal lattice expansion) by recasting recent relational representation and duality results in a choice-free manner. These results have some affinity with the Moshier and Jipsen duality for bounded lattices with quasi-operators, except for aiming at representing operators by relations, extending the Jónsson-Tarski approach for BAOs, and Dunn's follow up approach for distributive gaggles, to contexts where distribution may not be assumed. To illustrate, we apply the framework to lattices (and their logics) with some form or other of a (quasi)complementation operator, obtaining canonical extensions in relational frames and choice-free dualities for lattices with a minimal, or a Galois quasi-complement, or involutive lattices, including De Morgan algebras, as well as Ortholattices and Boolean algebras, as special cases.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the complete lattice Q(L) of all quotients of a complete Boolean algebra L. We show that Q(L) is a complete Boolean algebra for a complete Boolean algebra L by establishing an isomorphism between the set Q′(L) of all q-sets of L and Q(L). Some characterizations of the quotients of a complete Boolean algebra L and some properties of the category of complete Boolean algebras are obtained.

Abstract:Categories enriched over a commutative unital quantale can be studied as generalized, or many-valued, ordered structures. Because many concepts, such as complete distributivity, in lattice theory can be characterized by existence of certain adjunctions, they can be reformulated in the many-valued setting in terms of categorical postulations. So, it is possible, by aid of categorical machineries, to establish theories of many-valued complete lattices, many-valued completely distributive lattices, and so on. This paper presents a systematical investigation of many-valued complete distributivity, including the topics: (1) subalgebras and quotient algebras of many-valued completely distributive lattices; (2) categories of (left adjoint) functors; and (3) the relationship between many-valued complete distributivity and properties of the quantale of truth values. The results show that enriched category theory is a very useful tool in the study of many-valued versions of order-related mathematical entities.

Abstract:We study the equational theory of the Weihrauch lattice with multiplication, meaning the collection of equations between terms built from variables, the lattice operations $\sqcup$, $\sqcap$, the product $\times$, and the finite parallelization $(-)^*$ which are true however we substitute Weihrauch degrees for the variables. We provide a combinatorial description of these in terms of a reducibility between finite graphs, and moreover, show that deciding which equations are true in this sense is complete for the third level of the polynomial hierarchy.

Abstract:Let L be a distributive lattice and M n , q ( L ) (M n ( L ) , resp.) the semigroup (semiring, resp.) of n × q ( n × n , resp.) matrices over L . In this paper, we show that if there is a subdirect embedding from distributive lattice L to the direct product ∏ i = 1 m ‍ L i of distributive lattices L 1 , L 2 , ... , L m , then there will be a corresponding subdirect embedding from the matrix semigroup M n , q ( L ) (semiring M n ( L ) , resp.) to semigroup ∏ i = 1 m ‍ M n , q ( L i ) (semiring ∏ i = 1 m ‍ M n ( L i ) , resp.). Further, it is proved that a matrix over a distributive lattice can be decomposed into the sum of matrices over some of its special subchains. This generalizes and extends the decomposition theorems of matrices over finite distributive lattices, chain semirings, fuzzy semirings, and so forth. Finally, as some applications, we present a method to calculate the indices and periods of the matrices over a distributive lattice and characterize the structures of idempotent and nilpotent matrices over it. We translate the characterizations of idempotent and nilpotent matrices over a distributive lattice into the corresponding ones of the binary Boolean cases, which also generalize the corresponding structures of idempotent and nilpotent matrices over general Boolean algebras, chain semirings, fuzzy semirings, and so forth.

In the present paper, we considered the semimodularity and distributivity of the collection of (functorially finite) torsion classes. Abstract:In this note we generalize the construction, due to Ghilardi, of the free Heyting algebra generated by a finite distributive lattice, to the case of arbitrary distributive lattices. Categorically, this provides an explicit construction of a left adjoint to the inclusion of Heyting algebras in the category of distributive lattices This is shown to have several applications, both old and new, in the study of Heyting algebras: (1) it allows a more concrete description of colimits of Heyting algebras, as well as, via duality theory, limits of Esakia spaces, by knowing their description over distributive lattices and Priestley spaces; (2) It allows a direct proof of the amalgamation property for Heyting algebras, and of related facts; (3) it allows a proof of the fact that the category of Heyting algebras is co-distributive. We also study some generalizations and variations of this construction to different settings. First, we analyse some subvarieties of Heyting algebras -- such as Boolean algebras, $\mathsf{KC}$ and $\mathsf{LC}$ algebras, and show how the construction can be adapted to this setting. Second, we study the relationship between the category of image-finite posets with p-morphisms and the category of posets with monotone maps, showing that a variation of the above ideas provides us with an appropriate general idea.

Abstract:We study the equational theory of the Weihrauch lattice with composition and iterations, meaning the collection of equations between terms built from variables, the lattice operations $\sqcup$, $\sqcap$, the composition operator $\star$ and its iteration $(-)^\diamond$ , which are true however we substitute (slightly extended) Weihrauch degrees for the variables. We characterize them using Büchi games on finite graphs and give a complete axiomatization that derives them. The term signature and the axiomatization are reminiscent of Kleene algebras, except that we additionally have meets and the lattice operations do not fully distributes over composition. The game characterization also implies that it is decidable whether an equation is universally valid. We give some complexity bounds; in particular, the problem is Pspace-hard in general and we conjecture that it is solvable in Pspace.

Abstract:We introduce the notion of distributivity for implicative-orthomodular lattices, proving an analogue result of the Foulis-Holland theorem. Based on this result, we characterize the distributive implicative-orthomodular lattices. Moreover, we define the center of an implicative-orthomodular lattice as the set of all elements that commute with all other elements, and we prove that the center is an implicative-Boolean algebra. Additionally, we give new characterizations of implicative-orthomodular lattices.
