Abstract:In 1997, Wang introduced the formal system L∗ for a type of fuzzy propositional calculus given by a particular t-norm different from the three famous ones (Lukasiewicz, Gödel, product). Recently, Pei proved the completeness theorem for L∗ with respect to W̄-semantic by developing a theory of algebraic systems. In this paper, we aim to prove it by essentially metamathematical method. Furthermore, we discussed originally the completeness for the schematic extension Ln∗ of L∗ with respect to Wn-semantic.

Abstract:In this paper, the following quantum-logic valued measure convergence theorem is proved: Let (L1, 0, 1) be a Boolean algebra, (L2, ⊥, ⊕, 0, 1) be a quantum logic and {μ n : n ∈ N} be a sequence of s-bounded (L2, ⊥, ⊕, 0, 1)-valued measures which are defined on (L1, 0, 1). If for each a ∈ (L1, 0, 1), {μ n (a)}n ∈ N is an order topology $\tau_{0}^{L_2}$ Cauchy sequence, when {v(a)} convergent to 0, {μ n (a)} is order topology $\tau_{0}^{L_2}$ convergent to 0 for each n ∈ N, where v is a nonnegative finite additive measure which is defined on (L1, 0, 1), then when {v(a)} convergent to 0, {μ n (a)} are order topology $\tau_{0}^{L_2}$ convergent to 0 uniformly with respect to n ∈ N.

Abstract:Among the class of residuated fuzzy logics, a few of them have been shown to have standard completeness both for propositional and predicate calculus, like Gödel, NM and monoidal t-norm-based logic systems. In this paper, a new residuated logic NMG, which aims at capturing the tautologies of a class of ordinal sum t-norms and their residua, is introduced and its standard completeness both for propositional calculus and for predicate calculus are proved.

Abstract:Fuchino-Maschio-Sakai~\cite{FuchinoEtAl_DRP_LST} proved that the Löwenheim-Skolem-Tarski (LST) property of Stationary Logic is equivalent to the Diagonal Reflection Principle on internally club sets ($\text{DRP}_{\text{IC}}$) introduced in \cite{DRP}. We prove that the restriction of the LST property to (downward) reflection of $\Pi^1_1$ formulas, which we call the $\Pi^1_1 \! \! \downarrow$-LST property, is equivalent to the \emph{internal} version of DRP from \cite{Cox_RP_IS}. Combined with results from \cite{Cox_RP_IS}, this shows that the $\Pi^1_1 \! \! \downarrow$-LST Property for Stationary Logic is strictly weaker than the full LST Property for Stationary Logic, though if CH holds they are equivalent.

Polynomial Lawvere Logic

Abstract:We study Polynomial Lawvere logic PL, a logic defined over the Lawvere quantale of extended positive reals with sum as tensor, to which we add multiplication, thereby obtaining a semiring structure. PL is designed for complex quantitative reasoning, allowing judgements that express inequalities between polynomials on the extended positive reals. We introduce a deduction system and demonstrate its expressiveness by deriving a classical result from probability theory relating the Kantorovich and the total variation distances. Although the deductive system is not complete in general, we achieve completeness for finitely axiomatizable theories. The proof of completeness relies on the Krivine-Stengle Positivstellensatz (a variant of Hilbert's Nullstellensatz). Additionally, we provide new complexity results, both for PL and its affine fragment AL, regarding two decision problems: satisfiability of a set of judgements and semantical consequence from a set of judgements. The former is NP-complete in AL and in PSPACE for PL; the latter is co-NP complete in PL and in PSPACE for PL.

Abstract:Lukasiewicz logic is a "fuzzy" logic in which truth value can be real numbers in the unit interval. There are connectives for min, max, addition and complement (1-x). The "value" of a closed formula in a fuzzy (relational model) is defined in the natural way. A formula is called valid iff it has value 1 in every fuzzy model. We show that the set of valid formulas in Lukasiewicz predicate logic is a complete Pi^0_2 set. We also show that if we restrict our attention to the classical language (min, max, complement) then the classically valid formulas are exactly those formulas whose fuzzy value is 1/2.

Partial Residuated Implications Derived from Partial Triangular Norms and Partial Residuated Lattices

Abstract:In this paper, we reveal some relations between fuzzy logic and quantum logic, and mainly study the partial residuated implications (PRIs) derived from partial triangular norms (partial t-norms) and partial residuated lattices (PRLs), and expand some results in the article "material implication in lattice effect algebra". Firstly, according to the concept of partial triangular norms given by Borzooei, we introduce the connection between lattice effect algebra and partial t-norms, and prove that partial operations in any commutative quasiresiduated lattice are partial t-norms. Secondly, we give the general form of partial residuated implications and the concept of partial fuzzy implications (PFIs), and the condition that partial residuated implication is a fuzzy implication is given. We also prove that each partial residuated implication is a partial fuzzy implication. Thirdly, we propose the partial residuated lattice and study their basic properties, to discuss the corresponding relationship between PRLs and lattice effect algebras (LEAs), to further reveal the relationship between LEAs and residuated partial algebras. In addition, like the definition of partial t-norms, we also propose the concepts of partial triangular conorms (partial t-conorms) and corresponding partial co-residuated lattices (PcRLs). Finally, based on partial residuated lattices, we give the definition of well partial residuated lattices (wPRLs), study the filter of well partial residuated lattices, and then construct quotient structure of partial residuated lattices.

Abstract:There are standard logics DTC, TC, and LFP capturing the complexity classes L, NL, and P on ordered structures, respectively. In [4] we have shown that LFP_{inv}, the ``order-invariant least fixed-point logic LFP,'' captures P (on all finite structures) if and only if there is a listing of the P subsets of the set TAUT of propositional tautologies. We are able to extend the result to listings of the L-subsets (NL-subsets) of TAUT and the logic DTC_{inv} (TC_{inv}). As a byproduct we get that LFP_{inv} captures P if DTC_{inv} captures L. Furthermore, we show that the existence of a listing of the L-subsets of TAUT is equivalent to the existence of an almost space optimal algorithm for TAUT. To obtain this result we have to derive a space version of a theorem of Levin on optimal inverters.

Abstract:Lawvere showed that generalised metric spaces are categories enriched over $[0, \infty]$, the quantale of the positive extended reals. The statement of enrichment is a quantitative analogue of being a preorder. Towards seeking a logic for quantitative metric reasoning, we investigate three $[0,\infty]$-valued propositional logics over the Lawvere quantale. The basic logical connectives shared by all three logics are those that can be interpreted in any quantale, viz finite conjunctions and disjunctions, tensor (addition for the Lawvere quantale) and linear implication (here a truncated subtraction); to these we add, in turn, the constant $1$ to express integer values, and scalar multiplication by a non-negative real to express general affine combinations. Quantitative equational logic can be interpreted in the third logic if we allow inference systems instead of axiomatic systems. For each of these logics we develop a natural deduction system which we prove to be decidably complete w.r.t. the quantale-valued semantics. The heart of the completeness proof makes use of the Motzkin transposition theorem. Consistency is also decidable; the proof makes use of Fourier-Motzkin elimination of linear inequalities. Strong completeness does not hold in general, even (as is known) for theories over finitely-many propositional variables; indeed even an approximate form of strong completeness in the sense of Pavelka or Ben Yaacov -- provability up to arbitrary precision -- does not hold. However, we can show it for theories axiomatized by a (not necessarily finite) set of judgements in normal form over a finite set of propositional variables when we restrict to models that do not map variables to $\infty$; the proof uses Hurwicz's general form of the Farkas' Lemma.

Upward Löwenheim-Skolem-Tarski Numbers for Abstract Logics

Abstract:Galeotti, Khomskii and Väänäanen recently introduced the notion of the upward Löwenheim-Skolem-Tarski number for a logic, strengthening the classical notion of a Hanf number. A cardinal $\kappa$ is the \emph{upward Löwenheim-Skolem-Tarski number} (ULST) of a logic $\mathcal L$ if it is the least cardinal with the property that whenever $M$ is a model of size at least $\kappa$ satisfying a sentence $\varphi$ in $\mathcal L$, then there are arbitrarily large models satisfying $\varphi$ and having $M$ as a substructure. The substructure requirement is what differentiates the ULST number from the Hanf number and gives the notion large cardinal strength. While it is a theorem of ZFC that every logic has a Hanf number, Galeotti, Khomskii and Väänänen showed that the existence of the ULST number for second-order logic implies the existence of a partially extendible cardinal. We answer positively their conjecture that the ULST number for second-order logic is the least extendible cardinal.

Abstract:The rearrangement inequality states that the sum of products of permutations of 2 sequences of real numbers are maximized when the terms are similarly ordered and minimized when the terms are ordered in opposite order. We show that similar inequalities exist for multi-valued logic with the multiplication and addition operation replaced with various T-norms and T-conorms respectively. For instance, we show that the rearrangement inequality holds when the T-norms and T-conorms are derived from Archimedean copulas.

Abstract:In this paper we give a new proof for the completeness of infinite valued propositional Łukasiewicz logic introduced by Łukasiewicz and Tarski in 1930. Our approach employs a Hilbert-style proof that relies on the concept of maximal consistent extensions, and unlike classical logic, in this context, the maximal extensions are not required to include all formulas or their negations. To illustrate this point, we provide examples of such formulas.

Abstract:There are two kinds of bisimulation, namely crisp and fuzzy, between fuzzy structures such as fuzzy automata, fuzzy labeled transition systems, fuzzy Kripke models and fuzzy interpretations in description logics. Fuzzy bisimulations between fuzzy automata over a complete residuated lattice have been introduced by Ćirić et al. in 2012. Logical characterizations of fuzzy bisimulations between fuzzy Kripke models (respectively, fuzzy interpretations in description logics) over the residuated lattice [ 0 , 1 ] with the Gödel t-norm have been provided by Fan in 2015 (respectively, Nguyen et al. in 2020). There was the lack of logical characterizations of fuzzy bisimulations between fuzzy graph-based structures over a general residuated lattice, as well as over the residuated lattice [ 0 , 1 ] with the Łukasiewicz or product t-norm. In this article, we provide and prove logical characterizations of fuzzy bisimulations in fuzzy modal logics over residuated lattices. The considered logics are the fuzzy propositional dynamic logic and its fragments. Our logical characterizations concern invariance of formulas under fuzzy bisimulations and the Hennessy-Milner property of fuzzy bisimulations. They can be reformulated for other fuzzy structures such as fuzzy labeled transition systems and fuzzy interpretations in description logics.

Abstract:Fuzzy quantifiers have important applications in a great variety of fields such as database querying, data mining and knowledge discovering, inductive learning and so on. Recently, M.S.Ying introduces a novel fuzzy framework for linguistic quantifiers which are modeled by Sugeno integrals. Essentially, the conjunction and disjunction in Ying's framework are interpreted as the "min" and "max" operations, which restricts the application of this theory in some sense. In this paper, we extended Ying's framework by interpreting the conjunction and disjunction as t-norm and t-conorm respectively. And some elegant logical results for our framework have been obtained.

Abstract:We generalize Kracht's theory of internal describability from classical modal logic to the family of all logics canonically associated with varieties of normal lattice expansions (LE algebras). We work in the purely algebraic setting of perfect LEs; the formulas playing the role of Kracht's formulas in this generalized setting pertain to a first order language whose atoms are special inequalities between terms of perfect algebras. Via duality, formulas in this language can be equivalently translated into first order conditions in the frame correspondence languages of several types of relational semantics for LE-logics.
