Abstract:It is proved that if two Cr (r ≥ 3) S-unimodal maps without periodic or Cantor attractors are conjugate, and the conjugacy preserves the multipliers of periodic points, then the conjugacy is Cr. This solves a conjecture of Martens and de Melo.

Abstract:Let $X$ denote the `conifold smoothing', the symplectic Weinstein manifold which is the complement of a smooth conic in $T^*S^3$, or equivalently the plumbing of two copies of $T^*S^3$ along a Hopf link. Let $Y$ denote the `conifold resolution', by which we mean the complement of a smooth divisor in $\mathcal{O}(-1) \oplus \mathcal{O}(-1) \to \mathbb{P}^1$. We prove that the compactly supported symplectic mapping class group of $X$ splits off a copy of an infinite rank free group, in particular is infinitely generated; and we classify spherical objects in the bounded derived category $D(Y)$ (the three-dimensional `affine $A_1$-case'). Our results build on work of Chan-Pomerleano-Ueda and Toda, and both theorems make essential use of working on the `other side' of the mirror.

Topological and smooth classification of Anosov maps on torus

Abstract:In this paper, we give a complete topological and smooth classification of non-invertible Anosov maps on torus. We show that two non-invertible Anosov maps on torus are topologically conjugate if and only if their corresponding periodic points have the same Lyapunov exponents on the stable bundles. As a corollary, if two $C^r$ non-invertible Anosov maps on torus are topologically conjugate, then the conjugacy is $C^r$-smooth along the stable foliation. Moreover, we show that the smooth conjugacy class of a non-invertible Anosov map on torus is completely determined by the Jacobians of return maps at periodic points.

Abstract:We introduce the notion of multiplier, a real-valued bihomogeneous polynomial M-F is an element of C[z(1),(z) over bar (1), . . . ,z(r)(+s),(z) over bar (r+s)] canonically associated to a rational proper map F from a generalized ball D-r,D-s to another generalized ball. We prove that the multiplier MF essentially determines the map F and hence one can study the structure of rational proper mappings among generalized balls through the multiplier. We use the multiplier to study degree-2 rational proper maps from D-2,D-2 to an arbitrary D-r,D-s, demonstrating first of all that one may confine itself to the cases where r,s >= 2 and r + s <= 10 without loss of generality. Then, we show that for each maximal case, i.e. whenever r + s = 10, there exists a real one-parameter family of non-equivalent degree-2 holomorphic proper maps. Finally, we give a complete description of all degree-2 rational proper maps from D-2,D-2 to D-3,D-3, which is the minimal case where there are non-standard mappings.

Abstract:Consider a multimodal interval map $f$ of $C^3$ with non-flat critical points. We establish several characterizations of the map $f$ is quasi-symmetrically conjugated to a piecewise affine map in the case $f$ is topologically exact and all of its periodic points are hyperbolic repelling. In particular, we give a negative answer to a question posted by Henk Bruin in \cite{Bru96}.

Abstract:We devote this work to the functional equation $\psi \circ g = g\circ \psi$, where $\psi$ is an unknown function and $g$ is piecewise linear unimodal map, which is topologically conjugated to the tent map. We will call such $\psi$ self-semiconjugations of $g$. Our the main results are the following: 1. Suppose that there is a self-semiconjugation of $g$, whose tangent at $0$ is not a power of $2$, and suppose that all the kinks of $g$ are in the complete pre-image of $0$. Then all the self-semiconjugations of $g$ are piecewise linear. 2. Suppose that all self-semiconjugations of $g$ are piecewise linear. Then the conjugacy of $g$ and the tent map is piecewise linear.

Abstract:Using a smooth version of the Connes–Thom isomorphism in Grensing’s bivariant K-theory for locally convex algebras, we prove an equivariant version of the Connes–Thom isomorphism in periodic cyclic homology. As an application, we prove that periodic cyclic homology is invariant with respect to equivariant strict deformation quantizations.

Abstract:We introduce here a classification of unimodal maps $[0, 1]\rightarrow [0, 1]$, which commute with piecewise linear surjective maps $[0, 1]\rightarrow [0, 1]$. Remind that if continuous piecewise linear unimodal map $g$ commutes with a non-constant piecewise linear map $\psi$, which is not an iteration of $g$, then $g$ is topologically conjugated with the tent map by piecewise linear conjugacy. We use the obtained classification to illustrate the mentioned fact.

Abstract:Given two univalent harmonic mappings $f_1$ and $f_2$ on $\mathbb{D}$, which lift to minimal surfaces via the Weierstrass-Enneper representation theorem, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for $f_3=(1-s)f_1+sf_2$ to lift to a minimal surface for $s\in[0,1]$. We then construct such mappings from Enneper's surface to Scherk's singularly periodic surface, Sckerk's doubly periodic surface to the catenoid, and the 4-Enneper surface to the 4-noid.

Abstract:This paper establishes an equivalence between existence of free involutions on $H{\mathbb{C}}P^{3}$ and existence of involutions on S 6 with fixed point set an imbedded S 3, then a family of counterexamples of the Smith conjecture for imbeddings of S 3 in S 6 are given by known result on $H{\mathbb{C}}P^{3}$ . In addition, this paper also shows that every smooth homotopy complex projective three-space admits no orientation preserving smooth free involution, which answers an open problem (Petrie T in Lecture Notes in Mathematics, Springer, New York, Vol. 298, pp. 234–259, 1972). Moreover, the study of existence problem for smooth orientation preserving involutions on $H{\mathbb{C}}P^{3}$ is completed.

Abstract:One way to better understand the smooth mapping class group of the 4-sphere would be to give a list of generators in the form of explicit diffeomorphisms supported in neighborhoods of submanifolds, in analogy with Dehn twists on surfaces. As a step in this direction, we describe a surjective homomorphism from a group associated to loops of 2-spheres in $S^2 \times S^2$'s onto this smooth mapping class group, discuss two natural and in some sense complementary subgroups of the domain of this homomomorphism, show that one is in the kernel, and give generators as above for the image of the other. These generators are described as twists along Montesinos twins, i.e. pairs of embedded 2-spheres in the 4-sphere intersecting transversely at two points.

Abstract:We study geometrically finite one-dimensional mappings. These are a subspace of $C^{1+\alpha}$ one-dimensional mappings with finitely many, critically finite critical points. We study some geometric properties of a mapping in this subspace. We prove that this subspace is closed under quasisymmetrical conjugacy. We also prove that if two mappings in this subspace are topologically conjugate, they are then quasisymmetrically conjugate. We show some examples of geometrically finite one-dimensional mappings.

Abstract:We prove the Kawaguchi-Silverman conjecture (KSC), about the equality of arithmetic degree and dynamical degree, for every surjective endomorphism of any (possibly singular) projective surface. In high dimensions, we show that KSC holds for every surjective endomorphism of any $\mathbb{Q}$-factorial Kawamata log terminal projective variety admitting an int-amplified endomorphism, provided that KSC holds for any surjective endomorphism with the ramification divisor being totally invariant and irreducible. In particular, we show that KSC holds for every surjective endomorphism of any rationally connected smooth projective threefold admitting an int-amplified endomorphism. The main ingredients are the equivariant minimal model program, the effectiveness of the anti-canonical divisor and a characterization of toric pairs.

Conjugacy of transitive SFTs minus periodic points

Abstract:It is a question of Hochman whether any two one-dimensional topologically mixing subshifts of finite type (SFTs) with the same entropy are topologically conjugate when their periodic points are removed. We give a negative answer, in fact we prove the stronger result that there is a canonical correspondence between topological conjugacies of transitive SFTs and topological conjugacies between the systems obtained by removing the periodic points.

Abstract:In our paper, we introduce special-generic-like maps or SGL maps as smooth maps and study their several algebraic topological and differential topological properties. The new class generalize the class of so-called special generic maps. Special generic maps are smooth maps which are locally projections or the product maps of Morse functions and the identity maps on disks. Morse functions with exactly two singular points on spheres or Morse functions in Reeb's theorem are simplest examples. Special generic maps and the manifolds of their domains have been studied well. Their structures are simple and this help us to study explicitly. As important properties, they have been shown to restrict the topologies and the differentiable structures of the manifolds strongly by Saeki and Sakuma, followed by Nishioka, Wrazidlo and the author. To cover wider classes of manifolds as the domains, the author previously introduced a class generalizing the class of special generic maps and smaller than our class: simply generalized special generic maps.

Abstract:Let $S$ and $S'$ be orientable finite-type surfaces of genus $g\geq 4$ and $g'$, respectively. We prove that every multitwist-preserving map between pure mapping class groups $\text{PMap}(S)\to \text{PMap}(S')$ is induced by a multi-embedding.
