Abstract:In this paper, we first prove that any power quasi-symmetry of two metric spaces induces a rough quasi-isometry between their infinite hyperbolic cones. Second, we prove that for a complete metric space $Z$, there exists a point $\omega$ in the Gromov boundary of its infinite hyperbolic cone such that $Z$ can be seen as the Gromov boundary relative to $\omega$ of its infinite hyperbolic cone. Third, we prove that for a visual Gromov hyperbolic metric space $X$ and a Gromov boundary point $\omega$, $X$ is roughly similar to the infinite hyperbolic cone of its Gromov boundary relative to $\omega$. These are the generalizations of Theorem 7.4, Theorem 8.1 and Theorem 8.2 in [3] since the underlying spaces are not assumed to be bounded and the hyperbolic cones are infinite.

Abstract:Dynamical quantum field theories (QFTs), such as those in which spacetimes are equipped with a metric and/or a field in the form of a smooth map to a target manifold, can be formulated axiomatically using the language of $\infty$-categories. According to a geometric version of the cobordism hypothesis, such QFTs collectively assemble themselves into objects in an $\infty$-topos of smooth spaces. We show how this allows one to define and study generalized global symmetries of such QFTs. The symmetries are themselves smooth, so the `higher-form' symmetry groups can be endowed with, e.g., a Lie group structure.

Abstract:In this note we obtain the surjectivity of smooth maps into Euclidean spaces under mild conditions. As application we give a new proof of the Fundamental Theorem of Algebra. We also observe that any $C^1$-map from a compact manifold into Euclidean space with dimension $n\ge2$ has infinitely many critical points.

Abstract:Using a smooth version of the Connes–Thom isomorphism in Grensing’s bivariant K-theory for locally convex algebras, we prove an equivariant version of the Connes–Thom isomorphism in periodic cyclic homology. Abstract:In this paper, we prove metric analogues, in any dimension and in any co-dimension, of the famous Theorem of Mumford on smoothness of normal surfaces and the beautiful Theorem of Ramanujam that gives a topological characterization of $\mathbb{C}^2$ as an algebraic surface. For instance, we prove that a complex analytic set that is log-Lipschitz regular at 0 (i.e., a complex analytic set that has a neighbourhood of the origin which bi-log-Lipschitz homeomorphic to an Euclidean ball) must be smooth at 0. We prove even more, we prove that if a complex analytic set $X$ such that, for each $0<\alpha<1$, $(X,0)$ and $(\mathbb{R}^k,0)$ are bi-$\alpha$-Hölder homeomorphic, then $X$ must be smooth at 0. These results generalize the Lipschitz Regularity Theorem, which says that a Lipschitz regular complex analytic set must be smooth. Global versions of these results are also presented here and, in particular, we obtain a characterization of an affine linear subspace as a pure-dimensional entire complex analytic set.

Abstract:In recent decades, topology has come to play an increasing role in some geometric aspects of Banach space theory. The class of so-called <math>w⁎</math>-locally relatively compact sets was introduced recently by Fonf, Pallares, Troyanski and the author, and were found to be a useful topological tool in the theory of isomorphic smoothness and polyhedrality in Banach spaces. We develop the topological theory of these sets and present some Banach space applications.

Abstract:We prove that two smooth families of 2-connected domains in $\cc$ are smoothly equivalent if they are equivalent under a possibly discontinuous family of biholomorphisms. We construct, for $m \geq 3$, two smooth families of smoothly bounded $m$-connected domains in $\cc$, and for $n\geq2$, two families of strictly pseudoconvex domains in $\cc^n$, that are equivalent under discontinuous families of biholomorphisms but not under any continuous family of biholomorphisms. Finally, we give sufficient conditions for the smooth equivalence of two smooth families of domains.

Abstract:This paper explores the existence and properties of \emph{basic} eigenvalues and eigenfunctions associated with the Riemannian Laplacian on closed, connected Riemannian manifolds featuring an effective isometric action by a compact Lie group. Our primary focus is on investigating the potential existence of homeomorphic yet not diffeomorphic smooth manifolds that can accommodate invariant metrics sharing common basic spectra. We establish the occurrence of such scenarios for specific homotopy spheres and connected sums. Moreover, the developed theory demonstrates that the ring of invariant admissible scalar curvature functions fails to recover the smooth structure in many examples. We show the existence of homotopy spheres with identical rings of invariant scalar curvature functions, irrespective of the underlying smooth structure.

Abstract:We investigate the relationship between smoothness and the relative global dimension. We prove that a smooth ring map $B\to A$ between commutative rings implies the finiteness of the relative global dimension $\operatorname{gldim}(A,B)$. Conversely, we identify a sufficient condition on $B$ such that the finiteness of $\operatorname{gldim}(A,B)$ implies the smoothness of the map $B\to A$.

As is well known, the orbit space of the proper action of a Lie group on a smooth manifold is a subcartesian space.
