Abstract:In this paper,it aim at Panzhihua Steel RH refining process in the high carbon content and instability in IF steel production.its production process tracking survey shows that the impact of the carbon content of the main factors are RH initial steel[C]and a[o],vacuum degree,decarburization time,carbon picking-up in molten steel caused by ladle refractory materials and alloys about Carbon Control of RH Refining Process for IF Steel in Panzhihua iron and steel company(PZHISC).If the carbon content is more than 0.045%,the end carbon content increases by initial carbon content.If the lowest vacuum degree is lower and progressing time is longer,the end carbon content is higher.To ensure that the carbon content of Panzhihua Iron and Steel IF steel qualified,initial[C]and a[o]should be controlled of 0.030%～0.045%and(500-700)×10~(-6), strengthen monitoring and maintenance of RH equipments are both needed to maintain adequate deep vacuum time and further reduce the vacuum degree.Also,in order to reduce the carbon picking-up in molten steel during the latter part of RH process,on the premise of ensuring no solid steel on vacuum chamber,the ladle with a carbon-free slag line and low-carbon alloys should be used.

Abstract:In the present paper, low carbon steel strips with different phosphorus contents were produced using a twin roll strip casting process. The solidification structure was studied and its features were analyzed in detail. It was found that the strips possessed a fine microstructure compared with the mould cast steels. With increasing phosphorus content more ferrite has been formed with finer grains.

Abstract:The production process was tracked and investigated by aiming the problem on RH refining process in the high carbon content and instability in IF steel production at Panzhihua Steel Works.Industrial experiments of technique optimization on IF steel in RH degasser was done by controlling technique psocesses of converter end point and the oxygen activity of molten steel and the slag composition and the oxygenation in the ladle,as well as the time of decarburization so on.Industrial experiments showed that the fluctuation range of the carbon content was small when IF molten steel left from RH degasser.Adding the carbon powder,the oxygen activity of decarburization molten steel was controlled at 121×10-6～318×10-6 and its average value was 230.1×10-6,it was lower than original process about 120×10-6,purity of molten steel was improved.Adopting the slag-modifier of high alkalinity adjusted the composition in the ladle,the content of CaO increased and the content of Al2O3 decreased and slag sticking phenomenon of inserted ducts were mitigated obviously.

Abstract:Abstract Nitrogen content has an prominent effect on the properties of rolling material and demands should be paid more attention. Even then the residuary nitrogen in steel is quite small, it has an impotent effect on the mechanical properties of materials. The present nitrogen content control process is relatively briefness and it needs to be farther studied. In this paper, through the analysis of possible nitrogen increase and nitrogen control-related production processes in the whole metallurgical process of steel, nitrogen control, and nitrogen reduction are carried out in stages by using an optimized smelting process. After adopting the new process, the final nitrogen in EAF can be reduced by 50%, the vacuum nitrogen removal efficiency can be increased by 20%, the nitrogen increase in continuous casting can be controlled below 5 ppm, and the final nitrogen content in rolled steel can be reduced to below 50 ppm.

Abstract:Abstract The global steel industry is integral to the development of modern infrastructure, yet it stands as one of the most significant contributors to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions worldwide. This dichotomy brings forth the imperative for an in-depth analysis of GHG inventory practices and the pursuit of sustainable production methods. This mini-review paper addresses the current methodologies for GHG accounting within the steel sector, emphasizing the critical role of accurate and transparent emissions data as the basis for effective climate change mitigation strategies. Evaluating the prevalent carbon-intensive blast furnace-basic oxygen furnace (BF-BOF) production route, this paper contrasts traditional practices with innovative reduction initiatives, particularly those aligned with the emergence of green steel. We delve into the advancements in electric arc furnace (EAF) technology, direct reduced iron (DRI) processes utilizing green hydrogen, and the potential of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) systems. The analysis extends to a critical examination of the challenges and opportunities these technologies face, including economic viability, scalability, and the readiness of energy infrastructure to support such a transition. Further, this review highlights the significance of verification and validation in reinforcing the credibility of GHG inventories. We scrutinize the materiality of reported emissions in the context of evolving regulatory frameworks and stakeholder expectations, stressing the need for standardized and rigorous assurance practices. Abstract:Abstract The reclamation management of the solid waste produced by iron and steel enterprises is an urgent problem. The recycling and utilization of kish graphite associated with steel slag are of great significance to achieve a circular economy and environmental protection. This study explored a recycling process that combined gravity separation and flotation, and the feasibility of carburant preparation from kish graphite was determined. During the recycling process, the concentrate of a teeter bed separator went into a flotation tank, then the rougher flotation concentrate was re-ground four times and underwent cleaning flotation five times. The final concentrate held a yield of 20.28%, a grade of 94.85%, and a recovery rate of 95.32% and a kish-graphite-based carburant was prepared. The results indicated that recycling the kish graphite from steelmaking slag with a gravity-flotation process and using it as a carburant for steelmaking is a feasible route for its resource utilisation and an effective carbon emission reduction technology.

Abstract:Abstract N content has the important influence on the performance of rolled material and needs to be keep a watchful eye. However, the current N content control course is relatively simple and needs to be further studied. Starting from the full steel smelting course, through the analysis of the influence factors of increasing N in liquid steel and conditions, found that the main node control enhance of N in liquid steel and operating points, summed up the appropriate bottom blowing N gas pressure and flow rate, improve the control level of bottom blowing N and N content, the ability of N steel smelting in batches, ensure the quality of liquid steel meets the demand of high standard special steel, at the same time achieving production cost reduction.

Abstract:The steel industry is one of the most carbon-intensive industries in China. To analyze the carbon emission and carbon reduction potential of the steel industry in the life cycle, a carbon emission accounting model was built from the perspective of the life cycle. Taking the year 2020 as an example, an empirical analysis was carried out to predict and evaluate the carbon reduction potential of the steel industry in the life cycle by optimizing four variables, namely, scrap usage, fossil fuel combustion, electric power carbon footprint factor, and clean transportation proportion. At the same time, sensitivity analysis was used to determine the key degree of factors affecting carbon emission reduction in the life cycle of steel. The results showed that in 2020, the total life cycle CO2 emissions of the steel industry in China was approximately 2.404 billion tons, of which the acquisition and processing of raw materials were the key links in the carbon emissions of the steel industry, accounting for more than 98% of the total life cycle CO2 emissions of the steel industry. From the analysis of CO2 emission source categories, fossil fuel savings and outsourcing power cleaning were the top priorities of carbon reduction in the steel industry. By 2025, the steel industry could achieve 20%, 6%, 5%, and 1% carbon emission reduction potential by respectively promoting low-carbon technology, optimizing the power structure, increasing the number of steel scraps, and increasing the proportion of clean transportation. The fossil fuel combustion had the most significant impact on the life cycle CO2 emissions of the steel industry, followed by the electric power carbon footprint factor and scrap steelmaking usage. With regard to low-carbon technologies in the steel industry, in the short term, the promotion of low-carbon technologies in the steel rolling process and blast furnace ironmaking process should be the main focus. Later, with the gradual increase in the proportion of electric furnace steelmaking, the promotion of low-carbon technologies in the electric furnace steelmaking process will significantly improve the carbon emission reduction potential of the steel industry throughout its life cycle.

Abstract:In order to promote the intelligent transformation and upgrading of the steel industry, intelligent technology features based on the current situation and challenges of the steel industry are discussed in this paper. Based on both domestic and global research, functional analysis, reasonable positioning, and process optimization of each aspect of steel making are expounded. The current state of molten steel quality and implementation under narrow window control is analyzed. A method for maintaining stability in the narrow window control technology of steel quality is proposed, controlled by factors including composition, temperature, time, cleanliness, and consumption (raw material). Important guidance is provided for the future development of a green and intelligent steel manufacturing process.

It can be estimated that much more than 10 thousand tons of CO2 are produced every year in the iron and steel making-process concomitantly, and this number is continuously increasing. Currently, there are several effective methods for CO2 emission control in China, including energy economy, scrap smelting, and recycling of CO2. Abstract:With its high energy consumption and pollutant emissions, the iron and steel industry is a significant source of air pollution and carbon emissions in the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei (BTH) region. To improve air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, a series of policies involving ultra-low emission, synergistic reduction of pollution, and carbon application have been implemented in the region. This study has assessed air pollutant and CO 2 emission patterns in the iron and steel industry of the region by employing co-control effects coordinate system, marginal abatement cost curve, and numerical modeling, along with the synergistic benefits of typical technologies. The results have demonstrated that: (1) the intensive production activities pertinent to iron and steel enterprises has contributed greatly to the emission in Tangshan and Handan, where the sintering process is the main source of SO 2 , NOx, PM 2.5 , and CO, accounting for 64.86%, 55.15%, 29.98%, and 46.43% of the total emissions, respectively. (2) Among the typical pollution control and reduction measures, industrial restructuring and adjustment of the energy-resource structure have led to the greatest effects on emission reduction. Technologies exhibiting great potential in emission reduction and high-cost efficiency such as Blast Furnace Top Gas Recovery Turbine Unit (TRT) need to be promoted. (3) In Tangshan city with the highest level of steel production, the iron and steel production activities contributed to the concentration of 30.51% of PM 2.5 , 50.67% of SO 2 , and 42.54% of NO 2 during the non-heating period. During the heating period, pollutants pertinent to the combustion of fossil energy for heating have increased, while iron and steel induced emissions have decreased to 23.7%, 34.32%, and 29.13%, respectively. By 2030, it is speculated that the contribution of the iron and steel industry to air quality will be significantly decreased as result of successful implementation of ultra-low emission policies and typical synergistic reduction technologies.

Abstract:The iron and steel industry (ISI) is energy-intensive and is responsible for approximately 25% of the global direct greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from industrial sectors. As the largest steel producer and consumer, China bears the primary responsibility for saving energy and reducing GHG emissions; accordingly, they have developed many strategies for GHG abatement. However, owing to the high investment costs and long equipment service lives, the ISI must carefully weigh the cost and emission reduction potential of these approaches. This review discusses research findings aimed at technological improvements and ultra-low carbon technologies relevant to the ISI, emphasizing their cost-effectiveness and development prospects. Based on the life cycle analysis method, this review establishes a comprehensive analytical framework to integrate the results from different studies to consider more factors in the design of GHG emission reduction strategies. The results indicate that the full application of mainstream technological improvements can reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 43%. Furthermore, combining these strategies with ultra-low carbon technologies can achieve a reduction of 80%-95%. The marginal cost reduction associated with implementing such technological improvements is in the range of -5 to 0.5 USD/kgCO(2). Applying carbon capture, utilization, and storage strategies or hydrogen-based technologies in China's ISI for deep decarbonization scenarios is expected to lead to cost reductions between 12 and 35 billion USD by 2050. We propose that China's ISI requires technological improvements in the short term and should prioritize ultra-low carbon technology development for the long term.

Abstract:The process management during the transportation of molten steel for gear steel production from BOF to electric furnace shop for further refining in the No.2 plant of a steel and iron company is briefly discussed.The dephosphorus and slag stopping in BOF,and the electricity delivery and calcium disposal in LF,important procedures affecting product quality,are included in the paper.Meanwhile the rolling process is also improved,and the advanced TMCP technique of controlled rolling and controlled cooling(CRCC technology) is adopted.Thus,rolled products with more consistent quality are obtained.

Control of oxide inclusion for low carbon and low silicon steel

Abstract:In order to improve the castability of molten steel and avoid casting break by nozzle clogging the processes of converter such as the post-stirring,top slag deoxidization and carbon deoxidization by RH are optimized on the basis of the production practice in low carbon and low silicon steel in Chongqing steel.Since the process improvement,the quality fraction of BOF end point oxygen has been decreased by 127×10-6,the quality fraction of FeO and MnO in the slag reduced to less than 5%,addition amount of ferro-aluminum decreased by 0.38~0.43 kg/t,oxide inclusion decreased effectively and the quality fraction of T.O controlled in the range of(14~25)×10-6.Production practice shows that by adoption of "BOF→RH→CC" processing route in production of low carbon and low silicon steel the cleanliness of the steel can be improved and the continuous casting heats of single tundish reaches 18 heats.

Abstract:High-carbon steel wires used for bridge cables, tire reinforcement materials and cutting materials of silicon ingot for photovoltaic industry require an extremely fine diameter and high strength. Poor control of centerline segregation, inclusion and microstructure of high-carbon steel is detrimental to drawability and subsequent fatigue performance. Prof. Weiqing Chen's group at the University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB) has been investigating the quality control of high-carbon steel through a low-cost one-stage hot rolling process since 2000. This paper reviews the main research from this group. The laboratory-scale and industrial results are presented. Intensive secondary cooling, final electromagnetic stirring (F-EMS), final permanent magnetic stirring (F-PMS), and soft reduction are investigated and applied to control centerline segregation, and the application scope is also discussed. A combination of redesign of submerged entry nozzle (SEN) and refining slag, utilization of Al-free refractory and the addition of low-melting-point compounds is studied and applied effectively to control inclusions. Measurements and mechanisms to control network cementite, martensite, banded structure and undesired texture are investigated and discussed. Integration of the above research has achieved industrial application in more than 10 steelworks and was further extended to application in spring steel, welding wire steel and some other wire rods.

Abstract:With the aggravation of environmental pollution and the shortage of zinc resources， the iron and steel industry pays more and more attention to the treatment of dust and mud. In order to efficiently utilize resources and reduce environmental pollution， researchers have developed a variety of processes to recover zinc metal from iron and steel dust and mud. In this paper， the source and chemical composition of iron and steel dust and mud are explored， the process flow and characteristics of physical method， wet method， fire method， microwave method， chloride method and plasma method are described， and their advantages and disadvantages are analyzed from the reduction efficiency， energy consumption and other aspects. The results show that the physical method is simple and suitable for the pretreatment of fire and wet dezinc process. The selective leaching ability of wet process is strong， but the solvent corrodes the equipment seriously and it is difficult to remove impurities later. Pyrotechnics are widely used， but energy consumption and pollution are the main limiting factors. Microwave， chloride and plasma methods， as emerging technologies， have superior dezincing performance compared with traditional processes， but there are also some problems in practical application that need to be further improved. Finally， in order to respond to the policy of "carbon peak， carbon neutral"， this paper proposes the hydrocarbon-coupled reduction dezinc process according to the excellent environmental performance of the hydrogen metallurgy process and the mature and stable rotary hearth furnace process， which can effectively reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the steel industry， reduce energy consumption， and improve the metallization rate of rotary hearth furnace process. It is hoped that the above work can provide valuable reference for the development of the process of removing zinc from iron and steel dust and mud.

Abstract:Oxygen content of gear steel was decreased and the cleanliness improved by optimizing and controlling EAF smelting,refining and continuous casting process,and adopting a series of technical measures with increasing hot metal charging rate,pre-deoxidation and protection casting and so on in Special Steel Plant of Laiwu Iron and Steel Co.,Ltd..The results showed that the oxygen content of 20CrMnTiH and its affiliated steel grade was decreased from 25×10-6 to 18×10-6 after optimization,and the lowest was 11×10-6.
