Abstract:In this paper, we review our recent results and the methods of proofs in [15] in which it is proved that the Hodge metric completion of the moduli space of polarized and marked Calabi-Yau manifolds, i.e. the Torelli space, is a complex affine manifold. As applications it is proved that the period map from the Torelli space and the extended period map from its completion space, both are injective into the period domain, and that the period map from the moduli space of polarized Calabi-Yau manifolds with level m structure is also injective.

Abstract:We consider the deformations of complex orbifolds with the underlying smooth structures being fixed. As a corollary, we can prove that the deformations of a Calabi-Yau orbifold is unobstructed by using standard arguments. Then we consider the period map for a family of complex Kähler orbifolds. We prove that the period map is holomorphic, horizontal and consistent with our Kodaira-Spencer map.

We also prove that a compact Calabi--Yau manifold can not be deformed to its complex conjugate. These results answer certain open questions in the subject. A general result about the period map to be bi-holomorphic from the Hodge metric completion space of the Torelli space of Calabi--Yau type manifolds to their period domains is proved and applied to the cases of K$3$ surfaces, cubic fourfolds, and hyperk\"ahler manifolds.

Abstract:In this paper we first study the moduli spaces related to Calabi-Yau manifolds. We then apply the results to the following problem. Let $C$ be a fixed Riemann surface with fixed finite number of points on it. Given a CY manifold with fixed topological type, we consider the set of all families of CY manifolds of the fixed topological type over $C$ with degenerate fibres over the fixed points up to isomorphism. This set is called Shafarevich set. The analogue of Shafarevich conjecture for CY manifolds is for which topological types of CY the Shafarevich set is finite. It is well-known that the analogue of Shafarevich conjecture is closely related to the study of the moduli space of polarized CY manifolds and the moduli space of the maps of fixed Riemann surface to the coarse moduli space of the CY manifolds. We prove the existence of the Teichmüller space of CY manifolds together with a universal family of marked CY manifolds. From this result we derive the existence of a finite cover of the coarse moduli space which is a non-singular quasi-projective manifold. Over this cover we construct a family of polarized CY manifolds. We study the moduli space of maps of the fixed Riemann with fixed points on it to the moduli space of CY manifolds constructed in the paper such that the maps map the fixed points on the Riemann surface to the discriminant locus. If this moduli space of maps is finite then Shafarevich conjecture holds. We relate the analogue of Shafarevich problem to the non-vanishing of the Yukawa coupling. We give also a counter example of the Shafarevich problem for a class of CY manifolds.

Abstract:In this paper we construct various moduli spaces of K3 surfaces $M$ equipped with a surjective holomorphic map $\pi:M\to\Pb^1$ with generic fiber a complex torus (e.g., an elliptic fibration). Examples include moduli spaces of such maps with primitive fibers; with reduced, irreducible fibers; equipped with a section; etc. Such spaces are closely related to the moduli space of Ricci-flat metrics on $M$. We construct period mappings relating these moduli spaces to locally symmetric spaces, and use these to compute their (orbifold) fundamental groups. These results lie in contrast to, and exhibit different behavior than, the well-studied case of moduli spaces of polarized K3 surfaces, and are more useful for applications to the mapping class group $\Mod(M)$. Indeed, we apply our results on moduli space to give two applications to the smooth mapping class group of $M$.

Abstract:The period morphism of polarized hyper-Kähler manifolds of K3 -type gives an embedding of each connected component of the moduli space of polarized hyper-Kähler manifolds of K3 -type into their period space, which is the quotient of a Hermitian symmetric domain by an arithmetic group. Following work of Stellari and Gritsenko-Hulek-Sankaran, we study the ramification of covering maps between these period spaces that arise from the action of some groups of isometries.

Abstract:We study the period map of configurations of n points on the projective line constructed via a cyclic cover branching along these points. By considering the decomposition of its Hodge structure into eigenspaces, we establish the codimension of the locus where the eigenperiod map is still pure. Furthermore, we show that the period map extends to the divisors of a specific moduli space of weighted stable rational curves, and that this extension satisfies a local Torelli map along its fibers.

Abstract:For certain complex projective manifolds (such as K3 surfaces and their higher dimensional analogues, the complex symplectic projective manifolds) the period map takes values in a locally symmetric variety of type IV. It is often an open embedding and in such cases it has been observed that the image is the complement of a locally symmetric divisor. We explain that phenomenon and get our hands on the complementary divisor in terms of geometric data.
