Abstract:It is shown that some topological equivalency classes of S-unimodal maps are equal to quasisymmetric conjugacy classes. This includes some infinitely renormalizable polynomials of unbounded type.

Abstract:We study the quasisymmetric geometry of the Julia sets of McMullen maps fλ(z) = zm + λ/zℓ, where λ ∈ ℂ {0} and ℓ and m are positive integers satisfying 1/ℓ+1/m < 1. If the free critical points of fλ are escaped to the infinity, we prove that the Julia set Jλ of fλ is quasisymmetrically equivalent to either a standard Cantor set, a standard Cantor set of circles or a round Sierpiński carpet (which is also standard in some sense). If the free critical points are not escaped, we give a suffcient condition on λ such that Jλ is a Sierpiński carpet and prove that most of them are quasisymmetrically equivalent to some round carpets. In particular, there exist infinitely renormalizable rational maps whose Julia sets are quasisymmetrically equivalent to the round carpets.

Abstract:In this paper, we give a family of rational maps whose Julia sets are Cantor circles and show that every rational map whose Julia set is a Cantor set of circles must be topologically conjugate to one map in this family on their corresponding Julia sets. In particular, we give the specific expressions of some rational maps whose Julia sets are Cantor circles, but they are not topologically conjugate to any McMullen maps on their Julia sets. Moreover, some non-hyperbolic rational maps whose Julia sets are Cantor circles are also constructed.

Abstract:In this paper, we establish several characterizations of freely quasiconformal mappings in Banach spaces in terms of quasisymmetry in the quasihyperbolic metric. This provides a partial solution to an open problem posed by Väisälä. Also, we consider the special case when the control function satisfies η(t)≤Mt for some M≥1.

Abstract:The Schur functions, a basis for the symmetric polynomials (Sym), encode the irreducible representations of the symmetric group, $\mathfrak{S}_n$, via the Frobenius characteristic map. In 1996, Krob and Thibon defined a quasisymmetric Frobenius map on the representations of $\mathcal{H}_n(0)$, mapping them to the quasisymmetric functions (QSym). Despite the obvious inclusion of Sym in QSym and the close relationship between $\mathfrak{S}_n$ and $\mathcal{H}_n(0)$, there is no known direct link between these two Frobenius characteristic maps and the related representations. We explore three specific situations in which a deformation of an $\mathfrak{S}_n$ action results in a valid $\mathcal{H}_n(0)$ action and gives a quasisymmetric Frobenius characteristic that is equal to the symmetric Frobenius characteristic. We introduce the concept of quasisymmetric compatibility, which formalizes a link between the two maps, and we show it applies to all $\mathfrak{S}_n$-modules.

Abstract: In this article, we study the properties of conjugacies between polynomial basins. For any conjugacy, there is a quasiconformal conjugacy in the same homotopy class minimizing the dilatation. We compute the precise value of the minimal dilatation. The quasiconformal conjugacy minimizing the dilatation is not unique in general. We give a necessary and sufficient condition when the extremal map is unique.

Abstract:It is proved that if two Cr (r ≥ 3) S-unimodal maps without periodic or Cantor attractors are conjugate, and the conjugacy preserves the multipliers of periodic points, then the conjugacy is Cr. This solves a conjecture of Martens and de Melo.

Abstract: Determination of quasi-invariant generalized functions is important for a variety of problems in representation theory, notably character theory and restriction problems. In this note, we review some new and easy-to-use techniques to show vanishing of quasi-invariant generalized functions, developed in the recent work of the authors (Uniqueness of Ginzburg-Rallis models: the Archimedean case, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 363, (2011), 2763-2802). The first two techniques involve geometric notions attached to submanifolds, which we call metrical properness and unipotent $\chi$-incompatibility. The third one is analytic in nature, and it arises from the first occurrence phenomenon in Howe correspondence. We also highlight how these techniques quickly lead to two well-known uniqueness results, on trilinear forms and Whittaker models.
A class of Schwarz qubit maps with diagonal unitary and orthogonal symmetries

Abstract:A class of unital qubit maps displaying diagonal unitary and orthogonal symmetries is analyzed. Such maps already found a lot applications in quantum information theory. We provide a complete characterization of this class of maps showing intricate relation between positivity, operator Schwarz inequality, and complete positivity. Finally, it is shown how to generalize the entire picture beyond unital case (so called generalized Schwarz maps). Interestingly, the first example of Schwarz but not completely positive map found by Choi belongs to our class. As a case study we provide a full characterization of Pauli maps. Our analysis leads to generalization of seminal Fujiwara-Algoet conditions for Pauli quantum channels.

Abstract:Consider a multimodal interval map $f$ of $C^3$ with non-flat critical points. We establish several characterizations of the map $f$ is quasi-symmetrically conjugated to a piecewise affine map in the case $f$ is topologically exact and all of its periodic points are hyperbolic repelling. In particular, we give a negative answer to a question posted by Henk Bruin in \cite{Bru96}.

Abstract:By combining multiple electron coincidence detection with ionization by synchrotron radiation, we have obtained resolved spectra of the OCS(3+) ion created through the double Auger effect. The form of the spectra depends critically on the identity of the atom bearing the initial hole. High and intermediate level electron structure calculations lead to an assignment of the resolved spectrum from ionization via the S 2p hole. From the analysis it appears that the double Auger effect from closed shell molecules favors formation of doublet states over quartet states. Molecular field effects in the double Auger effect are similar to those in the single Auger effect in linear molecules.

Abstract:We consider quasisymmetric reparametrizations of the parameter space of the quadratic family. We prove that the set of quadratic maps which are either regular or Collet-Eckmann with polynomial recurrence of the critical orbit has full Lebesgue measure. (The intent of this work is just to be a rigorous reference for the companion preprint Statistical properties of unimodal maps: smooth families with negative Schwarzian derivative. It is based on the LaTeX file of the paper Statistical properties of unimodal maps: the quadratic family. The proofs are very similar and in many places differ just by change of constants.)

Conjugacy classes of real analytic one-dimensional maps are analytic connected manifolds

Abstract:An important question is to describe topological conjugacy classes of dynamical systems. Here we show that within the space of real analytic one-dimensional maps with critical points of prescribed order, the conjugacy class of a map is a real analytic manifold. This extends results of Avila-Lyubich-de Melo \cite{ALM} for the quasi-quadratic unimodal case and of Clark \cite{C} for the more general unimodal case. Their methods fail in the case where there are several critical points, and for this reason we introduce the new notions of {\em pruned Julia set} of a real analytic map, and associate to a real analytic map an {\em external map} of the circle {\em with discontinuities} and {\em a pruned polynomial-like} complex extension of the real analytic map. Using this we are also able to show that topological conjugacy classes are connected (something which was not even known in the general unimodal setting). Even more, this space is contractible. In a companion paper, further applications of this paper will be given. It will be shown that within any real analytic family of real analytic one-dimensional maps, hyperbolic parameters form an open and dense subset.

Unlinking symmetric quivers

Abstract:We analyse the structure of equivalence classes of symmetric quivers whose generating series are equal. We consider such classes constructed using the basic operation of unlinking, which increases a size of a quiver. The existence and features of such classes do not depend on a particular quiver but follow from the properties of unlinking. We show that such classes include sets of quivers assembled into permutohedra, and all quivers in a given class are determined by one quiver of the largest size, which we call a universal quiver. These findings generalise the previous ones for permutohedra graphs for knots. We illustrate our results with generic examples, as well as specialisations related to the knots-quivers correspondence.

Abstract:Quasisymmetric functions have recently been used in time series analysis as polynomial features that are invariant under, so-called, dynamic time warping. We extend this notion to data indexed by two parameters and thus provide warping invariants for images. We show that two-parameter quasisymmetric functions are complete in a certain sense, and provide a two-parameter quasi-shuffle identity. A compatible coproduct is based on diagonal concatenation of the input data, leading to a (weak) form of Chen's identity.

Abstract:We describe all the self quasisymmetric maps on the ideal boundary of a particular negatively curved solvable Lie group. As applications, we prove a Liouville type theorem, and derive some rigidity properties for quasiisometries of the solvable Lie group.

Abstract:We study quasisymmetric maps, which act on the boundary of the hyperbolic plane, by looking at their action on the Farey triangulation. Our main results identify exactly which quasisymmetric maps correspond to pinched lambda lengths in terms of shearing coordinates and, separately, in terms of (simultaneous) flip distance of the Farey triangulation and its image by the map. These extend and clarify previous results of Penner and Sullivan.

Abstract:Wigner's theorem characterizes isometries of the set of all rank one projections on a Hilbert space. In metric geometry nonexpansive maps and noncontractive maps are well studied generalizations of isometries. We show that under certain conditions Wigner symmetries can be characterized as nonexpansive or noncontractive maps on the set of all projections of rank one. The assumptions required for such characterizations are injectivity or surjectivity and they differ in the finite and the infinite-dimensional case. Motivated by a recently obtained optimal version of Uhlhorn's generalization of Wigner's theorem, we also give a description of nonexpansive maps which satisfy a condition that is much weaker than surjectivity. Such maps do not need to be Wigner symmetries. The optimality of all presented results is shown by counterexamples.
