Abstract:Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) fiber was developed more than a decade ago. It has been regarded as the most promising sustainable and biodegradable fiber to replace conventional polyethylene terephthalate (PET) polyester fiber in textile products. This paper reviews recent developments in PLA polymerization, PLA filament and fiber spinning, staple yarn spinning, fabric production, dyeing and finishing and aftercare procedures. The properties of PLA fiber are broadly similar to those of PET fiber; however, the properties of PLA fiber that differ, including thermal degradation and low hydrolytic resistance to strong alkaline, significantly affect the method selection and parameter setting of production and processing of PLA fibers and fabrics. PLA filaments are mainly produced by two-step melt spinning to get fibers with stable quality, but degradation at high temperature is still a problem. PLA staple yarns are normally spun using ring spinning. Currently existing knitting or weaving techniques can be used to produce PLA fabrics. PLA fabrics can be dyed with disperse dyes at 110°C, but their color fastness and shades are different from PET fabrics when using the same dyes. The scouring and dyeing of PLA/cotton blended fabrics and the reductive clearing after dyeing remain to be improved. As a new fiber, the entry of PLA fiber into the textile market faces difficult challenges as well as great opportunities in the future.

Abstract:The spinning process principle of composite yarn was introduced.According to the rebuilding cotton spinning machine and based on the practice in the spinning process,spinning technological process of composite yarn is defined.Some experiments on the primary processing parameters of the composite spinning yarn were carried out,and the influences of spinning factors on composite yarn quality were analyzed by the spinning processes.The problems of end-breakage and unevenness etc. of composite yarn in the spinning process were resolved by reasonable spinning process configuration.The effective technical measures and process parameters were discussed.The results could be as a reference data for improving the quality of composite yarn and developing the new products further.

Abstract:In this paper, polylactic acid fabric (PLA) was dyed with five different disperse dyes and the effect of dyeing parameters including time and temperature on the dyeing adsorption%, K/S value and the strength properties were studied. The recommended disperse dyeing conditions and dyeing profiles were also summarized.

Abstract:According to the characteristics of far-infrared polyester,bamboo fiber and acrylic,together with the practical production,this paper discusses various measures that increasing the blended yarns' quality.The results show that the processing principles of the abbreviated system,multiple bale breaking,small beating,slow speed,and multiple blending are adopted in the picking process;the light quantum,middle gauge,middle speed,large transfer coefficient,and small tension draft are used in the carding process;the light quantum,slow speed,heavy pressure,straight draft,large gauge are used in the drawing process;the heavy pressure,slow speed,large gauge,middle twist,and small tension are presented in the roving process;and the middle speed,large twist factor,heavy pressure,large gauge,middle hardness rubber-covered roll,and small nip gauge are adopted in the spinning process,which can all increase the quality of blended yarns.

Abstract:The dyeing properties of the polylactic acid (PLA) fiber with four different disperse dyes was studied. In the disperse dyeing process, differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) analysis was applied to test and analyze the changes of the glass-transition and melting temperature of the dyed and pure PLA fiber. The results indicated that not only the structure of the dispersed dyes and the dyeing conditions affected the dyeing performance of PLA fiber, but also the degree of the crystallinity of PLA fiber contributed to the final dyeing results. Moreover, the transformation of such crystallinity during the disperse dyeing process should be taken into account when the dyeing temperature was studied.
