Abstract:We show that a noetherian ring graded by an abelian group of finite rank satisfies the Auslander condition if and only if it satisfies the graded Auslander condition. In addition, we also study the injective dimension, the global dimension and the Cohen–Macaulay property from the same perspective as that for the Auslander condition. A key step of our approach is to establish homological relations between a graded ring [Formula: see text], its quotient ring modulo the ideal [Formula: see text] and its localization ring with respect to the Ore set [Formula: see text], where [Formula: see text] is a homogeneous regular normal non-invertible element of [Formula: see text].

Abstract:We consider in this paper the classical Liouvelle field theory on the Riemann sphere with n punctures. In terms of the uniformization theorem of the Riemann surface, we explicitly show the classical exchange algebra (CEA) for the chiral components of the Liouville field. We find that the matrix which dominates the CEA is related to the symmetry of the Lie group SL(n) in a nontrivial manner with n>3.

Abstract:We consider the classical Liouville field theory on the Riemann surface with h>1 genus. In terms of the uniformization theorem of the Riemann surface, we show explicitly the classical exchange algebra (CEA) for the chiral components of the Liouville field. Abstract:We show that exchangeable structures such as Polya urn model and Chinese restaurant process can be constructed from sets with a real number of elements. From this construction, the exchangeability of these structures becomes obvious and the calculations on them become extremely simple. Moreover, the usual calculations on these structures, which involve induction, integrals and Jacobian determinants, now can be done by simple combinatorial calculations.

Abstract:We investigate how to model exchangeability with choice functions. Exchangeability is a structural assessment on a sequence of uncertain variables. We show how such assessments constitute a special kind of indifference assessment, and how this idea leads to a counterpart of de Finetti's Representation Theorem, both in a finite and a countable context.

Abstract:We study (coalitional) exchange stability, which Alcalde [Economic Design, 1995] introduced as an alternative solution concept for matching markets involving property rights, such as assigning persons to two-bed rooms. Here, a matching of a given Stable Marriage or Stable Roommates instance is called coalitional exchange-stable if it does not admit any exchange-blocking coalition, that is, a subset S of agents in which everyone prefers the partner of some other agent in S. The matching is exchange-stable if it does not admit any exchange-blocking pair, that is, an exchange-blocking coalition of size two. We investigate the computational and parameterized complexity of the Coalitional Exchange-Stable Marriage (resp. Coalitional Exchange Roommates) problem, which is to decide whether a Stable Marriage (resp. Stable Roommates) instance admits a coalitional exchange-stable matching. Our findings resolve an open question and confirm the conjecture of Cechlárová and Manlove [Discrete Applied Mathematics, 2005] that Coalitional Exchange-Stable Marriage is NP-hard even for complete preferences without ties. We also study bounded-length preference lists and a local-search variant of deciding whether a given matching can reach an exchange-stable one after at most k swaps, where a swap is defined as exchanging the partners of the two agents in an exchange-blocking pair.

Abstract:Stability is a central concept in exchange-based mechanismdesign. It imposes a fundamental requirement that no subsetof agents could beneficially deviate from the outcome pre-scribed by the mechanism. However, deployment of stabilityin an exchange mechanism presents at least two challenges.First, it reduces social welfare and sometimes prevents themechanism from producing a solution. Second, it might incurcomputational cost to clear the mechanism.In this paper, we propose an alternative notion of stability,coined internal stability, under which we analyze the socialwelfare bounds and computational complexity. Our contribu-tions are as follows: for both pairwise matchings and limited-length exchanges, for both unweighted and weighted graph-s, (1) we prove desirable tight social welfare bounds; (2) weanalyze the computational complexity for clearing the match-ings and exchanges. Extensive experiments on the kidney ex-change domain demonstrate that the optimal welfare underinternal stability is very close to the unconstrained optimal.

Abstract:A right ideal I is reflexive if xRy ∈ I implies yRx ∈ I for x, y ∈ R . We shall call a ring R a reflexive ring if aRb = 0 implies bRa = 0 for a, b ∈ R . We study the properties of reflexive rings and related concepts. We first consider basic extensions of reflexive rings. For a reduced iedal I of a ring R , if R/I is reflexive, we show that R is reflexive. We next discuss the reflexivity of some kinds of polynomial rings. For a quasi-Armendariz ring R , it is proved that R is reflexive if and only if R [ x ] is reflexive if and only if R [ x ; x −1 ] is reflexive. For a right Ore ring R with Q its classical right quotient ring, we show that if R is a reflexive ring then Q is also reflexive. Moreover, we characterize weakly reflexive rings which is a weak form of reflexive rings and investigate its properties. Examples are given to show that weakly reflexive rings need not be semicommutative. It is shown that if R is a semicommutative ring, then R [ x ] is weakly reflexive.

Abstract:The following representation theorem is proven: A partially ordered commutative ring $R$ is a subring of a ring of almost everywhere defined continuous real-valued functions on a compact Hausdorff space $X$ if and only if $R$ is archimedean and localizable. Here we assume that the positive cone of $R$ is closed under multiplication and stable under multiplication with squares, but actually one of these assumptions implies the other. An almost everywhere defined function on $X$ is one that is defined on a dense open subset of $X$. A partially ordered commutative ring $R$ is archimedean if the underlying additive partially ordered abelian group is archimedean, and $R$ is localizable essentially if its order is compatible with the construction of a localization with sufficiently large, positive denominators. As applications we discuss the $\sigma$-bounded case, lattice-ordered commutative rings ($f$-rings), partially ordered fields, and commutative operator algebras.

The rack congruence condition and half congruences in racks

Abstract:Racks and quandles are algebraic structures with a single binary operation that is right self-distributive and right invertible, and additionally idempotent in the case of quandles. The invertibility condition is equivalent to the existence of a second binary operation that acts as a right inverse to the first, so that racks and quandles may also be viewed as algebraic structures with a pair of (dependent) binary operations. When forming a quotient rack or quandle it is necessary to take this two-operation view, and define a congruence as an equivalence relation on the rack or quandle that respects both operations. However, in defining a congruence some authors have omitted the condition on the inverse operation, and defined a congruence as an equivalence relation respecting the primary operation only. We show that while respecting the primary operation is sufficient in the case of finite racks and quandles, it is not in general sufficient in the infinite case. We do this by constructing explicit examples of "half congruences": equivalence relations that respect exactly one of the two operations. Our work also allows us to completely characterise congruences in connected Alexander quandles.

Abstract:We use formal methods to specify, design, and monitor continuous double auctions, which are widely used to match buyers and sellers at exchanges of foreign currencies, stocks, and commodities. We identify three natural properties of such auctions and formally prove that these properties completely determine the input-output relationship. We then formally verify that a natural algorithm satisfies these properties. All definitions, theorems, and proofs are formalized in an interactive theorem prover. We extract a verified program of our algorithm to build an automated checker that is guaranteed to detect errors in the trade logs of exchanges if they generate transactions that violate any of the natural properties.

Abstract:Let $R$ be a commutative ring with unity and let $X$ be an indeterminate over $R$. The \textit{Anderson ring} of $R$ is defined as the quotient ring of the polynomial ring $R[X]$ by the set of polynomials that evaluate to $1$ at $0$. Specifically, the Anderson ring of $R$ is $R[X]_A$, where $A=\{f\in R[X]\mid f(0)=1\}$. In this paper, we aim to investigate the transfer of various ring-theoretic properties between the ring $R$ and its Anderson ring $R[X]_A$. Interesting results are established, accompanied by applications and illustrative examples.
