Abstract:Allyldialkyltelluronium bromides were treated with phenols in the presence of NaOH at room temperature, readily giving allyl aromatic ethers in excellent yields. This procedure represents an efficient means for synthesis of allyl aromatic ether.

Abstract:Chiral aryl glycines are biologically relevant compounds that received a great deal of attention over the last years. They can be prepared by aminohydroxylation (K. L. Reddy, K. B. Sharpless J. Am. Chem. Soc. 1998, 120, 1207-1217), amination of enolates (D. A. Evans, S. G. Nelson J. Am. Chem. Soc. 1997, 119, 6452-6453) or reductive amination (R. Kadyrov, T. H. Riermeier, U. Dingerdissen, V. Tararov, A. Börner J. Org. Chem. 2003, 68, 4067-4070) but in some cases low regioselectivity, high catalyst loading or poor reactivity is observed. The authors applied their recently developed TangPhos ligand (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2002, 41, 1612-1614) to the enantioselective hydrogenation of a variety of α-imino esters.

Abstract:This study describes an unprecedented chromium-catalyzed asymmetric Reformatsky reaction, enabling the synthesis of chiral β-hydroxy carbonyl compounds from α-chlorinated or α-brominated esters and amides. By employing a chiral chromium/diarylamine bis(oxazoline) catalyst, we achieved relatively broad functional group tolerance. Distinct from known reports, the protocol operates under both classical and photoredox conditions, facilitated by the in-situ formation of a nucleophilic chiral chromium intermediate through a radical-polar crossover mechanism. Preliminary mechanistic insights, supported by DFT calculations, identify the nucleophilic aldehyde addition as the key stereo-determining step. This approach not only overcomes the limitations of existing Reformatsky reactions but also provides a versatile strategy for accessing complex chiral molecules.

Abstract:The Reformatsky reagent derived from ethyl bromoacetate circumvents the challenge associated with the direct regio- and enantioselective iridium-catalyzed allylic alkylation with an unstabilized aliphatic ester enolate. Notably, this work represents the first example of using a Reformatsky reagent in a metal-allyl reaction, which permits the direct construction of enantioenriched β-stereogenic homoallylic esters without preactivation of the pronucleophile or post-reaction modification of the product (e.g., thermal decarboxylation of a 1,3-dicarbonyl). Moreover, the process allows the coupling of a broad range of sterically and electronically diverse electrophiles bearing aryl, heteroaryl and alkenyl derivatives, including the significantly more challenging alkyl-substituted allylic carbonates. The versatility of the ester product is exemplified by a series of functional group manipulations and the development of a concise and efficient enantioselective total synthesis of the natural product, (+)-descurainolide A. Finally, mechanistic studies indicate that the zinc enolate behaves as a soft nucleophile that undergoes outer-sphere alkylation.

Abstract:Arylethylamines are crucial elements in pharmaceutical molecules, making methods for their synthesis highly significant. The Truce-Smiles rearrangement is a well-developed strategy to synthesize arylethylamine motifs via aryl migration. However, most examples require amide substrates to activate the alkene to attack by a radical precursor. This strategy both limits the product scope to amide containing compounds as well as necessitating the incorporation of specific functional groups arising from the initial radical addition. In this work, we overcome these limitations, delivering a hydrogen-atom-transfer from a cobalt catalyst to unactivated alkenes to yield -arylethylamines with simple alkyl chains. DFT studies reveal that increasing the steric hindrance in at least one of the ortho positions on the migrating aromatic group promotes ipso over ortho addition, selectivity that contrasts with previous methods.

Abstract:An efficient method for asymmetric synthesis of acyclic α-tertiary amine derivatives has been achieved through enantioselective aminations of α-branched ynones with azodicarboxylates enabled by chiral phosphoric acid catalysis. Moreover, kinetic resolution of racemic starting material was realized under these conditions, which gave access to valuable enantioenriched α-substituted ketones. A wide array of α-aryl and alkyl-substitutions, and the substituted alkynyl groups were well compatible with this method, producing both the amination products and the recovered ketones with good to high enantioselectivities.This article is protected by copyright. Abstract:A class of o-(trimethylsilyl)aryl fluorosulfates was synthesized by a concise method and successfully used as aryne precursors for the first time. Abstract:An electrochemical Reformatsky‐type reaction of bromodifluoroamides with aldehydes/ketones via electron reductive umpolung is reported, leading to the generation of a series of β‐hydroxy‐α,α‐difluoro amides in moderate to good yields. This protocol tolerated a variety of commercially available alkyl ketone, alkyl and aromatic aldehydes, featuring broad substrate scope and good functional group tolerance under transition metal‐free conditions without metal reduction reagents. Control experiment indicated that the reaction proceeded via an electron reductive umpolung pathway.
