Abstract:This paper studies the differential lattice, defined to be a lattice L equipped with a map d:L→L\documentclass[12pt]{minimal}\usepackage{amsmath}\usepackage{wasysym}\usepackage{amsfonts}\usepackage{amssymb}\usepackage{amsbsy}\usepackage{mathrsfs}\usepackage{upgreek}\setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt}\begin{document}$$d:L\rightarrow L$$\end{document} that satisfies a lattice analog of the Leibniz rule for a derivation. Isomorphic differential lattices are studied and classifications of differential lattices are obtained for some basic lattices. Several families of derivations on a lattice are explicitly constructed, giving realizations of the lattice as lattices of derivations. Derivations on a finite distributive lattice are shown to have a natural structure of lattice. Moreover, derivations on a complete infinitely distributive lattice form a complete lattice. For a general lattice, it is conjectured that its poset of derivations is a lattice that uniquely determines the given lattice.

Abstract:Dual lattice is an important concept of Euclidean lattices. In 2024, Deng gave the definition to the concept of the dual lattice of a $p$-adic lattice from the duality theory of locally compact abelian groups. He also proved some important properties of the dual lattice of $p$-adic lattices, which can be viewed as $p$-adic analogues of the famous Minkowski's first, second theorems and transference theorems for Euclidean lattices. However, he only proved the lower bounds of the transference theorems and Minkowski's second theorem for $p$-adic lattices. The upper bounds are left as an open question. In this paper, we prove the upper bounds of the transference theorems and Minkowski's second theorem for $p$-adic lattices. We then prove that the dual basis of an orthogonal basis is also an orthogonal basis with respect to the maximum norm.

Abstract:This paper introduces the order-theoretic concept of lattices along with the concept of consistent quantification where lattice elements are mapped to real numbers in such a way that preserves some aspect of the order-theoretic structure. Symmetries, such as associativity, constrain consistent quantification and lead to a constraint equation known as the sum rule. Distributivity in distributive lattices also constrains consistent quantification and leads to a product rule. The sum and product rules, which are familiar from, but not unique to, probability theory, arise from the fact that logical statements form a distributive (Boolean) lattice, which exhibits the requisite symmetries.

Abstract:A distributive lattice structure ${\mathbf M}(G)$ has been established on the set of perfect matchings of a plane bipartite graph $G$. We call a lattice {\em matchable distributive lattice} (simply MDL) if it is isomorphic to such a distributive lattice. It is natural to ask which lattices are MDLs. We show that if a plane bipartite graph $G$ is elementary, then ${\mathbf M}(G)$ is irreducible. Based on this result, a decomposition theorem on MDLs is obtained: a finite distributive lattice $\mathbf{L}$ is an MDL if and only if each factor in any cartesian product decomposition of $\mathbf{L}$ is an MDL. Two types of MDLs are presented: $J(\mathbf{m}\times \mathbf{n})$ and $J(\mathbf{T})$, where $\mathbf{m}\times \mathbf{n}$ denotes the cartesian product between $m$-element chain and $n$-element chain, and $\mathbf{T}$ is a poset implied by any orientation of a tree.

Abstract:Let $L$ be a lattice. We call a congruence relation $\gQ$ of $L$ isoform, if any two congruence classes of $\gQ$ are isomorphic (as lattices). Let us call the lattice $L$ isoform, if all congruences of $L$ are isoform. G. Grätzer and E.\,T. Schmidt proved that every finite distributive lattice $D$ can be represented as the congruence lattice of a finite isoform lattice $L$. We now prove that every finite lattice $K$ has a congruence-preserving extension to a finite isoform lattice $L$.

Abstract:We study the equational theory of the Weihrauch lattice with multiplication, meaning the collection of equations between terms built from variables, the lattice operations $\sqcup$, $\sqcap$, the product $\times$, and the finite parallelization $(-)^*$ which are true however we substitute Weihrauch degrees for the variables. We provide a combinatorial description of these in terms of a reducibility between finite graphs, and moreover, show that deciding which equations are true in this sense is complete for the third level of the polynomial hierarchy.

Abstract:We prove a Fundamental Theorem of Finite Semidistributive Lattices (FTFSDL), modelled on Birkhoff's Fundamental Theorem of Finite Distributive Lattices. Our FTFSDL is of the form "A poset L is a finite semidistributive lattice if and only if there exists a set Sha with some additional structure, such that L is isomorphic to the admissible subsets of Sha ordered by inclusion; in this case, Sha and its additional structure are uniquely determined by L." The additional structure on Sha is a combinatorial abstraction of the notion of torsion pairs from representation theory and has geometric meaning in the case of posets of regions of hyperplane arrangements. We show how the FTFSDL clarifies many constructions in lattice theory, such as canonical join representations and passing to quotients, and how the semidistributive property interacts with other major classes of lattices. Many of our results also apply to infinite lattices.

Abstract:This note reformulates certain classical combinatorial duality theorems in the context of order lattices. For source-target networks, we generalize bottleneck path-cut and flow-cut duality results to edges with capacities in a distributive lattice. For posets, we generalize a bottleneck version of Dilworth's theorem, again weighted in a distributive lattice. These results are applicable to a wide array of non-numerical network flow problems, as shown. All results, proofs, and applications were created in collaboration with AI language models. An appendix documents their role and impact.

Abstract:Composition and lattice join (transitive closure of a union) of equivalence relations are operations taking pairs of decidable equivalence relations to relations that are semi-decidable, but not necessarily decidable. This article addresses the question, is every semi-decidable equivalence relation obtainable in those ways from a pair of decidable equivalence relations? It is shown that every semi-decidable equivalence relation, of which every equivalence class is infinite, is obtainable as both a composition and a lattice join of decidable equivalence relations having infinite equivalence classes. An example is constructed of a semi-decidable, but not decidable, equivalence relation having finite equivalence classes that can be obtained from decidable equivalence relations, both by composition and also by lattice join. Another example is constructed, in which such a relation cannot be obtained from decidable equivalence relations in either of the two ways.

For both unions and intersections, we show that the lattices we produce using left and right quotients are dual to each other. We also give necessary and sufficient conditions for these lattices to have maximal possible complexity.

Abstract:Recent work of Hopkins establishes that the lattice of order ideals of a minuscule poset satisfies the coincidental down-degree expectations property of Reiner, Tenner, and Yong. His approach appeals to the classification of minuscule posets. A uniform proof is presented herein. The blueprint follows that of Rush and Wang in their uniform proof that various cardinality statistics are homomesic on orbits of order ideals of minuscule posets under the Fon-Der-Flaass action. The underpinning remains the original insight of Rush and Shi into the structure of the isomorphism between the weight lattice of a minuscule representation of a complex simple Lie algebra and the lattice of order ideals of the corresponding minuscule poset.

Abstract: In this paper, we prove a discrete version of the generalized Riesz inequality on $\mathbb{Z}^d$. As a consequence, we will derive the extended Hardy-Littlewood and P\'olya-Szeg\"o inequalities. We will also establish cases of equality in the latter. Our approach is totally novel and self-contained. In particular, we invented a definition for the discrete rearrangement in higher dimensions. Moreover, we show that the definition "suggested" by Pruss does not work. We solve a long-standing open question raised by Alexander Pruss in [Pru98, p494], Duke Math Journal, and discussed with him in several communications in 2009-2010, [Pru10]. Our method also provides a line of attack to prove other discrete rearrangement inequalities and opens the door to the establishment of optimizers of many important discrete functional inequalities in $\mathbb{Z}^d,$ $d\geq2$. We will also discuss some applications of our findings. To the best of our knowledge, our results are the first ones in the literature dealing with discrete rearrangement on $\mathbb{Z}^d,$ $d\geq2$.
Towards Strong Reverse Minkowski-type Inequalities for Lattices

Abstract:We present a natural reverse Minkowski-type inequality for lattices, which gives upper bounds on the number of lattice points in a Euclidean ball in terms of sublattice determinants, and conjecture its optimal form. The conjecture exhibits a surprising wealth of connections to various areas in mathematics and computer science, including a conjecture motivated by integer programming by Kannan and Lovász (Annals of Math. 1988), a question from additive combinatorics asked by Green, a question on Brownian motions asked by Saloff-Coste (Colloq. Math. 2010), a theorem by Milman and Pisier from convex geometry (Ann. Probab. 1987), worst-case to average-case reductions in lattice-based cryptography, and more. We present these connections, provide evidence for the conjecture, and discuss possible approaches towards a proof. Our main technical contribution is in proving that our conjecture implies the $\ell_2$ case of the Kannan and Lovász conjecture. The proof relies on a novel convex relaxation for the covering radius, and a rounding procedure for based on "uncrossing" lattice subspaces.

Abstract:Let Γ be a graph product of finite groups, with finite underlying graph, and let Δ be the associated right-angled building. We prove that a uniform lattice Λ in the cubical automorphism group Aut ( Δ ) is weakly commensurable to Γ if and only if all convex subgroups of Λ are separable. As a corollary, any two finite special cube complexes with universal cover Δ have a common finite cover. An important special case of our theorem is where Γ is a right-angled Coxeter group and Δ is the associated Davis complex. We also obtain an analogous result for right-angled Artin groups. In addition, we deduce quasi-isometric rigidity for the group Γ when Δ has the structure of a Fuchsian building.

Abstract:We prove a representation theorem for totally ordered idempotent monoids via a nested sum construction. Using this representation theorem we obtain a characterization of the subdirectly irreducible members of the variety of semilinear idempotent distributive l -monoids and a proof that its lattice of subvarieties is countably infinite. For the variety of commutative idempotent distributive l -monoids we give an explicit description of its lattice of subvarieties and show that each of its subvarieties is finitely axiomatized. Finally we give a characterization of which spans of totally ordered idempotent monoids have an amalgam in the class of totally ordered monoids, showing in particular that the class of totally ordered commutative idempotent monoids has the strong amalgamation property and that various classes of distributive l -monoids do not have the amalgamation property. We also show that exactly seven non-trivial finitely generated subvarieties of the variety of semilinear idempotent distributive l -monoids have the amalgamation property; we are able to determine for all but three of its subvarieties whether they have the amalgamation property or not.
