Abstract:The activity of FCC additives of Zn(Al2O)2 with different ZnO contents were prepared by solgel,and the desulfurization effect of additives in the gasoline was evaluated in a micro reactor.The results indicate that the additive with 10% ZnO shows the best desulfurization activity,the conversion of thiophene reaches 12.7%.The activity of the additives with CeO2 was also studied,which can remove 18.13% thiophene from gasoline in the micro reactor.The crystals and acidic of additives were studied by XRD and Infrared Ray.IR results show that weak Lewis acid amounts affected activity of the additives.XRD results indicate that the best crystal of Zn(Al2O)2 spinel is not in favor of removal of thiophene.When the crystallinity is low,there are more active sites with more adsorption activity.The additives show the better desulfurization effects when the adsorption sites and L acid sites reach balance.
Effect of Methanol on Catalytic Performance of Hy Zeolite for Desulfurization of Fcc Gasoline by Alkylation

Abstract:Desulfurization of FCC gasoline by alkylation over a solid acid catalyst is considered to be a viable and less costly path to meet environmental regulations of sulfur emissions. However, side reactions in this process lead to significant levels of coke which greatly reduce the catalyst lifetime. In this paper, experiments were designed in both real and simulated gasoline to investigate the effect of different concentrations of methanol on the catalytic behavior of HY zeolite in the alkylation process for desulfurization. The result showed that the presence of an appropriate amount of methanol in FCC gasoline (about 5 wt % of the feed) appeared to improve the catalyst selectivity for the alkylation of thiophenic compounds by decreasing the conversion of olefins to oligomers, which was favorable for prolonging the catalyst lifetime. Moreover, a deep investigation was also carried out by a theoretical calculation method of DFT to explain the reason for the advantageous effect of methanol on the catalyst performance in the desulfurization process.

Abstract:ZnO/Al2O3 additive was prepared by sol-gel process.After calcined at 700℃,the additive was mixed with catalyst for fluidized catalytic cracking(FCC)process to produce a mixed catalyst.The desulfurization activity of the mixed catalyst was investigated in a FCC industrial simulator and was used to indicate the desulfurization capability of ZnO/Al2O3 additive.The experimental results show that the additive with 10%(mass fraction)of ZnO has the best desulfurization activity with 62.5% of desulfurization efficiency.The desulfurization mechanism of ZnO/Al2O3 additive was studied by IR and XRD.The IR results show that weak L-acid center of ZnO/Al2O3 additive is in favor of desulfurization.The XRD results show that there are many lattice defects in ZnO/Al2O3 additive when the spinel structure is not shaped completely,which can effectively adsorb SOx in flue gas,and convert them to H2S.

Abstract:Additives for fluid catalytic cracking(FCC) process,based on MgAl2O4 having various Mg/Al mole ratios,were prepared by sol-gel method.Test were carried out in a fix bed reactor to observe the effect of olefin reduction in FCC gasoline,and the influence of Mg/Al mole ratio,the modification of Ce and Nb on the additive performance were studied as well.The results indicated that the additives with a Mg/Al mole ratio of 1.0 showed the best reaction activity.The activities of additives modified by Ce and Nb were also proposed.When the content of Ce was 20%,the olefin-reducing rate was over 30% in FCC gasoline.The reaction mechanism was also studied,XRD results showed that Ce/MgAl2O4 and Nb/MgAl2O4 additives could improve hydrogen migration reaction activity,acidity of the additives was researched in Pyridine-IR,it showed that weak acid amounts affected activity of the additives.

Abstract:The additives for reducing the olefins in the fluid catalytic cracking(FCC) gasoline were prepared by peptization.The effect of additives for reducing the olefins in the gasoline was evaluated in the micro reactor.The additive with the molar ratio of Mg and Al(n/n),1∶1,had the best olefins reducing reaction activity.XRD result showed that MgAl_2O_4·MgO spinel was formed in the additive.Studied by Infrared Ray,it was found that the amount of total L acid decreased by adding the content of rare earth.Meanwhile the amounts of weak L acid and the total weak acid increased.Thereby,the hydrogen migration activity of FCC catalyst increased.When the content of the rare earth was 20%,the olefins reducing activity was 45.45%.Studied by XRD,it was thought that the effect of reducing the olefins of the FCC gasoline was the result of the cooperative efforts of MgAl_2O_4 and ReO_2.
Study on Complex Desulphurization Additives for FCC

Abstract:Environmental concerns have resulted in legislation which places limits on the sulfur content of gasoline. However, the major source of sulfur in the gasoline pool is fluidized catalytic cracking (FCC) naphtha which usually contributes 90% of the total in China. Most economic solutions would be to use an FCC catalyst additive which could reduce the sulfur content in the FCC naphtha in situ in the cracker itself. Here a group of additives have been studied. Based on support materials as alumina and magnesium oxide, cerium and iron were added by co-gel method. The additives were blended to 8 000×10~(-6) with a reference FCC-catalyst. By TG analysis, it was revealed that the additive with cerium and iron would strengthen the absorption of oxygen and turn it into the oxygen in the lattice and thus make SO_2 easier to be oxidized and absorbed. The results show that the extent of sulfur removal of the additive with iron for the FCC flue gas can reach up to 85.7% in a simulating device while that the reduction of sulfur for the FCC product will reach 15.8% on the base of FCC-catalyst in fixed fluidizing bed (FFB) unit. It has also been shown that the additive has no effect on the catalyst activity and the FCC product distributions.

Abstract:The effects of Zn and Mg on selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO with C3H6 were studied by introducing Zn and Mg into Ag/Al2O3 catalysts with the rotary evaporation method. The effects of Zn and Mg on the microstructure and denitrification performance were characterized by N2 adsorption–desorption, XRD, UV–vis spectroscopy, H2-TPR, NO + O2-TPD, XPS and HR-TEM. The results showed that bimetallic Zn and Mg modification increased the proportion of ZnAl2O4 and MgAl2O4 spinels in Ag/Al2O3 catalysts, regulated the dispersion of Ag on the Al2O3 support, and promoted the conversion of Ag0 to active Ag+ and Ag δ n + , which enhanced the NO adsorption capacity and optimized denitrification performance at low temperature. Furthermore, in-situ DRIFTS suggested that enol and acetate generated by C3H6 in the presence of H2 will react with NO + O2 to form more –NCO and –CN intermediate species, which facilitated the formation of N2 and improved N2 selectivity. Specially, Ag2.5Zn2.5MgAl exhibited more than 95 % NOx conversion, excellent water resistance and sulfur resistance at 300 °C with GHSV = 100 000 h−1. This process promotes the development of efficient vehicle exhaust treatment technology and the application of related products.

However, side reactions in the process such as alkenes oligomerization and aromatic alkylation lead to the formation of significant amounts of coke, which will greatly reduce the catalyst lifetime and require keeping high catalyst selectivity for thiophenic compounds alkylation. In this paper, both the experimental and theoretical investigations were carried out to further explain the effect of methanol on the catalytic behavior of macroporous sulfonic resins Amberlyst 35 (A35) in the alkylation desulfurization process of FCC gasoline. The results indicated that adding suitable amount of methanol (about 1.0 wt% of the feed gasoline) was beneficial to improve the catalytic behavior of A35 in this process. The competition adsorption of suitable amount of methanol and its ether product with isoalkenes could greatly reduce the activated alkenes on the acid sites of A35 and have little impact on the alkylation of thiophenic sulfurs. They could also decrease the alkenes conversion for side reactions of alkenes oligomerization, which was favorable for improving the catalytic selectivity for thiophenic compounds alkylation and prolonging the catalytic lifetime of A35. EVALUATION OF CATALYTIC CRACKING CATALYST FOR REDUCING SULFUR CONTENT IN GASOLINE

Abstract:A scheme for reducing the sulfur content of gasoline in catalytic cracking process is proposed, and the catalytic cracking catalyst DS Z3 for removing sulfur from FCC gasoline is developed. The desulfurization effect of catalyst is evaluated on a fluidized bed apparatus. Under appropriate ratio of DS Z3 to FCC catalyst and reaction conditions, over 30% sulfur can be reduced in comparison with only FCC catalyst being applied, and the yield of gasoline as well as the yield of C 3+C 4 can be improved simultaneously. The DS Z3 catalyst has excellent propreties of desulfurization and hydrocarbon cracking activity. The alkene content in gasoline can be reduced, and its octane number can be raised by adding DS Z3 catalyst in catalytic cracking process.

Abstract:The desulfurization offluid catalytic cracking (FCC) gasoline by alkylation over solid acid catalysts is considered to be a viable and less costly path to meet environmental regulations of sulfur emissions. However, side reactions in the process lead to significant levels of coke, which will greatly reduce the lifetime of the catalyst. In this paper, the catalytic mechanism of MCM-41 supported phosphoric acid catalyst for gasoline desulfurization by alkylation has been investigated by using experimental methods and quantum chemical calculations to study the catalytic behavior for the adsorption and reaction of different reactants, which can help optimize the reaction conditions and preparation methods of the catalyst for a more efficient alkylation process. The results showed that both the typical main and side reactions in the alkylation process started from a stable alkoxide intermediate that was formed by protonation of olefin adsorbed on the catalyst. Thiophenic compounds were more inclined to be adsorbed on the alkoxide intermediate than olefins for further reaction, and the activation energy for the alkylation of thiophenic sulfurs with alkenes was obviously lower than that for alkene oligomerization. Moreover, the thiophene alkylation was exothermic while the olefin oligomerization was endothermic. On the basis of these findings obtained by experimental and theoretical investigation, two methods that might be useful to further inhibit the occurrence of side reactions and improve the catalyst performance in the alkylation process were proposed.

Abstract:Abstract Reaction adsorption desulfurization technology is one of the main means of gasoline desulfurization. In this work, ZnO nanoparticles were prepared by pyrolytic oxidation using ZIF-8 as precursor. ZnO spheres with particle size of 5 nm can be formed after the pyrolysis of Zif-8. Ni/ZnO5nm prepared by equal volume impregnation method can achieve 99.2% desulfurization rate at 390°C, which has more excellent desulfurization performance compared to Ni/ZnO100nm. Ni/ZnO@ZSM-5 was synthesized by in-situ growth-pyrolysis oxidation-equal volume impregnation method. In the reaction adsorption desulfurization process of FCC gasoline, the desulfurization rate reached 99.5%, and the aromatic content in the product increased by 10.7 percentage points, showing excellent octane number improvement. This work provides new ideas for the synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles as well as novel reactive adsorbent desulfurizers, and promotes the development of S-Zorb process.

NiO/ZnO-SiO2-Al2O3 is an effective adsorbent for reactive adsorption desulfurization of fluid catalytic cracking gasoline. The reaction conditions, such as reaction temperature, total pressure, weight hourly space velocity, and volume ratio of hydrogen to oil for desulfurization over NiO/ZnO-SiO2-Al2O3 in a fixed-fluidized bed reactor were investigated. With the optimum conditions, the sulfur content of FCC gasoline can be decreased from 180 to 11.6 mg·L−1, and the loss of olefin content of gasoline product is 1.05%, the research octane number loss of gasoline product is only 1.3 unit.

Abstract:Bifunctional composite catalysts Zr/H[Zn](x)Z with different Zn contents were prepared by combining the impregnation and physical mixing method. The effect of zinc species on two active sites in bifunctional composite catalysts Zr/ H[Zn]ZSM-S for alkylation of benzene with syngas has been investigated. The results indicated that the introduction of Zn greatly improves the catalytic performance and the selectivity of target products and changed with the change of Zn content. The sample Zr/H[Zn](3)Z exhibited the highest total selectivity of toluene and xylene of 91% and the benzene conversion of 18% at 400 degrees C under 3.3 MPa; nevertheless, the sample Zr/H[Zn](5)Z showed the highest benzene conversion and xylene selectivity, which reached 31 and 27%, respectively. The acidic properties and state of Zn species of H[Zn](x)Z zeolites have been explored. All evidence suggested that most of Zn introduced into HZ zeolite existed in the catalyst as Zn(OH)(+), forming new Zn-Lewis acid at the expense of Bronsted acid. The Zn species plays a role in three aspects in the alkylation reaction between benzene and syngas. First, the Zn species can provide H species for ZrO2 activation of CO by promoting H-2 activation, thus generating more methanol; second, Zn(OH)(+) species formed in zeolite can inhibit the side reactions of methanol so as to promote the alkylation of benzene and methanol; finally, the Zn-Lewis acidic sites can inhibit the cracking reaction of C-6(+) olefins and further promote the dehydrogenation aromatization reaction.

Abstract:A series of Cu/Zn/Al/Zr CO 2 hydrogenation to methanol catalysts containing different ratios of Al/Zr were prepared using a co-precipitation procedure. SEM, TEM, and XRD characterization showed that all the catalysts comprised crystallites in a fibrous structure and their Cu/Zn crystallite dispersions were better than that of a commercial (COM) catalyst. It is suggested that the high dispersion and stability of the Cu/Zn crystallites due to the fibrous structure enhanced CO 2 hydrogenation, and the added Zr component further improved the catalyst. A 5% Zr addition gave a methanol space time yield 80% higher than that on the COM catalyst.

Abstract:In response to the issue of hydrocarbon emissions during the cold start process of gasoline engines, a hydrocarbon catcher coated with ZSM-5 zeolite was manufactured. The post-treatment system of the prototype vehicle was modified to install the hydrocarbon catcher, and cold start experiments on the vehicle under World Light-vehicle Test Cycle (WLTC) conditions were conducted. The experimental results showed that the hydrocarbon emissions in the low-speed stage of WLTC were much higher than those in other stages. In the early stages of cold start, the hydrocarbon catcher can reduce hydrocarbon emissions by up to 61 %. The analysis results of engine emissions showed that the content of various hydrocarbon components during cold start was: 60.1 % butene, 13.6 % acetylene, 11.3 % propylene, 7.3 % ethylene, 7.1 % acetaldehyde, and 0.6 % other components. Further molecular simulation studies were conducted on zeolite of different types and Si/Al ratios. The results showed that the adsorption of hydrocarbons on pure Si-MFI and -FER zeolites were less affected by H2O and CO2, making them ideal hydrocarbon capture materials. Al substitution introduced compensating cations into zeolite, which increased the adsorption capacity of H2O, CO2, and C2H4O with polar functional groups. Reducing the degree of Si/Al substitution is beneficial for hydrocarbon adsorption.

Abstract:Reactive adsorption desulfurization over metal oxides adsorbents was carried out to remove the sulfur of real fluid catalytic cracking gasoline and model gasoline in a batch reactor at low pressures in the presence of hydrogen. The results show that Ni appearing after reduction and higher temperature leads to a significant improvement in the desulfurization ability of the adsorbents. When the initial concentration of thiophene in the model gasoline raised the sulfur, removal rate decreased while the adsorption capacity of the adsorbents increased and the maximum sulfur removal rate and sulfur adsorption capacity were 86.33% and 13.72 mg/g, respectively.

Abstract:To develop a novel additive that has excellent olefin reduction capability for FCC gasoline without loss in octane number, different additives based on magnesia-alumina spinel were prepared by sol–gel method. The catalytic activities of additives for reducing the olefins in the fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) gasoline were assessed in a micro fixed bed reactor and the influences of Mg/Al ratio, the modification of La and Nb on the additive performance were studied as well. Results indicated that the additive with the Mg/Al ratio of 1.0 possessed the highest reaction activity due to the formation of MgAl2O4·MgO spinel. The activities of additives modified by La and Nb were also improved, for example, the reaction activity of additive with 4–5 wt% La was 34%. The XRD results showed that the effect of reducing olefin was the function of both MgAl2O4·MgO spinel and La m O n or MgAl2O4·MgO spinel and Nb2O5.

Abstract:Silica sol was prepared with commercial product water glass and aluminum sulfate as materials and adopting one-step acidification method.The silica-based additive was prepared using the silica sol as agglomerant and adding functionality components,such as kaolin clay and ZSM-5 zeolite.The effects of the preparation conditions on the stability of silica sol were investigated,and the reaction performance of the silica-based additive were evaluated in a miniature riser reactor.The results showed that the optimum preparation conditions for silica sol were:the mass concentration of aluminum sulfate(by Al2O3) and water glass(by SiO2)8-10g/L,75-100g/L respectively,the reaction temperature less than 20℃,the pH value of sol system 2.5-3.0.Through adding the silica-based additive into the FCC catalyst,the yield of liquefied petroleum gas increased,the yield of light oil decreased,the yield of total liquid were steady,the yield of propylene increased by more than 30%,the selectivity of propylene increased by more than 3 percent poins,and the octane number of gasoline increased by about 1 unit.
