Abstract:Simple preparation of aryl telluroesters from reaction of tellurium powder and aryl Grignard reagents then acylation with acyl chlorides. Addition of telluroesters to arylpropiolates gave (2Z)-beta-aryltelluro-alpha, beta-unsaturated esters with high stereoselectivity.

Abstract:Acetylenic stannanes (1) react with Cp2Zr(H)Cl (Cp=η5-C5H5) giving (Z)-α-stannylvinylzirconium complexes (2), which are trapped with sulfinyl chlorides (3) in THF at room temperature to afford (Z)-α-stannyl-1-alkenyl sulfoxides (4). The yields are 63–81%. The coupling of 4h with diphenyliodonium chloride in the presence of Pd(PPh3)4 and CuI afford (E)-α-phenyl unsaturated sulfoxide 5 in 75% yield.

Abstract:The authors have recently disclosed conditions for Ullmann couplings of aryl halides with active methylene compounds. In this report they describe the asymmetric variant between aryl iodides and β -keto esters by using CuI and trans-4-hydroxy-l-proline. The reaction temperatures are the lowest reported for Ullmann-type couplings. Many substituents on the aryl ring are tolerated, particularly electron-donating ones, which provide the highest yields and ee values. The products are pharmaceutically desirable since they contain α-aryl all-carbon quaternary centers. Conversion into oxindoles is also attainable in two steps, though the first step is low-converting.

Abstract:An operationally simple and inexpensive catalyst system was developed for the cross coupling of aryl iodides and bromides with ethyl acetoacetate by using CuI as catalyst and N-methyl glycine as ligand. The reaction represents a novel Cu-catalyzed C-C cross coupling reaction. This procedure is applicable to the preparation of pharmaceutically important alpha-arylalkanoic acids.

Abstract:Reaction of alkylphenylacetylenes with tellurium(IV) tetrachloride in carbon tetrachloride gives Z-(2-chlorovinyl)tellurium (IV) trichloride derivatives in over 75% yield, which afford the corresponding Z-chloroiodoalkenes or Z-bromochloroalkenes in good yields by halogenodetelluration with iodine in acetonitrile or N-bromosuccinimide in carbon tetrachloride.

Abstract:A highly stereoselective Pictet–Spengler reaction of d-tryptophan methyl ester hydrochloride 1-HCl with various aldehydes via a CIAT (crystallization-induced asymmetric transformation) process is described. It was revealed that the CIAT process should be performed in a mixed solvent of nitromethane and toluene, and a fine tuning of the ratio of nitromethane and toluene for each epimer mixture of 2-HCl was necessary in order to get as high yields and stereoselectivities as possible. Enantiomerically pure cis (or trans) 1,3-disubstituted tetrahydro-β-carbolines 2a–2v were obtained by recrystallization or flash chromatography after neutralization of the corresponding hydrochloride salts cis-2-HCl or trans-2-HCl.

Abstract:A convenient method for synthesizing of β‐trifluoromethyl vinyl ethers and diethers through the base-mediated C-O coupling of (E)-1,2-dichloro-3,3,3-trifluoroprop-1-ene and phenols has been developed. Remarkably, the present process shows perfect regioselective and stereoselective yield of the Z/E isomers for β‐trifluoromethyl vinyl ethers with a high efficiency. Additionally, β‐trifluoromethyl vinyl diethers with identical/ diverse phenoxy groups were also obtained and the regulation of the product configuration was achieved. These reactions feature transition-metal-free conditions, wide substrate scope, and atom economic characters.

Abstract:The reaction of 1,2-dihydropyranyl acetates with dimethylzinc, diethylzinc and diphenylzinc in the presence of CF3COOH gave the corresponding alky and aryl C-pyranosides via a Ferrier rearrangement in excellent yields. Use of the organozinc species, CF3CO2ZnPh, reacted with high stereoselectivity to give the phenyl C-glycosides. Arylzinc chlorides could also be successfully applied to this reaction in the presence of BF3·OEt2.
