Abstract:A neural network-based model approach is presented in which the effects of the die temperature and flow rate on the diameter and thickness swells of the parison in the continuous extrusion blow molding of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) are investigated. Comparison of the neural network model predictions with experimental data yields very good agreement and demonstrates that the neural network model can predict the parison swells at different processing parameters with a high degree of precision (within 0.001).

Abstract:Error compensation is an effective approach to enhance machining precision, and error modeling is the key factor for the compensation. Firstly, the present machining error prediction technologies and their disadvantages were analyzed and compared. Then support vector machines(SVM)-based method of machining error modeling and prediction was put forward. Also some problems in real application of the method were analyzed and summarized. Finally, a real application example and comparison with other modeling methods was given, which indicates that the proposed method has an excellent prediction performance and is a new feasible approach for machining error prediction.

Abstract:Melt index is considered an important quality variable determining product specifications. Reliable prediction of melt index (MI) is crucial in quality control of practical propylene polymerization processes. In this paper a least squares support vector machines (LS-SVM) soft-sensor model of propylene polymerization process is developed to infer the MI of polypropylene from other process variables. Considering the use of a SSE cost function without regularization might lead to less robust estimates; the weighted least squares support vector machines (weighted LS-SVM) approach of propylene polymerization process is further proposed to obtain a robust estimation of melt index. The performance of standard SVM model is taken as a basis of comparison. A detailed comparison research among the standard SVM, LS-SVM, and weighted LS-SVM models is carried out. Abstract:In this work, two new strategies were proposed for predicting the parison thickness and diameter distributions in extrusion blow molding. The first one was a finite-element-based numerical simulation for the parison extruded from a varying die gap. The comparison of simulated and experimental parison thickness distributions indicates that the new method has certain accuracy in predicting the parison thickness from a varying die gap. The second one was an artificial neural network (ANN) approach, the characteristics of which are in sufficient patterns that can be obtained without doing too many experiments. The diameter and thickness swells of the parisons extruded under different flow rates were obtained by a well-designed experiment. The obtained data were then used to train and test the ANN model. The dimension of one location on the parison can provide one pattern to train the ANN model. Trained and tested ANN model can be used to predict the dimensions at any location on the parison within a given range. The proposed two strategies can help search the processing conditions to obtain optimal parison thickness distributions.

Predicting the parison dimension distribution is useful to optimize the thickness distribution and property of the final part. The dependency between parison dimensions and materials characteristics, processing conditions, and die geometry is a highly nonlinear and fully coupled one. In this work, diameter and thickness swells of the high-density polyethylene parison extruded under different flow rates were obtained by a well-designed experiment. The obtained data were then used to train and test the artificial neural network (ANN) model. Trained and tested ANN model can be used to predict the dimensions at any location on the parison within a given range.

Abstract:As the third largest plastics processing technique, blow molding is one of the fastest growing industries worldwide. In this paper, a series of simulations on the parison formation in plastics extrusion blow molding were implemented using finite element method. Then a neural network model was developed based on the numerical results. The effects of the extrusion die inclination angle, die gap, and parison length on the parison swells can be predicted using the network model. The hybrid method combining the finite element and neural network can shorten the time for the predictions drastically.

Abstract:A series of experiments were carried out on the parison formation stage in extrusion blow molding of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) under different die temperature, extrusion flow rate, and parison length. The drop time of parison when it reached a given length and its swells, including the diameter, thickness, and area swells, were determined by analyzing its video images. Two back-propagation (BP) artificial neural network models, one for predicting the length evolution of parison with its drop time, the other predicting the swells along the parison, were constructed based on the experimental data. Some modifications to the original BP algorithm were carried out to speed it up. The comparison of the predicted parison swells using the trained BP network models with the experimentally determined ones showed quite a good agreement between the two. The sum of squared error for the predictions is within 0.001. The prediction of the parison diameter and thickness distributions can be made online at any parison length or any parison drop time within a given range using the trained models. Abstract:Based on the prediction of the parison dimension in plastics extrusion blow molding by BR neural network,RBF neural network was applied to predict the parison dimension in plastics extrusion blow molding,and the results of RBF was compared with that by BP.The results showed both RBF and BP could predict the parison dimensions well,but the training time of RBF was much shoter,being only 0.7% of that of BP.

Abstract:Back-propagation (BP) neural network is used to develop process models for the parison extrusion in extrusion blow molding based on experimental data. In applying the BP network, some modifications, such as using a self-adaptive learning rate coefficient, determining the number of hidden neurons through experimentation, and so on, to the original BP algorithm are carried out to speed up learning. Quite a good agreement has been reached between the predicted parison length and swells using the trained BP models and the experimentally determined ones. The prediction of the parison diameter and thickness distributions can be made online at any parison length or any parison drop time within a given range using the trained models. It has been demonstrated that nonlinear swells, under the effect of sag, can be predicted within a reasonably adequate accuracy.

Abstract:This article predicted the PPV of blasting vibration and contrasted the results with the measured data based on support vector machine regression(SVMR) prediction theory.With the comparative analysis between the RBF neural network and traditional prediction method,the fact that the method based on support vector machine regression theory could make a better prediction of the PPV of blasting vibration and reduce prediction inaccuracy was revealed,showing the significance of the study of blasting vibration characteristics and the control of disasters caused by blasting.

Abstract:An artificial neural network model is established for predicting the fiber diameter of melt blown nonwoven fabrics from the processing parameters. An attempt is made to study the effect of the number of hidden layers and hidden layer neurons to minimize the prediction error. The artificial neural network with three hidden layers (5, 2, and 3 neurons in the first, second, and third hidden layer, respectively) yields the minimum prediction error and thus is determined as the preferred network. The square of the correlation coefficient of measured and predicted fiber diameters shows the good performance of the model. Using the established ANN model, computer simulations of the effects of the processing parameters on the fiber diameter are carried out. The results show great promise for this research in the field of computer assisted design of melt blowing technology. (c) 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Abstract:The mechanism of the three stages in precessing of plastics extruding blow molding was studied using different methods. Neural network method was used to investigate the parison swell affected by the die temperature and extrusion flow rate. The comparison of the experimentally determined parison swell of high density polyethylene with the predicted ones using the neural network model showed very agreement between the two. The parison swell can be predicted at different processing conditions from the neural network model. A mathematical model based on the thin membrane approximation and neo-Hookean constitutive relations was used to describe the parison free inflation.

Abstract:The support vector machine(SVM) is a machine -learning algorithm based on the statistical learning theory (SLT),which has desirable classification ability even if with fewer samples. In this paper, the application of the two algorithms about one-against-one model andone-against-others model is introduced. The twin screw extruder fault diagnosis by multi-fault classifier based on SVM is mainly discussed and the retest proves that this SVM really has preferable ability of classification.

Abstract:Based on study of main factors that have great influence on sand liquefaction, the support vector machine (SVM) model of sand liquefactions was established. The nonlinear relation between sand liquefactions and influencing factors was learned from the finite empirical data by SVM model. Then the model was applied to the practical engineering. The results show SVM model of linear kernel function is not enough effective to found the mapping between classification of sand liquefactions and influencing factors; but polynomial kernel functions and radial based function (RBF) kernel can correctly evaluate the classification of sand liquefactions.

Abstract:A novel preprocessing method integrated two-level spaces of process variables was proposed to overcome the effect of noises and outliers in modeling data, which can degrade the performance of the related soft sensor model. The multivariate trimming was first utilized for preprocessing in the primary space. Then, a support vector clustering (SVC) strategy was proposed for outlier detection. The main idea of SVC is to map the data into the feature space and then to find a hyper-sphere with the minimal radius that contains most of the mapped data. Different from most of traditional preprocessing methods, SVC dose not assume that data are distributed (approximately) normally, and thus is more suitable for industrial iron-making processes. After SVC-based preprocessing, a support vector regression soft sensor model was built. An experiment study for an industrial blast furnace is investigated and the results show its superiority, including efficient outlier detection, a more robust support vector regression model and better prediction performance, compared to traditional approaches.
Prediction of nucleic acid-binding proteins using support vector machines

Abstract:In this work,we integrated SVMs,protein sequence amino acid composition,and associated physicochemical properties into the study of nucleic-acid-binding proteins prediction.We developed the binary classification for rRNA-,RNA-,DNA-binding proteins that play an important role in the control of many cell processes.Each SVM model can be used to predict whether a protein belongs to rRNA-,RNA-,or DNA-binding protein class.10-crossvalidation was performed on the protein data sets in which the sequences identity was～40%.Test results show that the accuracies of SVM models for rRNA-,RNA-,DNA-binding proteins are 93.75%,83.41%, 81.85%,respectively.The predictions were also performed on the test data set.The results agree well with the prior knowledge of those proteins and show the effectiveness of physicochemical properties of sequence in the protein function prediction.On the basis of our work,an online server for predicting the nucleic acid-binding proteins using SVM was available on http://chemdata.shu.edu.cn/ protein_na.

Abstract:Reliable prediction of melt index (MI) is crucial in practical propylene polymerization processes. Prediction algorithm of molten pool width based on support vector machine during high-power disk laser welding

Abstract:As an important new laser processing technique,the high-power disk laser welding has been increasingly widely used in the manufacturing area.Aiming at the strong coupling multi-variable and real-time feedback requirements of the welding process,a new method by using support vector machine is proposed to predict the width of the molten pools.The performance of this model is validated by the test data.Meanwhile,analysis and comparison between the support vector machines and the BP neural network are conducted.Experiment results show that the support vector machine and the BP neural network both have a good training and single-step prediction ability and can be applied in the high-power disk laser welding process.However,in comparison with the BP neural network,the support vector machine is more suitable for high-power disk laser welding process.When N is 10,the prediction ability of SVR model reaches the optimum.

Abstract:Support vector machines (SVMs) have been successfully used in many domains, while their application in software reliability prediction is still quite rare. A few SVM- based software reliability prediction models have been proposed in the literature; however, the accuracy of prediction can still be improved. In this paper, we propose an SVM-based model for software reliability prediction and we study issues that affect the prediction accuracy. These issues include: 1. Whether all historical failure data should be used; 2. What type of failure data is more appropriate to use in terms of prediction accuracy. We also compare the prediction accuracy of software reliability prediction models based on SVM and artificial neural network (ANN). Experimental results show that our proposed SVM-based software reliability prediction model could achieve a higher prediction accuracy compared with ANN-based and existing SVM-based models.
