Abstract:Under the action of a low-valent titanium reagent, substituted imidazolidines were synthesized in moderate yields via cross-coupling between imines and triethyl orthoformate, and the yields of product 3 with different substituted groups as well as the corresponding isomer distributions were also discussed. Related NMR spectra were used to define the configuration of the products.

Abstract:An interesting approach to functionalized imidazolidines is described. These compounds are obtained in a copper(I)-catalyzed domino three-component coupling and cyclization reaction involving two formaldehyde-derived imine units and a terminal alkyne. Alternatively, imidazolidines can be obtained from propargylamines and formaldehyde-derived imines. This strategy provides a straightforward and atom-economic pathway to construct imidazolidines with high yields and benefits from readily available starting materials, convenient one-pot operations.

Abstract:Certain imines lead to the formation of imidazolidine derivative in THF with Sni/TiCl4 system. It was found that products of reductive coupling could be obtained in below 20% yields without 1,2-dibromoethane, while products of reductive coupling in moderate yields when I 2-dibromoethane was added. The structures of all products were confirmed by IR, H-1 NMR and MS spectra. According to the results of the experiment, a possible mechanism was proposed.

Abstract:A short and facile synthesis of a series of 1,2-dihydroquiazolin-4(3H)-ones was accomplished in good yields via the novel reductive cyclisation of o-nitrobenzamides with aldehydes or ketones promoted by the TiCl4/Sm system. Structures were established on the basis of elemental analysis, IR, H-1 NMR and confirmed by a single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The advantages of our method are easily accessible starting materials, convenient manipulation and moderate to high yields.

Abstract:A new one-pot synthesis of C2-hydroxypropyl-substituted imidazolinium salts via the ring opening of tetrahydrofuran (THF) with N,N'-disubstituted diamines has been developed. Preliminary studies of the reaction mechanism suggest the CO2-promoted oxidative ring opening of THF followed by Hg(ii)-mediated oxidation of an imidazolidine intermediate. These novel C2-substituted imidazolinium salts have shown to be active catalysts for the aza-Diels-Alder reactions.

Abstract:This paper reports the reactions of o-nitrobenzamides with ketones induced by titanium reagent (TICl4-SM system). The results show that the low-valent titanium promoted a novel reductive cyclization of o-nitrobenzamides and ketones to give 1, 2-dihydroquinazohn-4 3H)-ones. The products were characterized by elementary analysis, IR, H-1 NMR and X-ray single crystal diffraction. The crystal of compound 3b belongs to monoclinic system with space group P2(1)/n, a=1.191 7(2) nm, b=0.691 10) nm, c= 1.782 1(4) nm, beta=98.81degrees, V=1.455 04(5) nm(3), Z=4, D-c=1.220 g/cm(3), mu=0.077 mm(-1), F(000) =568, and final R=0.043 3 and wR=0.107 6 for reflections [I>2sigma(I)]. In summary, a series of 1,2-dihydroquinazolin-4 3H) -ones was synthesized via reductive cyclization of o-nitrobenzamides with ketones induced by the TiCl4-Sm system. Our method possesses the advantages of easily accessible starting materials, convenient manipulation and moderate to high yield.

Abstract:2-Trifluoromethyl and 2-difluoromethyl substituted benzimidazole, benzoxazole and benzothiazole derivatives were efficiently prepared through a one-pot reaction of trifluoroacetic acid and difluoroacetic acid, respectively, with commercially available o-phenylenediamines, 2-aminophenols, and 2-aminobenzenethiols in good to excellent yields. Subsequential bromination of 2-difluoromethyl groups by photolysis with NBS led to the formation of bromodifluoromethyl benzo-1,3-diazoles which may be utilized to prepare the new generation of gem-difluoromethylene linked identical or non-identical twin molecules for drug synthesis.

Abstract:A solvent-free microwave-assisted synthesis of trisubstituted imidazoles is reported. The imidazoles are produced by the condensation of alpha-hydroxyketone with an aldehyde over silica gel or alumina impregnated with ammonium acetate as the solid support in short time with good yields. An air oxidation mechanism is proposed, and this clean air oxidation considerably reduces the cost of imidazole synthesis.

Abstract:An asymmetric approach to access 2-substituted isoindolin-1-ones 9-11 was developed through TiCl4-mediated addition-chlorination of N,O-acetals 7 a-7 c with terminal alkynes 8. A range of substrates were amenable to this transformation, and the desired substituted isoindolin-1-ones were obtained in moderate to good yields with moderate diastereoselectivities.
