Abstract:We consider the existence of invariant curves of real analytic reversible mappings which are quasi-periodic in the angle variables. By the normal form theorem, we prove that under some assumptions, the original mapping is changed into its linear part via an analytic convergent transformation, so that invariants curves are obtained. In the iterative process, by solving the modified homological equations, we ensure that the transformed mapping is still reversible. As an application, we investigate the invariant curves of a class of nonlinear resonant oscillators, with the Birkhoff constants of the corresponding Poincar$\acute{e}$ mapping all zeros or not.

Abstract:In this paper, we obtain the invariant curves of quasi-periodic reversible mappings with finite smoothness. Since the reversible property is difficult to maintain in the process of approximating smooth functions by analytical ones, Rüssmann's method in \cite{HR} is invalid. Inspired by the recent work of Li, Qi and Yuan in \cite{LJ}, we turn to regard the reversible mapping as the Poincaré map of a reversible differential equation. By constructing a KAM theorem for a reversible differential equation which is quasi-periodic in time, we obtain the invariant curves of the reversible mapping. Beyond that, we establish some variants of invariant curve theorems for quasi-periodic reversible mappings.

Abstract:This article concerns the Lp Minkowski problem for q-capacity. We consider the case p >= 1 and 1 < q < nin the smooth category by a kind of curvature flow, which converges smoothly to the solution of a Monge-Amp & eacute;re type equation. We show the existence of smooth solution to the problem for p >= n. We also provide a proof for the weak solution to the problem when p >= 1, which has been obtained by Zou and Xiong.

Abstract:We consider the deformations of complex orbifolds with the underlying smooth structures being fixed. As a corollary, we can prove that the deformations of a Calabi-Yau orbifold is unobstructed by using standard arguments. Then we consider the period map for a family of complex Kähler orbifolds. We prove that the period map is holomorphic, horizontal and consistent with our Kodaira-Spencer map.

Abstract:We consider small perturbations of analytic non-twist area preserving mappings, and prove the existence of invariant curves with prescribed frequency by KAM iteration. Generally speaking, the frequency of invariant curve may undergo some drift, if the twist condition is not satisfied. But in this paper, we deal with a degenerate situation where the unperturbed rotation angle function r → ω + r2n+1 is odd order degenerate at r = 0, and prove the existence of invariant curve without any drift in its frequency. Furthermore, we give a more general theorem on the existence of invariant curves with prescribed frequency for non-twist area preserving mappings and discuss the case of degeneracy with various orders.

Abstract:We study a family of one-dimensional quasi-periodically forced maps [Formula: see text], where [Formula: see text] is real, [Formula: see text] is an angle, and [Formula: see text] is an irrational frequency, such that [Formula: see text] is a real piecewise-linear map with respect to [Formula: see text] of certain kind. The family depends on two real parameters, [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text]. For this family, we prove the existence of nonsmooth pitchfork bifurcations. For [Formula: see text] and any [Formula: see text] there is only one continuous invariant curve. For [Formula: see text] there exists a smooth map [Formula: see text] such that: (a) For [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] has two continuous attracting invariant curves and one continuous repelling curve; (b) For [Formula: see text] it has one continuous repelling invariant curve and two semi-continuous (noncontinuous) attracting invariant curves that intersect the unstable one in a zero-Lebesgue measure set of angles; (c) For [Formula: see text] it has one continuous attracting invariant curve. The case [Formula: see text] is a degenerate case that is also discussed in the paper. It is interesting to note that this family is a simplified version of the smooth family [Formula: see text] for which there is numerical evidence of a nonsmooth pitchfork bifurcation. Finally, we also discuss the limit case when [Formula: see text].

The geometry of preperiodic points in families of maps on $\mathbb{P}^N$

Abstract:We study the dynamics of algebraic families of maps on $\mathbb{P}^N$, over the field $\mathbb{C}$ of complex numbers, and the geometry of their preperiodic points. The goal of this note is to formulate a conjectural characterization of the subvarieties of $S \times\mathbb{P}^N$ containing a Zariski-dense set of preperiodic points, where the parameter space $S$ is a quasiprojective complex algebraic variety; the characterization is given in terms of the non-vanishing of a power of the invariant Green current associated to the family of maps. This conjectural characterization is inspired by and generalizes the Relative Manin-Mumford Conjecture for families of abelian varieties, recently proved by Gao and Habegger, and it includes as special cases the Manin-Mumford Conjecture (theorem of Raynaud) and the Dynamical Manin-Mumford Conjecture (posed by Ghioca, Tucker, and Zhang). We provide examples where the equivalence is known to hold, and we show that several recent results can be viewed as special cases. Finally, we give the proof of one implication in the conjectural characterization.

On the existence of periodic invariant curves for analytic families of twist maps and billiards

Abstract:In this paper we prove that in any analytic one-parameter family of twist maps of the annulus, homotopically invariant curves filled with periodic points corresponding to a given rotation number, either exist for all values of the parameters or at most for a discrete subset. Moreover, we show that the set of analytic twist maps having such an invariant curve of a given rotation number is a strict analytic subset of the set of analytic twist maps. The first result extends, in dimension 2, a previous result by Arnaud, Massetti and Sorrentino. We then apply our result to rational caustics of billiards, considering several models such as Birkhoff billiards, outer billiards and symplectic billiards.

Abstract:In this paper we will solve an open problem raised by Manásevich and Mawhin twenty years ago on the structure of the periodic eigenvalues of the vectorial $p$-Laplacian. This is an Euler-Lagrangian equation on the plane or in higher dimensional Euclidean spaces. The main result obtained is that for any exponent $p$ other than $2$, the vectorial $p$-Laplacian on the plane will admit infinitely many different sequences of periodic eigenvalues with a given period. These sequences of eigenvalues are constructed using the notion of scaling momenta we will introduce. The whole proof is based on the complete integrability of the equivalent Hamiltonian system, the tricky reduction to $2$-dimensional dynamical systems, and a number-theoretical distinguishing between different sequences of eigenvalues. Some numerical simulations to the new sequences of eigenvalues and eigenfunctions will be given. Several further conjectures towards to the panorama of the spectral sets will be imposed.

Abstract:In this paper we study quasiconformal curves which are a special case of quasiregular curves. Namely embeddings $\Omega\rightarrow\mathbb{R}^m$ from some domain $\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^n$ to $\mathbb{R}^m$, where $n\leq m$, which belong in a suitable Sobolev class and satisfy a certain distortion inequality for some smooth, closed and non-vanishing $n$-form in $\mathbb{R}^m$. These mappings can be seen as quasiconformal mappings between $\Omega$ and $f(\Omega)$. We prove that a quasiconformal curve always satisfies the analytic definition of quasiconformal mappings and the lower half of the modulus inequality. Moreover, we give a sufficient condition for a quasiconformal curve to satisfy the metric definition of quasiconformal mappings. We also show that a quasiconformal map from $\Omega$ to $f(\Omega)\subset \mathbb{R}^m$ is a quasiconformal $\omega$ curve for some form $\omega$ under suitable assumptions. Finally, we show the same is true when we equip the target space $f(\Omega)$ with its intrinsic metric instead of the Euclidean one.

Abstract:Let M be a closed 1-connected smooth 4-manifolds, and let r be a non-negative integer. We study the problem of finding minimal number of r -periodic points in the smooth homotopy class of a given map . This task is related to determining a topological invariant , defined in Graff and Jezierski (Forum Math 21(3):491–509, 2009), expressed in terms of Lefschetz numbers of iterations and local fixed point indices of iterations. Previously, the invariant was computed for self-maps of some 3-manifolds. In this paper, we compute the invariants for the self-maps of closed 1-connected smooth 4-manifolds with definite intersection forms (i.e., connected sums of complex projective planes). We also present some efficient algorithmic approach to investigate that problem

Abstract:This paper analyzes the geometric quantities that remain unchanged during parallel mapping (i.e., mapping from a reference curved surface to a parallel surface with identical normal direction). The second gradient operator, the second class of integral theorems, the Gauss-curvature-based integral theorems, and the core property of parallel mapping are used to derive a series of parallel mapping invariants or geometrically conserved quantities. These include not only local mapping invariants but also global mapping invariants found to exist both in a curved surface and along curves on the curved surface. The parallel mapping invariants are used to identify important transformations between the reference surface and parallel surfaces. These mapping invariants and transformations have potential applications in geometry, physics, biomechanics, and mechanics in which various dynamic processes occur along or between parallel surfaces.
Invariant graphs and dynamics of a family of continuous piecewise linear planar maps

Abstract:We consider the family of piecewise linear maps $$F_{a,b}(x,y)=\left(|x| - y + a, x - |y| + b\right),$$ where $(a,b)\in \mathbb{R}^2$. This family belongs to a wider one that has deserved some interest in the recent years as it provides a framework for generalized Lozi-type maps. Among our results, we prove that for $a\ge 0$ all the orbits are eventually periodic and moreover that there are at most three different periodic behaviors formed by at most seven points. For $a<0$ we prove that for each $b\in\mathbb{R}$ there exists a compact graph $\Gamma,$ which is invariant under the map $F$, such that for each $(x,y)\in \mathbb{R}^2$ there exists $n\in\mathbb{N}$ (that may depend on $x$) such that $F_{a,b}^n(x,y)\in \Gamma.$ We give explicitly all these invariant graphs and we characterize the dynamics of the map restricted to the corresponding graph for all $(a,b)\in\mathbb{R}^2$ obtaining, among other results, a full characterization of when $F_{a,b}|_{\Gamma}$ has positive or zero entropy.

Abstract:We study periodic, piecewise linear maps on the plane starting with the Mort Brown's map. We show that if the number of pieces is two, there is only a short list of possible periods (this fact can be seen as the crystallographic restriction for this class of maps). Otherwise, without the restriction on the number of pieces, a map can have any period. We show how to construct such maps using binary trees and so called admissible sequences.

A Variational method based on Aubry-Mather theory is used to discover infinitely many non-Birkhoff periodic orbits of fixed rotation number sufficiently close to some irrational number for which the angular invariant circle does not exist.
Existence and Nonexistence of Invariant Curves of Coin Billiards

Abstract:In this paper we consider the coin billiards introduced by M. Bialy. It is a family of maps of the annulus $\mathbb A = \mathbb T \times (0,\pi)$ given by the composition of the classical billiard map on a convex planar table $\Gamma$ with the geodesic flow on the lateral surface of a cylinder (coin) of given height having as bases two copies of $\Gamma$. We prove the following three main theorems: in two different scenarios (when the height of the coin is small, or when the coin is near-circular) there is a family of KAM curves close to, but not accumulating on, the boundary $\partial \mathbb A$; for any non-circular coin, if the height of the coin is sufficiently large, there is a neighbourhood of $\partial \mathbb A$ through which there passes no invariant essential curve; for many noncircular coins, there are Birkhoff zones of instability. These results provide partial answers to questions of Bialy. Finally, we describe the results of some numerical experiments on the elliptical coin billiard.
