Abstract:Polysiloxane-based thermoplastic dynamic vulcanizate is one new kind of elastomers.It is prepared via blending of polysioxane and thermoplastic polymer followed by dynamic vulcanization.This review first described the common formation mechanism and preparation process of polysiloxane-based thermoplastic dynamic vulcanizates by reactive extrusion,and then provided an comprehensive overview and evaluation on the preparation progress of polysiloxane-based thermoplastic dynamic vulcanizates from various respects including improving the compatibilization between polydisiloxane and thermoplastic polymer,dynamic vulcanization,and processing conditions and process of reactive extrusion.Finally,this review summarized some existed and unsolved problems about preparing polysiloxanebased thermoplastic dynamic vulcanizates,and its development trend in the future.

Abstract:In this review, the reaction mechanism for synthesis of the novolac-type phenolic resin has been introduced, and kinetic study and process development for the reaction was summarized. It has been noted that credible kinetic parameters have not yet been obtained, and process simulations to describe product structures are still not perfect due to lack of analytical means for micro-structures of the resin. So the performance of the resin still has the big improvement space.

Abstract:The product from free radical and coordination polymerization generally are homopolymer or random copolymer with broad molecular weight distribution.In the past two decades,the breakthroughs in controlled/living radical and coordination polymerization and shuttling polymerization make it possible to use almost all vinyl monomers,particularly those cheap monomers,to produce more complex chain structures like di-,tri-block copolymer and gradient copolymers.With rational design,these copolymers might be high performance and high added value synthetic materials.The mechanisms and the up-to-date progress of these polymerization methods were introduced,and their possible applications were discussed.

Abstract:The construction of complex polymer architectures with well-defined topology, composition and functionality has been extensively explored as the molecular basis for the development of modern polymer materials. The unique reaction kinetics of free-radical polymerization leads to the concurrent formation of crosslinks between polymer chains and rings within an individual chain and, thus, free-radical (co)polymerization of multivinyl monomers provides a facile method to manipulate chain topology and functionality. Regulating the relative contribution of these intermolecular and intramolecular chain-propagation reactions is the key to the construction of architecturally complex polymers. This can be achieved through the design of new monomers or by spatially or kinetically controlling crosslinking reactions. These mechanisms enable the synthesis of various polymer architectures, including linear, cyclized, branched and star polymer chains, as well as crosslinked networks. In this Review, we highlight some of the contemporary experimental strategies to prepare complex polymer architectures using radical polymerization of multivinyl monomers. We also examine the recent development of characterization techniques for sub-chain connections in such complex macromolecules. Finally, we discuss how these crosslinking reactions have been engineered to generate advanced polymer materials for use in a variety of biomedical applications.

Abstract:Acrylic polymer latex plays an important role in many industrial processes, such as the production of synthetic rubber, surface coatings, adhesives, additives in paper and textiles and many other products. Presently, the raw materials for preparing the acrylic polymer latex mainly originate from fossil resources. The progressive decline of fossil resources, together with the ongoing increases in oil prices, has initiated an increase in the search for alternatives, based on renewable resources for the production of acrylic polymer latex. In this paper, the application of renewable resources in preparing acrylic polymer latex is reviewed and summarized. The aim of the review is that provides the reference for application of the renewable resources in preparing the acrylic polymer latex.

Abstract:Polymeric peroxide is an equimolar alternating copolymer formed by the reaction of a monomer with molecular oxygen (O 2 ). Various polyperoxides have been successfully synthesized using different techniques, such as free radical polymerization, condensation polymerization, and insertion polymerization in the solid state. A wide variety of physical and chemical characteristics are displayed by these polyperoxides, making them attractive candidates for various applications. Due to their high exothermal degrading behavior and autocombustibility, polyperoxides are a viable alternative to fuels derived from petroleum. Additionally, polyperoxides have a wide range of applications, such as free radical initiators, curatives, biocompatible drug carriers, coating materials, dismantlable adhesives, and molding precursors. In this focused review, we report on recent efforts in developing vinyl homo- and copolyperoxides, their physicochemical behaviors, and various applications. Finally, the existing opportunities, possible challenges, and some viewpoints on future directions in vinyl polyperoxide research are highlighted.

Abstract:The development of epoxy resins is mainly dependent on non-renewable petroleum resources, commonly diglycidyl ether bisphenol A (DGEBA)-type epoxy monomers. Most raw materials of these thermoset resins are toxic to the health of human beings. To alleviate concerns about the environment and health, the design and synthesis of bio-based epoxy resins using biomass as raw materials have been widely studied in recent decades to replace petroleum-based epoxy resins. With the improvement in the requirements for the performance of bio-based epoxy resins, the design of bio-based epoxy resins with unique functions has attracted a lot of attention, and bio-based epoxy resins with flame-retardant, recyclable/degradable/reprocessable, antibacterial, and other functional bio-based epoxy resins have been developed to expand the applications of epoxy resins and improve their competitiveness. This review summarizes the research progress of functional bio-based epoxy resins in recent years. First, bio-based epoxy resins were classified according to their unique function, and synthesis strategies of functional bio-based epoxy resins were discussed, then the relationship between structure and performance was revealed to guide the synthesis of functional bio-based epoxy resins and stimulate the development of more types of functional bio-based epoxy resins. Finally, the challenges and opportunities in the development of functional bio-based epoxy resins are presented.

Abstract:A novel UV curable vinyl ether functionalized polymer resin was synthesized via two steps:(1) free radical copolymerization of styrene and 2-isocyanatoethyl methacrylate (IEMA) to form the backbone of the resin molecules with pendent reactive isocyanate groups; (2) reaction with ethylene glycol vinyl ether (EGME) to graft vinyl ether groups to the backbone. The FTIR,1HNMR and 13CNMR spectra of the synthesized resin were used to determine its molecular structure. The transmission of light of this resin was measured by UV-visible spectrometer. The film formation property of the resin by spin-coating method was studied with the solvent of toluene and THF. This resin was applied as a negative photoresist and 4 μm pitch grating structures were achieved on the film of the photoresist by UV photolithography. The mechanism of this negative resist is that the vinyl ether groups crosslinked under the exposure of UV-light and made the exposed portion unsoluble to the developer. The unexposed portion was dissolved ty the developer. The grating patterns were formed on the substrate.

Abstract:Photocatalytic upcycling and depolymerization of vinyl polymers have emerged as promising strategies to combat plastic pollution and promote a circular economy. This mini review critically summarizes current developments in the upcycling and degradation of vinyl polymers including polystyrene and poly(meth)acrylates. Of these material classes, polymethacrylates also possess the unique possibility to undergo a photocatalytic depolymerization back to monomer under thermodynamically favourable conditions, thus presenting significant advantages over traditional thermal strategies. Our perspective on current formidable challenges and potential future directions are also discussed.
